Question about RC's

I have a question about RC's when attempting to LD ... Let's say that I do the finger-to-palm RC and that is a physical movement. Do I physically do this when I am trying to LD or do I imagine doing it? I am afraid that doing this physically and failing will wake me up and make the attempt fail. During WILD you're really not supposed to move and attempting a physical RC would break that rule. Should I do non-physical RC's or what? I have been trying to LD for 3 nights now after hearing about it and am very new to this. I did get very close to LDing the first time though! On the right track!

You physically try to do it when you think you are in a dream. You can tell by dream signs (http://www.dreamviews.com/wiki/Dream-Signs-Tutorial) -- If you feel or see something unusual that's when you do it (for example you could find yourself on the moon or in a completely different country or see a flying pig). RCs help determine whether or not you are indeed dreaming whenever you encounter a dream sign.
