Just after awakening from a dream, especially around that time, seems to be a very good time to do WILD. For me, like you experienced, I can often almost instantly get back into the dream.
I wouldn't really 'force' anything too much, though.. just let it flow naturally :) But you can gentle guide it of course ;)
Next time that happens, give it another shot.. if you can get it down you can WILD on most of those occasions :D Really great. Especially if you already are lucid within a dream, and realise you are waking up. You can then rely on WILD to get back in, which will comfort and relax you, the dream will last longer that way, I think. But if you wake up anyway, you can practice WILD. So it's a win-win situation :D
