I had my first lucid dream at a very young age, before I knew what it is and that you can practice it.

16-17 days, I just wrote in my dream journal every morning and did lots of reality checks. I also read a lot about lucid dreaming and sleep-related stuff. After that first lucid, I joined a SSILD trial on the DV forums which I got 2 lucids from. SSILD is my favourite technique so far, I'm not good with the harder stuff like WILD or FILD. It's nearly been 2 months for me and I've had 4 lucids in total. Totally worth joining that trial, it gave me more motivation by having somewhere to report my experiences to, as well as having a dedicated focus on a particular technique. That trial is still ongoing and is open to new people joining if you're interested.

In terms of it getting easier to get lucid.. I still don't 'know' how to do it, so it just feels as challenging as always. But each success I have makes it seem like I'm getting closer to a switch or something, and that one day I'll just be able to make it happen.
I had mine after 3 days, once I started reading Dr. Stephen LA Berge's book Exploring the World of Lucid Dreaming. I should get royalties I recommend it so much :) but it really is the best beginner's book. It covers the basics of the best techniques. But I was maybe faster than most...perhaps because I had maybe 3 lucids on my own, but years apart (semi lucid and not very good or controlled... a little better than dreams). But let me be honest that even with the book it felt like "luck" for me because I didn't know what really triggered it. I then averaged one every week or two for 3 or 4 years. I am just now figuring out how to improve it to where I want to be...nightly or every other night. It is a journey...everyone different but everyone can learn it over time. And the journey has been fun.
About 2 weeks after having my first spontaneous one.
It only took me a few days to a week, I guess because I was really excited. I did it through DEILD after I woke up from a dream. I stayed still and repeated the words "lucid dreaming" over and over. I didn't want to disrupt the process so I didn't think too much. In seconds, I was in a dream fully lucid from the beginning. It only lasted a few minutes, but I was so happy because it felt so real. Anyways, that was back in late July earlier this year. I've only had about 3-5 LDs from then until now only because I haven't been trying lately, but I recently started up again. I'm hoping to have one soon.
Dream test induced after 2 months of testing I had a transparent finger :), I used dream stabilization in this dream because of the hand test, the dream lasted 3 min I had
high degree of control, but there were dream hecklers in the dream :(
One month latter 35 seconds (trigger impossible event, followed by out of place location)
another month latter 25 seconds (trigger was impossible event)
One month latter (trigger improper lighting) stabilized lost the dreamscape got it back by rubbing hands until it returned, 10-15 minutes in all. Totally in control flew
was bullet proof (no dream hecklers but the dream police wanted me to go with them, I didn't go) able to summon people / objects
then one week latter 2 lucid dreams
one lasting 7 seconds (trigger saw a non-living pet)
the next day about 10+minutes (trigger object re-sized by impossible proportions) lost the dreamscape but was able to get a new one by rubbing my hands together in the void
and thinking don't care as long as its a dreamscape, suddenly I was in Mesh Kevlar Armor world during an evacuation as it was under attack (should have picked a dreamscape)
latter lost lucidity
last week no lucid dreams
but this morning 2 of them
the first (trigger was seeing a dead relative) was about 8-10 minutes good control no dream hecklers or dream police but a very tenacious white dream bulldog attacked me
quite a feat as I was about 12 feet off the ground most of the time. The second dream triggered from a recurring dream, I wasted 3 minutes trying to change the plot then
decided I'm dreaming why not do what I want, I lasted only about 5 seconds after that.
The lesson of long vs short dreams: Stabilize Stabilize Stabilize, or enjoy your 5-35 second lucid dream.
All my lucid dreams were on Saturday, or Sunday, one exception Monday, all but one was in the early morning (exception the middle of the night)
I use Melatonin 5mg fast dissolve, + 5mg extended release. So far 3-5 pills seems best, for vividness and triggering (so approximately 40mg total dose)
When I take high levels of Melatonin I have visions before falling asleep usually lasting a second to several seconds I see what look like dream images but I am awake
When I wake from Melatonin use after a dream (mostly non-lucid of course) I see flashing images on my closed eye lids various weird effects
This much Melatonin will distrupt your sleep but I like to wake up many times per night to record dreams anyway.
I am a natural, but when I found this board years ago and knew what a lucid dream is, it took me a couple nights I believe.
I think my first lucid came on its own, without me trying to lucid per say. Simply one night when I was a teen yet, I knew I was in my dream and so I wanted to fly. I kept jumping off the ground but I couldn't catch any air, lol. Though I failed at flying that time, it paved the way for me to desire more lucid dreams in the future.
