how did you first become lucid

i have had no luck in becoming lucid so if you say how you started out it might help me a bit

my first lucid dream happened before i even knew what LDing was. But basically i was in some hotel draining water from food with a strainer and i noticed that the water wouldn't go though the holes. Then, BAM the thought suddenly hit me that thats illogical, its not being affected by gravity, and i became lucid but woke up shortly after.

For me, it was a dream sign. I had watched the movie Rose Red, and I have nightmares easily. So I looked up what I could do about it, and came here. I found out I had to work at it for awhile, so I came up with a solution and a lucid that night: Repetition.

I literally did a reality check every 10 minutes for the last five hours of being awake. I dreamt about being the main character of Office Space and did I reality check, found out I was in a dream, and woke up.

I havent tried any of the techniques here, but then again I dont really know about them. Still trying to understand them all.

I started slowly, its taken me years. I started with a dream diary! And in this diary of mine, that I started ten years ago, I wrote down what I could remember since I was little. It wasn't much, only fragments. But the more I wrote, the more I could remember of my past dreams.

It was like going back in time and remembering your child hood. And every now and then, I would have vivid dream. I WASN'T lucid in the dream. But the dream was vivid. And I would do my best to write down those dreams. Well it was like opening pandoras box! The more I wrote down my dreams, the more vivid my dreams became, the more I could remember. The more I could remember my dreams, the more I realized I WAS dreaming. And then after some years I had my first lucid dreams!

Of course writing down dreams every day, gets old, boring and sometimes im too lazy. But for me, the relationship is there. Sometimes I have an epic dream that seems to last for days! But if I don't write it down, the dreams after that epic dream get less...and less...and less..vivid tell I have whole periods where I wake up remembering nothing...........

In my case, I didn't know about lucid dreams at that time, and I found myself trapped into my dream after the storyline ended. All I wanted then was to get out of my dream, but it wasn't very difficult :D

For me back in 1992 I believe. I was reading a book called Would Buddha Wear a Walkman? It's about differnt ways of achieving new levels of conciousness, (mind machines, meditation etc) Well there was a section on Lucid Dreaming by Stephen LaBerge. I read it and that night I had my first lucid.

I was in a friends house (really more like a Warehouse studio). I was just visiting them, when I stood up I was really tall and my depth perception was incredibly strange. I thought, "i must be dreaming" So I was really excited and wanted to float. So I hovered about a couple feet off the ground and moved around the Warehouse. My friends wer're impressed and wasnt sure how I was doing this.

I was having this dream where I was walking with some friend on some private boarding school grounds in california (the friend/shcool don't really exist) at night. Suddenly it hit me I was dreaming. I payed no attention to it and kept walking. I had no idea what lucid dreaming was at the time, but for a few nights I obsessed over controlling my dreams, then forgot about it until my second LD, where I managed to glide down like a bird after jumping off a waterfall. Again I obsessed over LDing for a few nigths, and again forgot about it. A few months later I was bored and googled lucid dreaming, and found this sight.

The first lucid I had after joining this sight was about a week after joining this sight, and I did self-hypnosis(check out the HILD (hypnosis induced lucid dreaming) tutorial) a few nights earlier, but I didnt' actually recall the dream. I did a self-hypnosis again a couple weeks later, and if I remember correctly I had another couple unrecalled LDs afterwards, but I'm not sure. I personally like self-hypnosis as it works WITH your subconcsious since you're in at least somewhat of a trance, instead of just forcing the thought of LDing on your brain. I can't swear by it though, since I haven't done it in a while. Maybe I'll try it again soon.

I had my first LD after 3 weeks of being here. I had had a couple of low-level LDs before that when I was younger, but until I came here I didn't know that many people could realize they were dreaming and that there were ways to learn how.

My first LD came partially as a result of WBTB, but was basically just a DILD (dream-induced LD). If you're looking at a particular technique, everyone's different, so you could just look through the tutorials and try one for at least a week. Just give it time and be persistent. If you feel the need you can always just let go LDing for a week or so and then come back with a fresh start. Some people have even had LDs when they decide to take a break.

I had done it in the past but didn't know what it was. I then got interested in dream control and wound up here. I just read up on all the different methods, kind of put pieces of all of them together to form my own, and ended up with an LD a week after I came here. Since then (4 months ago) I've had 4 LD experiences (very short, but it's progress). The RCs never worked for me, I just 'realize' that I am dreaming when I become lucid.

I'm pretty sure I was lucid once, but I didn't really know that I was dreaming. I was running through a mall and a big wave was chasing me. I escaped, but I wasn't very creative, so I thought to myself, "why don't I do that again?". I made the tidal wave restart and ran away from the same wave for at least 10 minutes. That's the only time I ever remember becoming lucid.

[size=18]First of all, I didn't know it had a name until recently - which is why I've stumbled onto this site.

I've done this most of my teen/adult life - Often times in a dream, I simply realize "Hey, this is a dream." There are many kinds even at that. Sometimes you can change the dream, sometimes as I've seen in posts it's like you are remembering it. The one constant once I realized that I could guide my dreams and know they were dreams- is that I've always asked myself as I'm dreaming, "If this is a dream, let see / do something entirely impossible in the waking world." Often I see my grandmother or a friend who died while I was in my teens. Sometimes it's a KNOWING, and other times I'll jump up and float around, flying but close to the ground. I've recognized dejavu as dreams I've dreamed. I've written entire books (twice) in my dreams. I've gained serious knowledge, woke up knowing I'd somehow learned something new and important, but not knowing what it is just yet.

And, what about dreaming in Color? When I heard this - I was shocked it was even asked, as I'd always dreamed in color to the best of my knowledge..

I always dream in color too...
Also, deja vu is never pparent to me until it happens in waking life.

The 2 LD's I've had since I saw this site were just out of the blue. I suddenly say "I'm dreaming." I don't know how I knew.

The other about 8 LD's I've had throughout the course of my life I realized by being naked in public. I'm NEVER naked in public (obviously, otherwise I'd be pretty stupid :? ) so I just realized that I'm dreaming.
