Types of WILD's

My name is Mariana, and I own a Web Portal and online community on Lucid Dreaming in Spanish: www.suenoslucidos.com.ar.

From my own experience, and the experiences of some users of my website, I come to the conclussion that there are, at least, bassically two types of WILD's:

:arrow: WILDs type one:

You relax and concentrate in keeping your mind awake, while your body is getting asleep. When hypnagogic images arrives, you HOLD them, and try to get them sharper, and each time more vivid, until they become the images of a dream. This type of wild takes FEW time, perhaps some 15 - 40 minutes. I suppose that REM fase is accelerated with this exercise. You get to it in an ACTIVE way, generating your own dream scenario, by intencificating the hypnagogic images. There are NO vibrations. Dreams obtained with this method are very lucid and long, you have strog dream control on them.

:arrow: WILDs type two:

You relax and concentrate in keeping your mind awake, while your body is getting asleep. When hypnagogic images arrives, you LET THEM GO AWAY, and keep your mind focused in your body relaxation and breathing. This type of wild takes MORE time, perhaps some 60 to 90 minutes. You get to it in an PASSIVE way, being the first dream scenario usually your own bedroom. There are vibrations and some times dream paralysis. Dreams obtained with this method are very lucid and shorter, you have weaker dream control on them.
You experience several false awakenings with this technique.

:!: :!: Do you, dreamers of this comunity, know more about this two kinds of WILDs?

Can you advice us of a book or webpage where we can read more about the scientific basis of these two methods?

Do you know of other clasifications of WILDs?

I dont know much about different types, since I have yet to WILD successfully, but as a newbie to them, I can tell you that I haven't actually read these facts put in such a way before, and didn't even realise it took so long to do! No wonder I failed so much, I usually assumed it wasnt working after the first serveral minutes! Thankyou for this :)

WILDs ultimately vary from person to person. For me, as hypnagogic imagery begins, I focus on relaxation, but in turn the imagery gets more intense. At some point the imagery stops and a dream suddenly starts. Takes me no more than 5 or so minutes after I lay down.

Just keep trying and find your technique.

Maybe, you can do it in 5 minutes, at morning, after a few time awake. It's easier, and faster, and actually it's not WILD, but MILD, because you are going back to a dram, through memory of a prebvious dream. I think that most people is unlikely to get asleep in less than 20-30 min, unless they are really very tired.
Moreover, dream paralysis and REM comes after the firts NOREM fase. In this way, to be able to go through sleep paralysis conciently you must saty alert all the time that normal, norem fase takes.
This is my theory. Off course, as you say, there may be as many cases as people trying this. And Probably a Tibetan Yogi can get into a deeper state of conciousness than a WILD, in just a few secconds.

Do you know if there are laboratory experiment on this?

i have entered dreams by passively focusing on hypnagogic imagery a handful of times, and they weren't extra-ordinarily clear or long.

much more often i feel sleep paralysis in the form of vibrations, and without any hypnagogic imagery whatsoever feel myself "pop out of my body" like a cork bobbing to the surface of water.

these types usually happen after i have woken up in the middle of the night, and drift back to sleep. sometimes they have occured with 5 seconds of waking up from the previous dream.

of course they could have been false awakenings where i only thought i WILDed, but i do not think so.

for myself the second type of lucid happens more quickly and lasts longer, with the dream being more stable.

*with hypnagogic imagery- 30-45 mins to transition into a lucid

*without HI, after waking up after 3-6 hours of sleep- anywhere from less than minute to 10 minutes to reenter sleep paralysis and REM sleep. .. (if i'm successful at all it is usually within ten minutes with this method)

i know of no scientific studies examing differences in WILDs....

Hey there! Normally I'm a bit suspicious when people try to advertise/promote other sites via another forum... but...

I TOTALLY respect what you're trying to do here. Perhaps the english-speaking community DOES have more people and resources than the Spanish, I'm not sure, but if that's the case, I hope we CAN be of help!

Now, I'm only really laearning about LDs, and plus, I'm really busy in real-life at the moment and not able to help much... but I REALLY hope others in the community can help share information, as what you are trying to do, I think, is really positive.

One thing: I think that breaking WILDs down into "types" may not be the best of approaches... from what I understand, WILDs differ heaps for individuals, and I'm not entirely sure that breaking WILDs down into categories will be productive.

But that's just my opinion, and since I'm just learning, I may be totally wrong...

But, whatever, what you are doing, creating a Latin dream-community and trying to draw on the experience of the English-speaking dreaming community, is very, very admirable. I wish you the best of success!

(As a sidenote, I'd LOVE to speak spanish, but am useless with languages... ugh...)

As most everyone else has said, WILDs aren't really an exact science. You have to figure out what is right for you and your body.....Sometimes, even the slightest thing can make a big difference in your WILD experience. I don't think there are any set in stone procedeures. There more like guidelines that you follow and tailor to yourself.
