Only becoming lucid in very late morning

Usually if I have a LD (or am at least self-aware enough to consider the possibility that I might be dreaming), it’s always very late in the morning -- mostly after about 8 hours sleep or in the final hour or so before waking up for the day. I assumed you could have up to 10 or more dreams per night -- so it seems like there’s a lot of missed opportunity to become lucid in these earlier dreams.

I could be wrong but maybe this is the norm, and lucidity is just more difficult earlier in the night. Would anyone have any ideas on why this might be the case? Thanks. :)

This is more likely the norm than anything else. In the late morning your REM cycles are longer leading to longer and more vivid dreams. If you ever hear WILDers talking about how you shouldn't WILD at night because it's harder, it's for the same reason. Also, in the late morning, your conscious mind is rested from the sleep you already have had, and is more awake to question and become aware of the dream world.

Although most of my LDs happen at 5 or 6 in the morning, I have had some that I awoke from as early as about 1:30, given a 10:00pm bedtime.

Thanks, Jade. It does make sense actually.

The way I’ve mostly become lucid was by noticing some kind of oddity, and doing a RC, but this only tends to happen if both the dream is vivid enough, and I am already self-aware enough to notice it happen. I’ve only ever had 1 LD which was early in the night but apart from these early REM dreams being difficult to recall, I don’t tend to question anything in them. So I suppose it does have a lot to do with the fact that your mind becomes more active the longer you sleep. It also makes me wonder how some people can be lucid in every dream!

you are correct, optimal time for this is morning after most of your rest has happened, if I focused really hard. And I purposely waited till morning and got everything prepared. And I have been doing my life correct with diet excercise etc. Then I get the right time for it in the morning I can have up to 7 different times or more where I just keep leaving my body and, dream after dream. right through to late morning doing that hours. I don't do that much these days, because my real life has such pressing issues that I don't really have the luxury of focusing it to that extent. But most of my experimenting with stuff happened that way. At this time I just mostly let the dreams and Lucids come to me by chance, and it's like its integrated into me now like these dreams don't have to be induced they are part of my dream cycle. But I can definitely increase them by focusing on mornings that way. But mostly I have to be awake early, work, and other stuff. Probaly everyone should set aside a day to try this. I prefer saturday mornings, when I don't have a day of work ahead. :)

I agree. Just about all of my LD’s were after about 7 or 8 hours sleep. Mostly on weekends and usually if I can sleep longer. So yes it’s probably best to focus on these last few hours for LD’ing -- as it is indeed more effective. Also, the length of the REM stages in the morning are usually a lot longer, and with very short breaks in between -- which probably makes up for the brevity of those earlier dreams anyway. ;)

Perfectly normal but with practice you can attain more awareness earlier in the cycle.

As Runeword said, it's normal but you can have LD during the whole night when dreaming. Just practice.
