Motivation problems!

Alright, I have had a couple cool and rewarding lucid dreams lately, but for some reason I cannot seem to catch that "excitement" anymore.
I know the great potentials of lucid dreaming, and I can sometimes feel a short excitement when I go like "holy crap, I can do this in a lucid dream and that would be great!", but I cannot keep that excitement.
I just go to bed as usual and don't really care about dream recall or anything, and if I have a lucid dream, cool, but it's not something I seem to aim for anymore.
Why?
I know the infinite potentials of lucid dreams and I know I feel awesome in them when I actually experience them, but I guess they feel "too far away" while I am awake.
Is there some way to get back that constant excitement again?

I experience the same problem right now. I don't know how this is even possible. Maybe it's due to psychical tolerance or something like that? I can only think of keep up inventing the new ways to look at lucid dreaming again again but I don't know. Haven't figured this yet. :(

Yeah, it's like you are cognitively aware that you can indeed do anything you want in a dream, and you understand that it would feel fantastic when you are in a dream like that, but... the excitement isn't really there.
It's like "yeah, I know that this dream would be awesome" but it doesn't trigger any curiosity or any strong will to try and get that dream.

I guess we would have to decide to stick to it - I have noticed that sometimes I can become excited again if I practice dream recall etc for a couple days.

Do you guys have any goals you really want to achive in your dreams?? I mean a goal that would reward you both in your dream as well as in reality if it would be reached.

Progress is exciting, so ye maybe go back to the top of my achievement in lucid dreaming and develop it more further.

Yeah, I actually went so far that I asked the staff at my university if I could do some kind of dissertation study similar to what Stephen LaBerge did, but I sort of knew from the beginning that I would not be allowed to do that, since I read Engineering Physics. :cheeky:
Too bad, because even though I am still almost five years away from that, it would still be a cool thing to look forward to, and it would no doubt be a great motivation booster.

Oh well, guess I can always pretend that I have some sort of mission to prove to myself that I can improve my lucid dreaming frequency by using MILD every night etc.

I dont know, you tell me what skill or practice you would like to make some progress in?:) One idea I have in mind, could be to develop ones kindness and caring for others. Maybe that doesn't sound to exciting for most people I dont know really. But If one practice lucid dreaming and becomes lucid, look for anyone to compliment or help, or just express kindness and love for any DC you see. Then instead of waking up all tired or maybe unexcited for another workday. One could wake up with a warmth feeling of love in their heart, filled with compassion for everyone. And maybe do more kind acts than usual, in our waking lifes as well. Sounds like a pretty good start of the day if you ask me.^^ But anyhow, what would you like to be better at?:)

i find talking to dream characters really interesting. its like they have a mind of their own. may be you could read robert waggoner's book " lucid dreaming gate way to inner self " for inspiration, it have really cool experiments to try.

^^ that's a really interesting book with some good ideas to do in your lucid dreams, for me I stay motivated by setting goals for each lucid every time I get lucid I remember what I had planned and go for it. For example one of my last goals was to summon a Lamborghini jump inside, Rev it up and race around my local area Haha it was amazing sounded real and felt real as it could get, each time I do one goal I set another and look forward to it, another cool one was jumping off a really high sky scraper and just pulling up before hitting the ground, there's so much things that you can't experience in real life so why not do it your dream :D I've done a few things from Robert Waggoner's gateway to innerself book aswell with very very interesting results it's worth a read.

I too have motivation problems. I stopped the whole lucid thing for a while over the summer, but seriously once you start seeing results you will get into it like me! This entire week I've had 0 dreams that I can remember but last night I had my first lucid in a long time and I'm glad! I was worried that not remembering my dreams would be a detriment.

I guess we all have our ups and downs in motivation, and this is specially true if there's anything in your personal life getting in the way, like keeping you up at night and so on. And while I find the advice of having a goal very interesting, it's quite hard for me to set one, and when I decide for one, I find I don't remember about it in my lucids... I am probably not putting enough effort into it :S

Anyway, planning to try WILD starting Oct 5th, maybe that will be better as it is a more "direct" way to lucidity compared to DILD.

I had maybe 10 or so years ago when I was really trying and had a lot of time to research and sleep. Now I feel as if I can't really get into the same mindset I had when I first achieved them. They are still so elusive but that novel sense of wonder and discovery at having a lucid dream and it is hard to recapture. Some say you can have lucid dreams when you least expect them and that not trying actually works in that regard. That doesn't seem to be working in my case I have found. I suppose actively attempting techniques and keeping it on my mind is one way to regain the consistency with lucid dreams. Motivation is one of those thing as with anything is a fleeting thing when you don't succeed but it is a really awesome feeling when it pulls through and motivation skyrockets.

LD is really boring and pointless for me now. I don't know why i try to get lucid while I don't care about them! I never feel excited like before and it's like a blah blah blah stuff. I hope I change my mindset soon. Maybe I am too depressed that even LD is not funny for me.

You are not stupid! You are just very clever to find out LD alone can not bring us happiness.

Well, it's not that I'm not happy, maybe LD is just not required for my happiness.. It seems like it would be really awesome though so I want to try.

Make sure you practice lucid dreaming the right way.
In my opinion, lucid dreaming is all about awareness and critical thinking - so try to make it a habit to regularly ask yourself if you might be dreaming, and really take your time to check this.
I have had dreams where I have "assumed" I was awake, because everything felt so "realistic" - I mean super-realistic, it was almost like actually being awake.
So if you don't feel absolutely 100% sure, you should always double-check your surroundings thoroughly, and preferably do it just to make sure even if you "know" you are awake.
This habit will inevitably start coming up in your dreams as well if you keep practicing it.
