What things should I be aware of during ADA/RCing?

Hey guys, I'm not sure if I'm on the right track in terms of being aware throughout the day. I try to do RCs a lot, for example, but I'm not sure what to question during them - I mean, I can say, the gravity feels normal, I can't get my finger to go through the palm of my hand, I can't breathe with a pinched nose, my vision looks clear and not fuzzy, I can feel all my limbs and clothes on my body, I can feel my muscles moving, my lungs filling with air, etc. But this gets repetitive quickly, even if I do 5 RCs, after that I feel sort of stupid just doing these things, and I stop actually questioning them, and quickly decide I'm in waking life.

It's kind of the same thing when doing ADA, I can try to be always aware of my breathing for example but then I feel like I should try to be aware of something else too, but, well, I don't know what. I can smell the air, but that gets repetitive. I can look at trees as I'm walking, but there's nothing special about them. In general, should I focus on quantitity (lots of finger-through-palm and nose-clamp RCs, always being aware of breathing for ADA) or quality (try to do longer and more extensive RCs, try to be aware of lots of things at once using ADA)?

Those reality checks & All Day Awareness sessions purpose is building a mindfull habit of questioning reality and testing it.
During Reality Checks you should be mindful and try to atleast a little unsure whether your dreaming or not.
Because if you do reality checks while not beliving at all that they might work it could affect their performance in dreams.

It could result in you trying during dream to look for explanation why reality check worked.
Example: You managed to breathe with nose plugged, you might tell yourself that you just managed to do it because your hands plugged nose incorrectly.

If you were to manage to do reality check in dream and your still doubtful whether it's dream or not you can try to do impossible irl reality checks, like finger-through-palm one :cheeky:

Also: You should try to be aware of things that are most probatle to fail to look reality alike.

I understand that I can't just assume I'm in a waking state, as otherwise I would think that in the dream when I do an RC and not get lucid as a result. But for example with ADA should I only focus on gravity? Only on feeling my clothes? Or try to do lots of things at once?

You can choose whichever you prefer:
- Do Overhelming ADA With All Five Senses
- Do Choosen Object ADA (Feeling Of Clothes, Gravity, etc.)
- Untested Way Which I Planned Myself To Do If I Were To Resume ADA: One object per time (Aka: All Five Senses yet your focusing your efforts on one object at time. Let's say your playing a game: Your Focusing ADA only on Monitor, walking down street: Your Focusing ADA only on weight of your legs and the effort you need for moving them. This was probably would take a lot of more to turn into habit aswell, i don't suggest it.)

Ah OK, I think I might do this instead - it seems easier to keep track of only one object, but should be enough to get me lucid. Thanks for your help.

Also, about RCs - when I do, for example, the finger-through-palm one, and it works (finger collides with hand), then should I say a mantra (I.E. "Next time I'm dreaming, I'll become lucid.") or do a few other RCs first to make sure I'm not sleeping and then say the mantra? I have a tendency to think that I'm not dreaming after every RC that works, which I think could transfer into dreams, and that's bad.

You don't need to do few RCs in waking life at once every x minutes. Once is fine, but if you want you can do more.
Thought in Dream World you should do lots of them if you spot something odd or weird.
Example Situation:
1. Your walking down the street in regular dream
2. You spotted a dragon that flew over you
3. Thanks to awareness training you noticed that it is impossible for dragons to exist
4. Your starting to doubt whether your in real life
5. You've attempted nose pinch rc and you were unable to breathe
6. Still thought the previous rc proved that your awake the sight of dragon still makes you to think that it's dream
7. You decided to do finger-through-palm RC and bam finger flew throught palm
8. You are lucid.

DILDs are mostly about awareness
Reality Checks are used by usually to confirm whether we are dreaming or not after we spot something weird or impossible during dream.
As KingYoshi said most of lucid dreams are induced by awareness rest might be reality checks.

Mantra is optional if you want to do it then do it
if you belive that it might be userful.

Hmm yes, the one lucid dream I had I already pretty much knew I was dreaming from awareness and only did the RCs to make sure. I guess awareness is what I should focus more on then.

i posted this in another thread but i will add it to answer your question here as well! to quote myself,

Part of it is being vigilant and questioning weird stuff you see in your every day life." For example, your riding passenger in a car down a highway near the coast, you look off to the side of the road and see a bilboard with a seafood advertisement and there is a giant crab on top of the bill board. obviously the logical side of your brain will tell you the crab is fake, but ignore that. notice it, notice that it is not normal, its weird, it out of place, ect. and assume you are in a dream, i mean where else do you see odd giant crabs? question your reality, get a sense of everything else around you, and then do a RC. basically, you question anything that seems very weird, or out of place. convince yourself you actually are dreaming, and your job is to PROVE it with your RC. the reality check may not even be used in the actual dream. in my last lucid, I saw a flying picture, determined it was way out of place, and knew i was dreaming. maybe you dont want to be constantly aware all day, but train yourself to recognize weird things when you come across them and question them until your sure you are dreaming or awake, after all, dreams feel just as real as reality, why not check? hope that helps!"

If you want to practice reacting by doing RC or questioning reality when seeing something weird you can do it many ways:
- Visualization
- Daydreaming
- Imagining that you just saw something weird
- Mantra (Saying mindfully stuff like: Whenever i see something odd i'il remember to do or know that i have to reality check etc.)
