When you try and do a wild does everyone see HI, or does it like depend on the person? Because out of the tons of times I have tried wilds the most I have ever got was like a blob of grey light which lasts about 10 seconds. Normally I see that after like 5-10 minutes then I go the rest of the hour or longer and I won't see a single other thing.
Actually I've never experienced hynagogic imagery at all. I just get the sensations mostly.
i have only tried WILD a few times, but the first time, i started to see many different lights. and i started to fall asleep, so i tried to do some math, and the first thing that came to mind was 2+2=4 (the numbers were above eachother though). then the four and = sign disappeared, and the top 2 got very bright, and that's when i fell asleep. although i am not sure if that would be considered hypnagogic imagery.
What sensations is that? I felt and heard stuff the first time I tried, but since then I have never heard, felt or seen anything. Unless you count your body getting kind of numb from not moving, which I don't think has anything to do with falling asleep.
That's an interesting question.
Of all my experiences, only 2 times I saw what most LD induction books refer as HI ( an image directly behind your eyelids). Once I saw something made of grey light and another time I saw a firework.
Most of the time, my "personal" HI is located behind my eyeballs. It's hard to describe. Like your normal vision and your imagination merges.
If I focus, I just see images/people/events and cant control it.
If I try, I can switch view and see sparks of light and purple blobs behind my eyeballs (However it never merges in some kind of a picture). Or I can switch to imagination only and then I can control it, but it takes effort to maintain picture.
My golden rule is - once you merge your imagination and sight, maintain neutral attitude and just watch. (main thing - dont question anything you see)...
I tried to make images appear with my imagination before but I can't get anything to stay. Some times I can get really small stuff to show up but then it like moves around and stuff then its hard to see and disappears, and never any color.
My HI begins with the blobs of light. Sometimes grey, sometimes a very bright vivid purple. After a few minutes, it developed into little 1 second sequences of dreams.
I never get any of the sensations until I begin to see the image seqeunces.
Mmm, interesting. Maybe I WILDed sunday morning by accident. I focused on an intent to become lucid and as I was doing this saw a very short clip of two teddy bears fighting eachother. One said to the other: 'You search my dibble you blooming biscuit'. I got up and wrote it down straight away (I dont have a bedside table, I have to walk over to the other side of the room)
I see absolutely no Hypa Imagery whatsoever. I am treated to an excellent shade of black however, which would be ultimately useless for myself unless somebody asked me to paint their room that color.
I can seem to always get hynagogic images. But they don't often lead to A lucid dream. I read that if you try not to alter the images you can kind of walk your way into the seen once it gets vivid enough. I have only achieved Lucid dreaming this way twice. Most of the time I fall asleep first.
But a lot of my creative Ideas have come from this stage so I am not complaining. I think hynogogic imagery is in itself under rated. Everyone is too concerned about achieving lucidity. Which of coarse is fine.
I think everyone is pretty much different, when it comes to variations of wilds..
Please tell me you didn't say this Arlic? Tsk.. Tsk...Tsk.. You gotta be kidding me right? This Numb state you are referring to has everything to do with falling asleep its called sleep paralysis.. Everyone goes through it when they fall asleep, but the thing is, is that everyone doesn't become alert to experience it.Quote:

Do these feelings proceed the mild tecniques. Maybe that is where the difference lies. When I am in the stage of relaxing, thats when I begin to get images but I am not to the point of repeating any phrases yet.
Im not too sure why, But I've been doing it as a child before I even knew that it was called WILD. I just never seen any imagery at all. Probably because the way I induce it. I induce Wilds the same as OBE's. via sleep paraylsis. The only difference is, is that if I do not Float out of my Physical then Im definately going into dreamland. Its a matter of timing it for me. I don't have much time to initiate an OBE from the paralysis state, If I don't catch it then Im spending the next few seconds reminding myself that Im going to be Lucid upon entering my dream setting. And I repeat that over and over again in my mind until Im able to move my body again which gives me indication that Im in that dream. All of my WILDS start from where ever I started sleeping. IF I initiate WILDS from falling asleep on my couch then thats where my Lucid Dream starts. Guess thats why its pretty hard for me to have false awakenings. hahaQuote:

