!i Need A Bit Of Help! Well Accually Quite A Bit

I CANNOT RELAX MY MIND

when ever i try to do anything like WILD or anything where you need to clear you mind i cannot do because when i relax i just end up with thoughts just shooting though my mind and i cannot stop them and so i cannot even attempt WILD because i have no chance of clearing my mind

although i can concentrate easily on anything i want to but even when i do this i still get random thoughts about things and they are usually about the same topic so what do i do to get them to dissapear

any help would be highly appreciated

first, you should attempt to relax your body before your mind. use the 61 point relaxation techinique in the tutorials section.

when your body is sufficiently relaxed, attempt to concentrate just on your breathing. if that doesnt work,

try to count each individual breath. focus on JUST the breath. it would be like:

1 (inhale, exhale.) 2 (inhale, exhale.) 3 (inhale, exhale.)

yeah i have tried this and it makes me relax and i can concentrate on the breathing but the problem is that i cannot clear my mind because i will always have thoughts in my mind and it is affecting me and stopping me from going to the next step in WILDing

ah... what types of thoughts do you keep experiencing? just randomnly all over the place? or in a sequence?

if you cannot effectively shut the thoughts out, i reccommend a different technique.. after all WILD is one of the hardest lucid dreaming techniques to use. try DILD or MILD. good luck!

The way i trained myself to clear my mind during WILD is using a breathing technique i developed:

Imagine your breathing on a graph... it would probably look like a sin curve.

When you are WILDing, change your breathing so after each inhalation you pause for like half a second. Dont concentrate on the breathing, just try to let it flow as naturally as possible. Instead, concentrate on a visual representation of your breathing, ie what it would look like if you were drawing it on a graph of time vs. oxygen.

The graph will eventually blend with the HI and youll soon be seeing some nice HH.

And the irregular breathing will keep you from losing complete awareness.

It works extremely well for me, let me know how you go...

I find that night-time can easily end up being time for me to panic/worry/fret, etc. If you are finding many things occupying your mind, it means that you (or at least, your mind, quasi-consciously) are trying to resolve things. So, the best bit of advice I can give is to try to resolve them.

For me, I will write lists about the things I need to address. In this way, I allow myself to not worry about them before I am dealing with them (after all, I'm not going to forget about it if it is on a big sheet of paper in my face. )
The second thing I do, cheesy as it is, is to use a code word. When I find myself unable to sleep because I'm fretting, or when I find my dreams are about real-life scenarios, I just say the word "adventure." "Adventure" is my code word - a reminder that I want my dreams to be fun, adventure-filled oases.
Something else I do is kind of a (reverse?) meditation. I sit still, quietly, as in mediation, but I let whatever comes into my mind stick for just a short while before letting it pass. In this way, I address the problem inasmuch as I allow myself to not get stressed over it.

If you set aside a time for you to deal with whatever issues are clouding your brain, I guarantee your sleeping will be easier.

Of course, if you aren't really worrying about things, and it's more that completely random unrelated things are clouding your brain, you may want to address this in another way. You can always take the thought coming in, and incorporate it into your dreams (e.g. if you keep thinking about a beautiful girl, or a game system, even a school assignment, you may try to make that part of your dream in a pleasurable way.)

You said it was typically about the same topic, though. This leads me to believe there is an issue in your life that you haven't dealt with (or don't know how to deal with) fully. Try healing that part, and the rest will follow.

A.D.D.? I've got that problem and when I lay down to sleep I literally have hundreds of random off the wall thoughts come into my mind...

I've tried the technique where I picture the thought drifting off in a cloud but when I start to do that the thoughts come faster than I can picture them drifting away, which sucks.. haha

I've got the same problem and I also constantly have music playing in my head... its passive so even as im typing this theres a song going on in my head. Im interested to see what solutions others recommend

i often think about what happend before i left school for christmas holidays

there is a girl i like and on the last day of school she wasnt in and her cousin was cross with me but i dont know why and i havent seen her in 2 weeks so i dont know what it's about and so i have worrys etc etc..

i'm going back to school tomorrow though

When I had my first WILD (unintentionally, mind you) I actually felt my body enter a deeper state of sleep which got me into thinking about meditation... so I read up quite a bit on it and did it very briefly for about 5 minutes today with the use of brainwave generator to generate the right theta frequencies and it cleared my mind like NOTHING else...

basically from the moment I wake up till I go to bed theres always random thoughts in my head and music playing but after meditating I can honestly say my mind has NEVER been this clear before for as long as I can remember... Its much easier to focus and its already been about 2 hours since I stopped meditating (only stopped because the brainwave generator paused briefly and brought me out of my deeper meditation state) and I was just in awe at how deep of a relaxed state I actually was...

my new recommendation (since we both share the same problem) is read up and try meditating... google brainwave generator and try playing with that as well, even though I lack a lot of experience with meditating and what not I feel its already helped me despite having only actually done it once... but you better believe I'll be doing it a whole lot from here on out :)

Meditation is definitely a good solution for jack-rabbit brain syndrome. Some Buddhist friends of mine LD regularly, I assume because they're avid with their meditation practice. :)

this is a really great issue that's been brought up.

i also have music CONSTANTLY playing in my head. meaning, there is never a single second throughout the day that there ISN'T a song in my head. it can be irritating, but i've gotten used to it over time. it sometimes makes it difficult for me to concentrate too. by the way, i have ADHD too, like someone else who posted. i wonder if it's related to that?

i have one technique that works SOMEtimes. not every single time, but it's an idea. first of all, i always sleep with a fan on, even if it's not pointed at me. it's difficult for me to sleep in complete silence. so i've got my fan going, and i notice my thoughts are all over the place. i try to picture what the ocean would sound like. whenever my thoughts start to stray, i just bring it back to the ocean sounds. again, it doesn't always work (and i've never had a WILD), but it at least helps me keep the annoying thoughts/sounds out. and who doesn't love the sound of the ocean?

In response to music constantly playing in your head:

I always have this as well. I may not even have the whole song, but just one bit over and over. The easiest way to take care of it is to listen to the piece of music. Your brain is analyzing and reanalyzing the song because (as I read gosh-knows-where) there is one part it doesn't remember exactly, or one part that doesn't quite make sense to your brain somehow. Wikipedia has a cute little piece on earworms as they are called, including a link to a website that gives you alternatives to get stuck in your head! Whatever works for you :)


All in all, I think it stems from the same thing, that you are trying to work through something as complex as a life scenario, as simple as a musical score (or heck, vice versa.)

i try that sometimes... it's not always a bad thing though... it's helped me be a better musician actually (i'm a musician... duh).

anyway, i really like the idea about picturing your breathing as a graph. i keep getting fed up with WILD's because i'm 0 for god knows how many... but i'm going to keep trying because... well, because DILD'ing is like a crapshoot it seems. anyway, thanks for the tip.

i think my problem (and i'm trying not to stray off topic here) is being able to fall asleep again after WBTB. it always takes forever, so i'm still "playing" with how long i should stay awake before going back to bed.
