An interesting technique I tried...

This is a variation of MILD. I tried it the other night and had the most success so far.

Soon after initially going to bed, starting thinking about lucid dreaming. Imagine becoming conscious in a dream, how that will happen, et cetera. Think about past dreams. Imagine what you would do upon becoming lucid. Think about how you would work to stay conscious, how real it would seem, you get the picture. Don't think about how much you WANT the lucid dream, just think about the dream itself. Just imagine that you're dreaming right now.

After picturing all this in great detail, forget about it. Let it go, let yourself fall asleep. Think about something else, or better yet, think about nothing at all. In most other MILDs, you're supposed to keep thinking about lucid dreaming; you're supposed to convince yourself that you'll LD. That's where this differs. The point is to not try, to not worry, to not want, to let it come to you.

Anyway, this seems to work well for me. Try it out.

Cool variation. I will try that. That seems to be an ongoing problem for a lot of people. Worrying about it to much. I know I am guilty.

that's how i've had my very few ld's w/out even knowing what they were. i just went to sleep imagining something...(fine, someone) i really wanted to dream about. :D

Thats an excellent observation on the MILD technique. And I know it works because I usually induce My Ld's in this particular way.. I already know Im going to be conscious so I just set in my mind a dream setting and drift off to my scene that I've already pre-created in my thoughts.

I am doing the same thing recently!!!

I only add something else. Since I live in the northern hemisphere it is the beginning of Spring. So I awaken at 6:30 cause my window faces east. Then I close the curtains so the room is dark again and fall asleep with MILD. It works great for the past few days.

hmm, djaio...that's exactly how i've always undergone MILD...but i suppose i never closely considered the differences. i also find the letting go part very helpful. i often doze off 2 or 3 times during this 'letting go' phase. Eventually i fall completely asleep and proceed to go into a 'coming to' phase similar to the 'letting go' phase...except while coming to i often wake up several times, before i finally wake up in the early AM. This is the middle of the night, at which point i decided whether to stay up or go back to sleep immediately - either way, i start it all over.

it's a very enjoyable experience! And i think the disorienting nature of it allows me to better-retain some conscious thought.
