Going to start learning how to LD again for the 3rd time I still lack motivation.

Ok so this is my 3rd time I'm going to try and learn lucid dreaming again I haven't had a fully conscious LD even when I was doing reality checks and dream journaling for about 6 months, I'm also trying to learn guitar at the moment and I plan to use LDs to learn guitar faster but I'm the kind of person who lacks motivation for everything I really want to learn to do this properly and also learn guitar at the same time but I will probably get tired of doing it like I always do, when I was doing it for 6 months and I hardly made any progress I just gave up and same the 2nd time but I want this time to be different, when I try MILD I will often find it hard to fall asleep or I will forget to do it and sometimes I cant be arsed to dream journal and reality checks never really worked for me, I also find it hard to stick to a sleeping routine, so any advice to keep me motivated to actually do something with my life for once?

Sometimes I have motivational issues as well. For me, picking an intense project relating to my ultimate goal is a great way to keep up my motivation, because I become too immersed in the project to give it up. For instance, to keep myself motivated for lucid dreaming right now, I am following Sivason's old Dream Yoga class in the DreamViews Academy. It's also a good idea to read through other members' DJs for inspiration. Sometimes hearing about the awesome dreams of another person is an excellent way to become more excited about your own dreams. Even more so if you engage in dream-related discussions throughout the day.

If its too difficult for you to get back to sleep after MILD, then perhaps it would be best to search for a less intrusive technique. DEILD may be a good approach, because you don't have to wake up so completely in order to perform it. If that doesn't appeal to you, there are plenty of other techniques that do not involve waking up in the middle of the night.

Reality checks are useful to perform even if they never directly help you become lucid. The act of doing RCs in real life keeps your mind more aware, leading to a greater possibility of achieving the awareness required for lucidity. Looking into KingYoshi's All Day Awareness technique may prove to be of some use to you in this regard, as it seems that part of your problem may be an under-developed awareness.

As for your sleep schedule, that's just something you have to make yourself adhere to. You can't dream if you don't sleep. LDing can take a lot of focus and dedication, so if you're in it for the long haul then you might find yourself having to change certain aspects of your life. IE, giving up on all-nighters and spending more time with a normal sleep routine. Picking a certain time to go to bed each night and allowing yourself 6-8 hours of sleep is not as difficult as it may seem, once you get used to it.

Make a list of all things you would like to do in an LD, be Spiderman, punch someone you hate in the face, ... Make it as long as possible and soon you will feel a strong desire to LD and actually have the power to do these things.

I'm kind of in the same boat to be honest, this is like my 4th day trying to LD and already I'm being a lazy ass - I did like 3 RCs today and ADA for a minute or two. On the first day I had so much motivation, I browsed DV all day long and did awareness/RCs but then it kinda died down after that. If I can't make myself do these things I'll have to try WILD, seems like a more direct approach to LDing so it might increase my motivation.

Wait, you're trying to LD for just 4 days and you've already lost motivation!?

What if you break down the learning process a bit and focus on developing a set of habits progressively over time? This is also my 2nd time getting back into lucid dreaming, though the problem for me was not a lack of motivation, but a problem with doing too many things at once. Looking back at the first time I tried lucid dreaming, I remember I wanted to try out every possible technique that was out there since day one that will bring me closer to my goal faster. The issue was that I never actually sustained practice for more than a week or two at best because my mind will soon resist the attempt at change and laziness will kick in.

Now that I look at it from a fresh knew perspective I know better than to commit the same mistake twice. So, now I decided I should ease in the lucid dreaming practice a step at a time. Let the mind get used to the idea behind lucid dreaming slowly. Soon I will find myself closer to my goal than ever before.

Also, if what you did in the past didn't work for you then by all means change the practice method and use another one. Not all methods click for everybody, that also took me some time to learn.

Yeah lol, that always happens with me - I'm extremely excited about and have extreme motivation for something the first day and I can't sleep because of it, but then it dies down pretty quickly.

Have you ever had an LD in the past?

I see that there are more people with lack of motivation. My story is a little different. I had a Lucid Dream many times (~8) in the past. I tried to be in shape, but every time I was losing the motivation, stopping the training and journal. After a few months I tried to come back, had a Lucid Dream, lost motivation, rinse and repeat.

