weird HILD experience
Last evening I was doing a HILD (see the HILD tutorial), in order to try to break my boring recall free dream streak this week. I was very tired and when I was counting in order to relax, starting at about count 60, I starting having some weird sensations, some of which were expected, some of which were not.
Starting at aroung count 60, I started keenly feeling my heatbeat. Maybe Around count 75, I started feeling a tingling sensation in my upper legs. at about 90, I started feeing a pulsating sensation in my left elbow. This was the weirdes, and as your elbow doesn't pulsate, It is very hard to describe. my best explanation is that it felt as it my elbow was pulsing against the ground. These continued throughout my self-hypnosis, with one or the other being more felt at times. Also, the sensations weakened as a breathed in, and intensified as a breathed out. Another experience which was interesting was that i felt an extreme heaviness in my fingers at one point, that was much more than in any other body part. These experiences were some of the weirdest I have felt.
I know some of these, like heaviness and tingling is expected, but some of the feelings felt like what I would expect to feel in a WILD (I haven't attempted one yet). I should mention I was very tired, and probably could have WILDed right there it I had continued counting and added "I am Lucid", even though it was only about 7 pm adn I was lying on the basement carpet. Are these experiences normal for HILDing, and other experiences where you enter a very relaxed state? because last time I did a self-hypnosis, it was nowhere near to these sensations. It was interesting, and I kept at it the whole way, but It was really weird, and nothing like I expecte.

Self-Hypnosis is best practiced sitting up. While lying down can get you into a trance state faster it on the other hand will give you more strange sensations (You will still have some, usually just not as many) and you have a chance of being knocked out. Since you have to focus on the Hypnotic suggestions when the time comes you will usually only be in somewhat of a trance state. So what I did was make a tape of the hypnosis. Just recorded myself saying the whole session on both sides of a tape, and now the trance is much deeper and the suggestions are more powerful.

Seems like a great idea, maybe I will try it. By the way, When you recorded yourself, were you using the instructions in the tutorial for HILD? Anyways, thanks for the explanation for the strange sensations, makes sense that lying down while tired would produce more than if you are sitting up. Brilliant

While the HILD method is great a very common induction technique is the fractional relaxation technique ( I believe there is a tutorial on this site). Fractional relaxation consists of relaxing each part of the body seperatly. While this would be a longer session than the HILD tutorial it would most likely offer more effects. One program that is great for people who would like to use basic hypnotism is "Virtual hypnotist" Just read over the tutorial that comes with it and you will be writing your own sessions in no time.

Yeah these sound like classic WILD symptoms to me, really. The technique you're using is pretty similar, with all the counting and relaxing. I havent read about HILD yet, but whenever I go into a trance i've never really felt the same symptoms so I guess something isnt quite right in your technique yet! I shall go read up on HILDs
