Accidental Almost-MILD? Should i begin to practice it?

Hi Guys,

Today i had nearly-successful yet still accidental mild. I woke up somewhere around 8:15 i've remembered to do reality check at that time of morning since my plan was to start doing reality checks every 15 - 20 minutes during the day. I recalled that it was my plan, did one or two reality checks then fell asleep. I had regular non-lucid dream for few minutes and then suddenly that thing hit me. You know the feeling when you forgot about something and somehow brain itself reminds you that etc. I suddenly remembered that i forgot or should do reality checks then decided to do few reality tests but unfortunely hands were fine, enviornment around was fine and noseplug check worked yet i though it was due to some wound that i had days ago that i were able to breathe :yeah

So anyways guys since this kind of accidental mild happend i think i might have more luck with MILD than with WILD and DILDs.
Was that a legit MILD-Like Expierence and should i give a try to MILD?

This sounds to me like a regular DILD. If you were already in a non-lucid dream and then remembered to do a RC (regardless if it failed or not) you almost completed a DILD. A MILD is a dream visualization method in which you preconcieve the dream you want before going to bed.

It sounds to me like you have a solid foundation for RC's and almost had a lucid! Keep at it and work on some other RCs such as checking the time, thinking backwards how you got there, pressing your tongue through your closed teeth. etc. and you will probably have many DILDs :)

Actually, if you are preconceiving a dream you want to have that is called dream incubation. MILD is simply when you repeat a phrase over and over that you will hopefully carry over to and remember in the dream to induce a lucid dream. Dream incubation is similar because you repeat to yourself what dream you want to have, but the main difference is incubated dreams don't have to be lucid dreams. I can explain better by example.

Dream incubation:
You want to dream about riding your bike so you tell yourself that you will dream about riding your bike and you visualize how the dream will look and where you will ride your bike at and how it will feel, etc. That night you have a non-lucid dream about riding your bike.

MILD:
You want to have a lucid dream so before you go to bed you tell yourself over and over and over one phrase. This phrase could be, "I will have a lucid dream" or "Tonight I will know I'm dreaming" or "This is a dream." That night you remember your phrase and your intentions to become lucid and you have a lucid dream.


Misaka, I definitely recommend MILD, especially if you are still fairly new to actively seeking lucid dreams. I've had great success with MILD.
Also, it sounds like your issue is that your reality check failed. I have had this happen a few times. What I realized is that when I did my RCs in WL I did them quickly and without much attention. I had to start putting more focus on what the reality check was and what the results could be and what they mean. For example, you said you pinched your nose and could still breath which should have told you that you were dreaming but you rationalized it in your dream as being due to an injury. I did the same thing the other night thinking it was my allergies. (Don't ask how that makes sense!!!) So now, when I do my reality checks I say, "Am I dreaming?" and I really make myself question it. Then I do the reality check and say to myself (using nose pinch as example), "When I pinch my nose I can't breath which means I'm awake. If I can breath it means I'm asleep no matter what!" I haven't had a chance to see if this will change anything, but I think it will. I think setting clear intentions and strict rules for RCs will increase the success rate! Hope this helps!
