same here. I was just reading somewhere else that it is balances the left and right side of your brain.
does anyone have any tips on how i can get comfortable sleeping on my back?
I've never slept on my back before. I can only sleep comfortably on my side. Probably just a matter of getting used to I guess.
It might have something to do with your blood flow when you sleep on your back. I don't know much about anatomy, but it seems like you could be lying on a major vein if you sleep on your side.
The more blood to your brain --> something else beneficial to LDs --> a higher LD success rate
Generally sleeping on your back is recommended for WILD type techniques, and that's because it's typically an uncomfortable position for most people, so you stay conscious easier, and you don't drift off as easily as you normally would. So I've heard anyway. I suppose it could help with other techniques of lucid dream as well, because it would probably still be easier to become conscious if your in an uncomfortable position while in your dream.
I used to only sleep on my side, but when I learned that on your back
is better for LD's, (and started using an iPod music alarm with earbuds) I just
started forcing myself to. Now I almost alwayssleep on my back and also get
to sleep pretty quick too (although I don't know if they are related in any way).
I'll bet you can get used to it.
in the summer i tend to sleep on my back a lot.. but now it's absolutely freezing.. most've the time I lie on my side all scrunched up!!
I also sleep on my side normally, but find it easier to try WILDing [I haven't actually succeeded, but I mean I get closer to..] while on my back. I personally don't know if it's because it's uncomfortable, the blood flow hypothesis seems more accurate..
I was going to give a couple ideas but realized they all sound pretty rediculous :|
hm.. must keep thinking
find a nice, warm blanket!Quote:

I used to only have nightmares this way,but after conqering nightmares sleeping on my back is great.I think since sleeping on you side is often the fetal position, you are actualy defying you natural state, and thats why your uncomfortable.try using less pillows,Ionly use one on my back, sometimes none.
Hop is is running an experimento on this --Sleeping Positions
But I also have had greater success on my back.
This is just a far fetched guess. Possibly that position has some advantage because you are in a similar position to when you are awake/fully conscious. ...?
I have been sleeping on my back since the beggining of the school year, and now that i think of it, every time i have a lucid dream, i've been sleeping on my side. I can't seem to withstand the buzzing that comes along with SP and HI when i'm going into a lucid dream when sleeping on my back.
I don't know I've had 100's of lucid dreams and never once fell asleep on my back, still it makes sense to me, possible more sleep paralysis too, which is where alot of my lucids come from.
i have definitely noticed this as well.
less than 5% of my WILDS have occured in a position other than on my back. and if i feel SP coming on whilst on my side or stomach (or am experiencing it mildly already), all that is required to quicken the transfer to the dream world is to slowly turn and face upwards.
in many cases, this act immediately triggers full blown SP, and then a WILD.
as far as DILDs go, i rarely notice what position i awake in, as i am busy remembering and categorizing the dream itself.
Wow! This topic is so true! Last night I slept on my back, and I didn't wake up or change position until after about six hours! Plenty of dreams too.
I remember when we (my fam) still owned a Lazy Boy. I couldn't help but to sleep on my back in that...(ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh *falls alseep remembering the Lazy Boy)...chair.......and that's when I experienced SP all the time, I've experienced it MOSTLY when facing up.
A few months ago I started sleeping on my back instead of face-down. I personally haven't noticed an increase in lucid dreams, but this article by the Lucidity Institute mentions a study done on the correlation between sleeping position and lucid dreams, saying, "...people had three times as many lucid dreams when sleeping on their right sides than when sleeping on their left sides. Back sleeping presents a more complicated picture, also seeming to be better than sleeping on the left."

Not a conclusive study, but it's a little more support for us back-sleepers.
Not sure what the reason is, but it's the same for me.
This is just speculation, but it might possibly have something to do with your body and relaxation? Because I know whenever I try to WILD on my side, I get too comfortable and really fall asleep without even noticing it...but when I'm lying on my back, I'm more alert, in a way.
Haven't had a successful WILD yet, but laying on my back is when I've had the best results...
well I snore on my back so I can't sleep like that haha
I sleep on my stomach every night, I don't really believe it has much effect on my lucid dreaming.. I guess I just find it easier to drift off to sleep on my tummy rather than my side or back.
Well I had a series of lds this weekend all sleeping on my back.I was exhausted from the holiday so I passed right out.It sucked though because I havent seen my wife in two monthes because shes in rehab, forgot about the lucid task ,and went straight into turning dream charecter into women.I did try rubbing my hands together for the first time, and was surrprized at the results.alot more lifelike.I wasnt used to that, and woke up a couple of times, but I was able to go right back into it.I think It was also easier to go right back into the LD on my back.Anyone agree,or disagree?
