Is it possible to do WILD without WBTB?
Probably but you might just have to sit through 90 minutes of long darkness until a REM period. Or maybe you might have a bit of a dream during those 90 minutes.
well i think it would be hard to say. when i try usually the next thing i know is its morning and im thinking about trying the WILD tecnique, but then realize its morning. but however, one time i was trying and the next thing i knew, i was in a non-lucid dream.
has anyone else tried a WILD without WBTB? do tell. :)
Thats the only way i try it. I bet it is possible because i can get to SP and HI. And i believe it did work once for me.
if numerous accounts from generally trustworthy people are true, yes.
though unless one has a natural gift for WILDing, it would seem to make more sense to sleep for half the night, and then attempt. much easier.
i have yet to have any lucid of any type, but the farthest ive gotten in WILD without WBTB is a sensation of heaviness.. but that could also be from a day at an amusement park riding rollercoasters... i dont really feel like getting up at 3 am each time i want a lucid, although im considering setting an alarm so i wake up if i fall asleep trying... but if i DO get lucid, it might stop it short... ;) hard to say.
you don't neccessarily have to "get up" for half an hour with the light on...simply setting an alarm or radio to wake you up after 4.5 hours of sleep, and rolling back into bed with intent is enough to greatly increase your chances of WILDing successfully.
REM (dreaming sleep) periods get longer and closer together as the night progresses.
this means that if you try to WILD at the beginning of the night, you will likely have to maintain awareness for at least an hour before a potential success (the first REM period is typically 90 minutes after the first stage of sleep).
whereas if you wake up in the middle of the night, and attempt WILD, you could very well have success within minutes, as the body is primed to return to dreaming sleep.
i speak from a fair bit of experience and am only trying to help :)
why on earth wouldn't you be willing to get up for ten minutes in the middle of the night for an excellent opportunity to gain access to a realm where you can fly, make love to anyone you wish, or walk through walls?
seems a small price to pay.
true, but i should like to see if i cant get a lucid without having to wake up.
if it wouldnt be too much trouble, could one of you experienced LDers
post which tecniqes dont require rising in the middile of the night, and
which ones are best?
i havnt even gotten to SP in my attemps at WILD without WBTB... i havnt tried WILD
without WBTB
check out the tutorials on "DILD" and "reality checks".
question your reality ("am i dreaming right now?") as often as possible during the day, using reality checks (RCs).
my favourites are to look at a digital clock/text, look away, and see if it has changed. or, plug your nose tightly, and try to take a deep breath with your mouth closed.
these are two very reliable, easy RCs.
be diligent in doing these every day, and soon you'll find yourself doing a reality check while actually dreaming :)
hmm well this is starting to sound a little bit like MILD...
thinking about LDing untill you fall asleep, it might just work as one.
anyways, id really like to know what percentage of the time MILD works
for you.
i havnt had it work once. if you have, please post what you do to make it work.
(most documents on LDing are all the same, just copied and pasted,
and id like to know what REALLY works)
Under the right circumstances, 100% for me :)
lol but what are those circumstances? what do you do?
i did just last night.
it was 5 AM and I had yet to fall asleep. i took a long nap during the day is why. So i was thinking of someone really really hard while lying in my bed and before I knew it dream images were forming...
I was not trying to WILD at all before I just kept thinking of that one person. When the images of other stuff came I said to myself, no keep thinking of that person. If anyone's seen eternal sunshine of the spotless mind... it felt like that. Like I was trying to run away from forgetting..
but then I forgot all about that person and then thought someone was trying to suffocate me because I was shaking soo hard I thought I was dying then I rememebered I'm WILDing so then I came to in the dream world, did a RC right away and yup I was dreaming. It was really great because it was one of the most realist dreams I've ever had. I rememeber everything I said and the faces of the people really well etc. I ended up waking up real soon but pretty cool experience.
WILD happens whenever your body is falling asleep yet your mind is awake. That happens when your body chemistry is right and your mind is not preventing you from falling asleep. For example if you are just laying in your bed like a hunter, waiting for the prey (the dream in this case) you are in for a very long and frustrating ride. Why? Cause your body and your mind is in disagreement. Your ancestors would not have survived if they fell asleep every time they laid in some bushes waiting for that deer to pass by.
So you have to wait for that body chemistry to set up as it's supposed to be. This can be done by a variety of methods and it takes time to find the one for you. For example you may lay in your bed and keep minimal awareness of your thoughts ( like focus on one thought and let everything else go) but it still takes time. You may also try to fall back asleep if something interrupted your sleep - just keep minimal awareness and you shall succeed. Sometimes WILDs happen for no apparent reason, but that's rare.
It is much easier to have WILD if you know what you are looking for. Just heaviness or numbness in your limbs is not a sign of WILD. Genuine WILD hits you like a freight train - one moment you are just laying in bed half aware, next moment you have all these hallucinations like sounds, spinning, falling, humming, seeing with your eyes closed... It is very intense and cant be mistaken for anything else. You may manipulate WILD in many ways - just go with the flow, create a new setting or do a backflip and have an OBE like experience...
There's also a soft "WILD' without hallucinations, but it's a part of a conscious effort to enter a dream and I doubt it occurs naturally.
PS. If for some reason you fail one WILD, just relax and dont get too excited. Your body chemistry is right and you will get another WILD within a few minutes. If you find yourself in a LD and it is too short, do a RC once you wake up and relax, you will get another WILD. That body chemistry works wonders - your body *really* wants to fall asleep and start dreaming !
