Hello, and welcome to the site! :D
There really is no short-cut. Like anything else that's worthwhile, it will take at least a little bit of work. Reading the info on the main site really should not take all that long -- less than an hour, in my estimation.
After you do that, you should at least have a basic grasp of what to do, and what specific questions to ask in order to get going. It would also be a good idea to at least skim through the Tutorials section -- but admittedly there is a TON of information in there.
There is no simple way of doing anything. All things worth doing take some amount of effort and the quality of the goal persued is most often directly dependant on the amount of effort needed to achieve it.
Also, in relation to strictly lucid dreaming: because attaining lucidity takes certain manipulations of the subconscious (to realize you are dreaming with any such techniques) or effort with "Wake induced lucid dreaming" there really is no "fast" and "simple" way. Perhaps some of the methods may seem simpler to you than others but unless you have all the right prerequisits I doubt a small amount of effort will be enough.
Interesting stuff, aint it?
Stephen LaBerge has a new easy pratical book that comes with a CD to help. It's any easy step by step system I think you'll benefit. When I started his books were more like text books, and not easy to pick up on but I did learn from reading.
