As I've been trying to LD the past few days, I've been sleeping later and later in the night. It seems that the problem was that I was focusing on trying to sleep rather than trying to relax. Before I just let sleep happen without incident. Well last night I tried something new...
I tried to hypnotize myself into sleep by saying and believing "As I count from 1 to 100 I fall into deeper sleep". Turns out that as I was counting (and breathing deeply), I remained conscious while falling asleep. And yet, as I lost focus of counting, I would become too awake. Eventually, when I got to 50s and 60s I began feeling the sensations of a WILD (vibrations, some HI). I lost my concentration when I focused on the vibrations. Then I realized I was relaxed and fell asleep. When I woke up it seemed that my dream recall had improved!
I'll keep you guys posted as I experiment a little more with this. :)

thats a nice idea, did you count with your eyes closed or open? when you try again, you should try with your eyes closed, and if you get weird flashes of light or patterns, try watching them without focusing on them too much, and keep relaxed, telling yourself you will stay lucid. more good info on this is if you search for Lucid Crossroads.

I have the same things happen to me. I will attempt a WILD/HILD and end up doing the counting thing. I have only gotten the vibrations once, but I get the HI almost nightly. Also I get the extremely heavy feeling on my limbs, but I usually lose concentration, or drift into sleep. This is the closest I have come to a WILD.