Oh and the MILDs are easy, Just before I close my eyes I just take a mental snapshot of the way I want a dream. And Im so used to going in Lucid that this way I don't have to remind myself before I fall asleep or while Im laying in bed. What I hate the most is that My Milds doesn't give me what I get from my WILDS. Im Limited in Milds pretty much the exact same way as me becoming Lucid while Im dreaming. But My WILD's are soooo Powerful, thats why I try WILDs more often. But for me its like waiting for a Train to catch. Im trying to catch Sleep paralysis and sometimes I miss the train per say.

I had a dream where I woke up in my bed to go to the bath room everything was absolutley par until I opoended the door and the president was standing there. BOOM holy crap! To suddenly realize your in a Lucid dream that ubruptly. That was cool.
Thats cool. But Im not so fortunate all the time. Sometimes if I don't go into the dream Pre-Lucid and I have to catch it while Im in that dream (which by the way is the hardest thing and if anyone says its easy is lying) Some of the most profound things could pop out in my face to give me indications that Im dreaming and I would never catch it and I wake up feeling like a total idiot :doh: Thanks bro!
I dont think its sleep paralysis because I can move fine. I think its might just be all the blood pooling in your arms and legs for not moving for an hour straight heh.

I have to start making up scenes and places consciously, and after a while they kind of keep going on by themselves and I am just a spectator. When this happens and I go along with it I get sleep paralisis, which is the state that makes me loose my concentration most of the times...
I see hypnogogic imagery when I close my eyes normally. You know, the wierd lava lamp-like purples, reds, and blacks that someone previously described.
But if I get deep enough into relaxation and meditation, my astral sight comes very quickly.
Astral Sight is pretty damn cool too. Everything that's usually yellow or white light is blue. Crazy shizzit.
You see it normally? I know if I could just see it, I could lucid dream easily. I normally just lay there for an hour though then I have to move. If there was something to look I wouldn't get bored so fast and give up. Plus I hear it helps you fall asleep so might not take me so long.
Yeah you and I have quite a bit in common. I appreciate your statement but theres nothing to envy unless you envy yourself as well you're just like me truth. But I can kinda sense that about you. Only the great ones can achieve these kinds of results and that you are buddy.Quote:

Actually if you can move fine then its not sleep paralysis. If you ever experience it believe me you will know about it. Sleep paralysis occurs with every single human being once they are sleep this process of the body shutting down is a must so that the dreamer doesn't act out his/her dreams in the real.

Thank you very much for the compliment shadow, but I don't really think I am quite there... yet
Hopefully someday I will, but as of now I am kind of in a dry spot (1 or 2 a week), so who knows if it is a permanent thing or if it is temporary, and I will go back to what I once was able to do (4 or 5 per week, so pretty much everytime I tried after 6 hours sleep)...
Anyway, I hope that with a bunch of practice in various areas, such as lenght, control,etc, I will get half as good as you are...

Anyway I always see HI when I want to... sometimes I dont but then i'm not concentrating on trying to achieve lucidity, but usually I can almost summon it on command... There's strange yellowish green blobs and purple whitish ones, sometimes a bit of grey, all on a background best described as static on a tv but then in shades of black/red.
I believe that a persons personality could aid in some instances. For example: I, in waking life tend to question almost everything. almost to the point of compulsive. However when i was introduced to Lucid dreaming the way I obtain Lucidity is by questioning wierd things that are going on in my dream. Because it is somthing I do on a consistant basis in real life.So most of my Ld's are achieved by "catching it while I'm dreaming".

