It is annoying when that happens :(.
I guess in stead of spinning you could keep doing RC's or rub your hands while lucid.
... My first 3 or 4 LDs were all FAs. There was no dream before it, just a simple FA that wouldn't last more than a couple of seconds, so I kinda know how you feel. Though I got told it's pretty normal for the first ones... and I haven't had them for a while now, unless they come up after a LD, which is also pretty normal it seems :?
I don't know why this happens, but when I wasn't in a dry spell (which I am now), I would get lucid, and generally have an FA, and another, though they got less sever after a few LDs. I think it's very common on people who haven't LDed much, and the brain needs to get used to staying in an LD slowly, and eventually will stabilize more easily letting you stay in the dream.
Next time you have a false awakening, do a reality check and take advantage of the situation to become even more lucid! ;)
i've never had a false awakening, but it must be sooo wierd to wake up two times.
especially if you didn't know you were dreaming for the first one. i'm kind of looking forward to one, just to see what its like. doesn't sound too great though, the way you guys are putting it.
It's cause they aren't. They are generally exactly like real life, so unless you get Lucid it's often like, "damn, It's time to get up already." You then start getting up, only to wake up yet again a minute later for real, and have to go through the process of gettting up again. I guess they can sometimes be interesting, when they are still in the middle of the night, and weird stuff happens (like feeling yourself being in bed, but still thinking you're in the dream scene before), but generally, they're not that great.
Most of my dreams are FAs. I'll get up and be like, all right, I remember my dream perfectly, and then I"ll write it in great detail (while walking down the middle of the street all of a sudden), and then I'll really wake up and be pissed because 1) I had a false awakening and don't want to "rewrite" my dream, and 2) I can't write it down in as much detail as I just did.
The only lucid dream I had was when I checked a clock and the time changed, only to hit Wesley Snipes with a car moments later and be shocked into a non-lucid dream.
Both of my puny lucid dreams included a false awakening but luckily I managed to stay lucid both times. I think a good practice would be to immediately do an RC upon awakening. If you can get into that habit, FA's will never be able to fool you. Every time I wake up I immediately do the nose RC just in case.
It is quite common for a false awakening to occur. I really haven't researched the topic to find out true specific reasoning behind it, but it is seemingly odd to me that it happens none-the-less. It's like an abort mode from the mind..."bail out, he's figured it out" sort of thing. The best our mind can do to fend off lucidity in a sense, as if it has a need to do so.
My first "successful" night for me, included a false awakening after rubbing my hands. I awoke in my room, grabbing for a notepad to write down my lucid I just had. Not only did I false awake, but I returned to sleep from this false writing experience, and returned to lucidity!
yer the only reason I got the FAs was caz of the WBTB thing well the last few... and its only because I think ive half fell asleep and Ive woken up a bit and said ill do a realty cheak to get into the habbit of it and all of a sudden im dreaming.... but it seems to be i have this really wierd fear if lucid dreaming now... wen eva im reading the topic i feel so unsafe idk like my mind is doing it 2 stop me its only happend latly i mean wtf!?!?!? sorry im really tierd if this dosent make sence.
Ha! I get that all the time. Getting up in the morning isn't half as bad as waking up during the night, feeling really, really tired and just managing to write in the diary loads and then 30 seconds later waking up for real and knowing straight away that you havn't written anything and have to do it all again.
I don't mind them, apart from the diary part, I think it's pretty cool thinking you're awake. Especially when some strange stuff happens and you just accept it - I once woke up and had a huge dinosaur skeleton hanging from my ceiling. I just looked at it for a while, and went back to sleep.
I STAND FOR FA'S
Well, to cure your problem, do an RC everytime you wake up.
Anyway, lucids that come from FA's are great. The one thing every master lucid dreamer wants... VIVIDNESS!
FA's are about as vivid as they get, apart from OBE's (or OBE lucids for non-believers), and it is great. You can tell when you have an FA because you don't wake up tiredish/groggy at all. You can hop straight out of bed.
Lol, I once had an FA where I was answering my little intercom waker up call from my Dad, and then my bro and sis called me, all at the ssame time, and I was talking in 3 voices at once. I then woke up to my dad ringing me, saying time to wake up. Bummer, if he hung up, I could have spotted that something was wrong chatting in three voices.