Now I am back with new portion of power. Why? Because I have just reminded to myself how does it feel to be in a Lucid Dream. And Legacy, give yourself some time. After the very first Lucid Dream try to remember as much as possible. Write it down and read it every time You feel that You're lacking of motivation. Believe me, You would feel amazing and motivation won't be a problem.

Second big thing is that You cannot feel that You are under pressure. Just live Your life, be yourself and add something to Your life what would remind You about Lucid Dreams. I had a reminder on my phone (Reality Check every 1 hour). Now I have a tattoo (Dream Catcher) on my right wrist and a medallion (with 'Dream' word) on my left. I just live my life. You should definitely live Your way without any pressure. Just remember about something small, something special for Reality Checks.

You forgot about Dream Journal entry? No worries. Forgot about Reality Checks? No worries. Just try to improve Yourself next day. Remember that Lucid Dream is for You and not vice versa ;)

After the night without a Lucid Dream think to Yourself: "Ok dream, I haven't catched You this night. But next night You will be mine". Smile, wake up and start Your day. Good attitude man! :)

If you lack motivation i may present you a small exercise

1. Get yourself a paper, pen or pencil

2. Think about most awesome & exciting things you want to do :)
- During exercise fill every idea of yours with strong emotions of happiness and high desires to do it

3. Write down everything your mind comes up with on paper

3.5. Take a short break so you can relax your mind a little

4. After short break read your list and after doing so tell yourself mindfully this: ,,With Lucid Dreaming I'il Be Able To Do All These Cool Things. Therefore i'il be practicing hard till i'il be master at controlling my dreams''

5. Your Motivation probably received a slight or atleast a tiny boost

I think.. I was really exausted at school, and put my head down on my desk, and apparenly went straight into REM sleep. I had an FA and was still in the classroom, but realized the walls looked distorted and I was sitting at the wrong desk, which made me think it was a dream. I already knew what lucid dreams were then so I got really excited and woke up for real :/ Anyway, I'm gonna follow MisakaMikoto's advice and write down all the things I want to do in an LD and read it over once in a while.

It may sound depressing but I think you won't get the needed amount of motivation until you actually experience an LD again, better hope for one soon.

Well you shouldn't give him bad idea about motivation
But i agree, achieving lucid dream boosts slightly motivation

You should still remember that Motivation is very personal and very unique part in each of us :)
Everyone's have their own ways to build up motivations and their reasons or causes of losing it

Well, no need to hope for one! I just had one! It wasn't great as the dream wasn't vivid and faded away fairly quickly after I got lucid, and I also drew a blank when I thought about what I wanted to do... But it still was awesome! And I actually forgot I even had one until a few minutes after waking up. Now I guess I should make a list of things I want to do, and read the stabilization tutorial again. At least I have motivation now :P

Well that is suprising! xD

You'll find that when you have a strong reason or will to Lucid Dream and you really want to accomplish something in it- it will come much easier. Find that reason man and itll make things ALOT easier. On top of that if you have a strong intent to LD just before bed it will really increase your chances for an LD, even if you havent been doing any techniques. Im what they call the lazy type. I dont do techniques- you dont need to. The only day work I put into Lucid Dreaming is Self Awareness- its really easy. Ive gotten alot of mine just from having good intention right before bed. ALOT of people on DV make Lucid Dreaming sound like its hard, but its not you just have to believe in yourself- you'd be really suprised how far that gets you. But if you do want something to go off try out the WBTB method, it requires literally little to no practice at all and it delievers extremely fast. But before you start on that find that reason of WHY you want to Lucid Dream and the motivation will come on its own

Persistence also brings along its own rewards, so dont give up man, you'll get an LD soon. But hey for some more advice- look through these forums on DV and the more time you check them out, the more you'll learn and the more you occupy your brain with Lucid Dreaming related stuff which greatly increases your chances of an LD at night.

I think the biggest thing here is finding what works for you. You don't have to follow all the guides bit by bit but rather take the information and apply it and experiment. For me the nose plug reality check is all I needed to get lucid. With past experiences it seems the waking up after a few hours of sleep then going back to sleep is the key time for me. So just alternate techniques and see what works for you, use that as motivation. Know that there are many techniques and there's bound to be a few that work really well with you so keep exploring those possibilities! Also try not getting too worked over lucid dreaming, try to incorporate it into your activities not make it the ONE activity. You don't need to religiously practice to have an LD although it helps to practice. In fact I just had a really vivid controllable LD this morning without any intention. Try and find a balance and good luck!
