DEILD in the Headlines Again!

Sorry for the over dramatic headline but it it got you here, then its all good for everyone :-)

Theres a general belief that to successfully perform a DEILD there must be no movement, however several times i have woken up, rolled over onto my other side and immediately began to transition back into a dream / obe

Sivason, who uses an iphone vibrating alarm has been successfully DEILDing for years but each time he has to employ movement to turn his alarm off

Even in Radugas groundbreaking book 'The Phase' he says that the DEILD technique should still be performed when awaking to movement.

So are we mistaken?

Last night i realized i was rolling over onto my left side, i then kept still, used a mantra and immediately performed a successful DEILD

Any views?

Yes, usually movement is a non-issue unless the person attempting the DEILD makes an issue out of it...

I think the most important part in DEILD is to be decisive... If you woke up, moved, and decided to DEILD - it's still just as likely to work. But if you woke up, battled yourself not to doze back into sleep, turned a few times, considered DEILD, reconsidered it in favor of waking up, reconsidered again - then the chance to DEILD is lost...

Yes, i agree. Although movement might break any sleep paralysis, if you are very tired you are going to fall straight back to sleep anyway and turning once to get more comfy may even help the transition as it only takes a second to roll over. You are then on the edge of sleep again and if REM is there, then deild is easy :-) Obviously if you start tossing and turning then thats a different story.

That might explain why I've been failing DEILD. For a few years I've been LDing inconsistently. Having an LD every now and then, sometimes having dryspells. I'm currently in one and after trying various methods to be able to LD consistently, I decided to settle with DEILD, since I've accidently done it in the past.
I still haven't managed to pull it off yet. I figure it's because I concentrate too much on not moving. Then when I realize I've woken up and moved I'm like "Dang I moved... ah screw it I'm going back to sleep".
This time I'm going to think less on not moving and just carry on with the deild.

Habe you read 'The Phase'? Its a fantastic book about DEILD and its free at Out-of-Body Experience and Lucid Dreaming although is recommend buying the hardback cover version

What do you mean break the sleep paralysis? If you are in sleep paralysis you won't be able to move. Don't worry about sleep paralysis, for almost all of us it is too rare to concern ourselves with.

When waking from a dream I always try to remain still, but not in a "don't move don't move don't move!" Sort of way. More like "keep my attention on my dream body and pay attention to creating a dream." However I don't try to DEILD unless after a LD, so I have some time to prepare as the previous dream collapses. If I move, I usually still just give it about 20 seconds, and if I don't drift back to a dream then I get up and tap up my dreams. Then I go back to sleep after a small wbtb (a micro-wbtb).

I really like micro WBTBs also Sensei. I do MILD at bed time and if I'm awoken about 7 hours or so to get a drink and go the washroom. I reaffirm my intention to lucid and don't even try to stay aware. I almost always have a lucid.

Well I try to do at least 5 a night! It helps me out a lot with recall, awareness, and intention.
