Question on attaining lucidity

I've kept a dream journal for about 2 months, writing down my dreams in adequate detail. I go to sleep telling myself I will experience a lucid dream. I've identified a dream sign yet I cannot seem to get lucid. I don't know what I can do to snap into consciousness during the dream. I just observe the dream but I cannot like get my mind to consciously get into the dream. How can I force myself to think during the dream? Of course patience is necessary, but am I missing something? Can I do something else to expedite the process?

In a study done on lucid dreamers, it was found that a large amount of them meditated on a regular basis. I suggest that you try to scoot that into your schedule at least once a week.

I know it's frustrating, but you just need to keep at it. It takes some people more practice than others before becoming lucid. There's no sure-fire way become lucid every time.

I'd try becoming more aware of your surroundings in waking life. Pay attention to details, and if anything a little strange happens, be sure to question it and don't brush it off. By being more aware in reality, you may become more aware while dreaming and be more likely to obtain lucidity.

Also, an unquestionably passionate yearning to become lucid that night, with lucid dreaming as your sole thought, the evening before will increase your chances mightily, perhaps adding a technique or two in, at the early hours. I find WBTB mixed with MILD works INCREDIBLY well for me, and has so far been 100% effective at inducing LDs, when performed to the letter, so far!

Is this dreamsign something you can see in real life (like an object, person, etc) or something you're not likely to see often (pink elephants, flying donkeys, etc)?

Seeing a dreamsign doesn't guarantee you'll become lucid (as you're finding out). You have to realize that our minds are in a state of acceptance while we dream that just about anything is simply "normal". What makes a dreamsign effective is the impact it has on your emotions in waking life. The way it might make you behave if you were awake. It is this feeling or emotion that you have to somehow carry over into the dream with you as well.

For example: I've always had a fascination for tornadoes and would dream about them often. The dreams were a bit terrifying, but when I woke up I looked back on them as being awesome and exciting. Figuring out how I would get away from 7 twisters as they chased me down the road across a field was exhilirating!! So I identified this as my dreamsign - not just the tornado - but the excitement of the chase, the rush. One night (in a dream)I was freaking out about an approaching tornado. Then, that feeling surfaced as I was looking around in a panic - and it sort of "reminded" me of the feeling I got from "those tornado dreams". I questioned my reality at that point. Eventually, I became lucid.
