I've been trying DEILD for a few weeks, and i've been using mantra, sometimes
i could wake up, but i couldn't back to sleep again. I wonder why.
I suppose it depends on how kuch you have slept.....usually if iv been asleep about 2 or 3 hours then id have a better chance rather than having too much sleep.
Iv only ever had 1 DEILD about a year ago but didnt know what it was.....i knew i shouldnt sleep because i was having a row with my gf but i was real tired and went streight into a lucid....when that lucid ended i woke up very still and felt myself go back into another lucid in the same setting.
DEILD is my primary technique, and I've found that the primetime for REM is around 5-6 hours sleep. For example, if I went to bed at 10:00, I would likely wake up around 3:00 to 3:30.
That being said, I've had multiple DEILDs that occurred around the 7-8th hour. It mostly depends on the person. Like Iriba said, try using a mantra to help you focus; one thing I've tried is using a 5 second alarm that wakes me up just slightly so I can have a lucid.
Keep your mantra simple, like: "Stay still. Eyes closed. Enter the dream." and keep it in the back of your head as you go to sleep. Most of all, you're going to need a lot of intention to follow through with it. In my years of lucid dreaming, no technique is more powerful than having intention and motivation.
Usually when i tried DEILD, i would sleep at midnight and wake up at 3am, but i always
had a reason to wake up, most of times i had a urge to go to the bathroom, or it was because my bed was too
hot and i was sweating.
In my opinion, DEILD is basically skipping those small things you need to do and fall back asleep immediately.
Because i already had some DEILDs where i could dream the same scenario again, and i skipped those little goals.
I have an elaborate setup for DEILDs. I have my apple iwatch vibrate for 5 seconds before it automatically stops on its own. It then vibrates each 15 mins. I start it about 4 hours into sleep. If im in deep sleep then it tends not to wake me. If im in rem then it wakes me and i am able to keep still. i then perform 'indirect techniques' until I can seperate out into an 'obe'
'The Phase' is the best book on the planet for DEILDs and combined with an alarm makes it a powerful technique indeed