Hey How thats great man I never really thought of that.. Thats is such a great idea for new comers also... who hasn't acheived Lucidity yet. I've always believed that if you make a habit out of something in your everyday world then it will utimately play out in your dreams. Although not as compulsive as you probably howetzer, if something weird happens I also always question reality and do a RC... Its sort of the point of doing RC's, right?
Sure. that is why I do them at least. If you make a habit of doing somthing in your concious life it only stands to reason that you are more likly to stumble opon it in your dreams. If not I have been doing it wrong :?
I love hypnagogic imagery.
Sometimes when i'm intensily meditating, it takes me over, and i start having small spasms, and it feels like a drug trip...although i haven't done hardcore drugs...Its also fun before REM, to induce it...wow...the rush of energy.
it seems like ever since i was little i've been able to see HI. mostly at night when i see different shaped blobs of purple and black. cool thing is i seem to be able to move around the lights at will by focusing on one in particular and move my eyes around. its pretty cool. i reached dream paralysis pretty quickly a few nights ago but lost it cause i jerked up when i heard a loud crash and found out my guitar fell off its stand. :(
I think the answer would be simply yes.. If we dream dreams we can surely see Hypnagogic imagery.
It is the stage your body goes through from wakefulness to light sleep.(Half asleep)
Have you ever been lieing there and heard peoples voices or see quick images (dreamlets) pass before you?
Some people use this tecnique to induce (WILD) Wake initated Lucid Dreams. They focus on the images before their eyes and as the images become more vivid it leads them into sleep. - However they are aware of this transistion, therefore letting them become Lucid.
Why do you think some people don't see it anything then?
Maybe it is like that old saying: " can't see the forest for the trees". Maybe it is there but they are not intunded or introduced to the concept.
well if you have any visuals at all inside the dream I think you can do it. You know blind people only hear noises in dreams though, so that brings up further questions....
Its either there or its not, and if it is you will see it. It can't be there and you not see it. That would go against the entire concept.
I think the reason not everyone sees it might because the brain doesn't create any images untill your fully asleep. Like instead of slowly going through the stages, every thing all comes at once. I don't feel anything either(I have but only 2 or 3 times ever) or hear anything.
You may not be in the proper state of mind. relaxed, Focused? I can generally have hynagogic imagery at will but if I do not put any thought into it before going to sleep I will do just that -go to sleep. There is a very short window of opprotunity between sleep stages for hypnagogic imagery.
I can get very relaxed and that doesn't help any. I tried creating images and also tried just laying back and let what happens, happen. Did not see anything with either. I have even got into a dream before and still didn't see or feel a thing. Was nothing at all then out of no where was a flash of images and I was inside the dream instantly.
I am starting think to maybe I am just unable to see any.
Interesting you say purple, cos thats what i often get. i read somewhere (a book) that purple is the spiritual colour, relating to chakras etc.Quote:

In an attempt to WILD, I saw whitish forms of a Stargate and Major Carter (from the Stargate SG-1 show)... but failed to enter a dream that time...
I never experience the Hypnagogic Imagery. Im kinda like my brother on it. Even though I've only did a WILD once, all the scenes just appeared all of a sudden.
This is just a thought.
I wonder if those who can fall asleep easily are the ones who do not see the images.
The reason I say this is because just out of my own expieriance, I cannot fall asleep easily. Average time about 25 minutes of lieing there to get to sleep. I almost always see images. BUT if I am very tired and can fall asleep fast I do not have sucess when I try for those images.
Likewise my freind sleeps easily and can never recall seeing hynogogic imagery.
It usually takes me a while to sleep, when I lie in my bed thats the only time I truely have the opportunity to think, my thoughts always keeps me awake for awhile before I drift off to wonderland. :wink:

To the contrary. When you are trying to engage hypnogogic imagery you are not suppose to be thinking of anything. You are suppoes to meditate and relax and not focus your attention on one particular thing.Quote:

I was talking about when I normally go to sleep, I think a lot about stuff. I also move around a lot in my bed. When I try WILDs though I lay still without moving and I try to keep my mind clear. Some times I think about stuff anyway, even tried forcing HI to show up before. Doesn't seem to matter either way though, I never see HI no matter what I try, even with a clear mind.
Alric Doesn't that suck. Somtimes when your wheels (mind) get spinning there is no stopping it. I cannot stand when I toss and turn thinking about this & that. :rolleyes:

Since I been doing WILDs I found if I try and can stop thinking about a lot of the stuff some times and just lay there, and that helps me fall asleep.
