I think you have missed the point completely.
a WILD is a WAKE INITIATED LUCID DREAM.
Or in other words you enter a lucid dream (whcih can only happen when you are asleep and dreaming) directly from being awake.
So rather than loose awareness, fall asleep, have a dream and then become aware (as in a DILD) in a WILD you remain aware whilst you fall asleep and enter the dream.
a WILD is not a method either it is a type of lucid dream.
Well... the term WILD is often used to denote the method of inducing a WILD.
And to repeat the answer to the original question, you are technically sleeping, yet you never lose consciousness. I've sometimes wondered if I really am getting "beneficial" sleep wild a WILD is going on, but the dreams I get from them are so vivid and exciting that I'm fully willing to lose the sleep I do to get them. Cheers.
It may often be used that way but it is not correct.
WILD is an abbreviation of WAKE INITIATED LUCID DREAM thus refers to a state and not a method - If you read Dr. Larberge's work on this it will make it all clear (and he was the one who coined the term)
A WILD is not daydreaming nor is it strong hypnogogia - it is identical in all respects to normal dreaming sleep. It is REM sleep. All WILD means is that you fall asleep whilst remaining aware and enter a dream (genuine dream) with awareness.
In normal Lucid dreaming (DILD = Dream Initiated Lucid Dream) you add the awareness to the dream, in a WILD you add dreaming to awareness.

And all this time I thought I was alone.
Wake induced and Dream induced are basic categories of methods or states that lend themselves to the various methods.
The methods being MILD, dream signs, etc
This is the way I've always seen it, but have always been the minority
Yeah its highly important that you use the correct terms on here or were gonna fuck your ass. Seriously, who the hell do you think you are to use the word WILD as a method... fucking noob, THERE ARE LIMITS!!!
I assume you're kidding. It's more of a pet annoyance of mine - I'm not upset about it exactly.
Anyway, sorry for the detour ;)
