I've dabbled in Ericksonian hypnosis, but not for LDing. That a while back now.
My son uses self hypnosis for dealing with stage fright and other things.
I find it can be an incredibly effective tool for some people... not so much for others.
I once downloaded a hypnotism video off the internet and watched that, listened to it and did what it said. I came out of the "trance" all relaxed and happy. It seemed like it worked but then that could just be me wanting it to work so my mind made me feel that way.
It seems like if a person is susceptible to hypnosis, it would be good for inducing lucids. pj, experiment on your son for me. Thanks! :bigteeth:
NeAvO, if you went into a trance, you could probably be hypnotized. I have no idea if I am hypnotizable. I tened to think not, but who knows. There are probably ways to find out; I'll have to research that. Unfortunately, here are no hypnotists anywhere near my zipcode (at least, no licensed ones, according to the Hypnotherapist Society website.) Those sublimnal cd's I've been listening to are part hypnosis too, I guess, but it doesn't seem to do much for me. I want a guy with a swinging watch, saying "next time you dream....you will become lucid....or your money back..."
Yea right!
I don't suppose you asked the therapist to put in a suggestion about lucid dreaming, did you? Hey, is that why you've always got a badge...maybe I could find an un-licensed hypnotist. I wonder if being susceptible makes your MILD, if you practice that, work better.
Nope.. it was to help with stress but she did give me some suggestions on relaxation!
As to my "always" getting a badge.. well that comes from almost 8 years of practicing/studying lucid dreaming.
Sadly, I almost never MILD or DILD.. 98% of my lucids are from using WBTB to WILD.
Moonbeam I happen to know a thing or two about hypnosis/self hypnosis.
I think what your looking for is self hypnosis. I wouldn't trust just anyone to hypnotize you, Thing can happen that you are unaware of that you may not want to have happen.
Self hypnosis can be tricky, what I mean is you have to adapt it to yourself and your nature, what works for one may not work for another.
I'm assuming you want to use hypnosis in order to LD right.
I've used it for many things including the dream realms, it's worked quite well for me. I've been able to have the kind of dreams I wanted to etc. I'm still struggling with it's use for myself to become lucid though.
I've tried self hypnosis for LDs using the "instant self hypnosis" book. I went throught maybe 8-9 sessions and the results are questionable. I had 2-3 LDs in 3 weeks and a couple semi LDs. This is bad, but at the same time pretty impressive considering that i dont keep a DJ and my sleep scheddule is really bad plus I rarely get full 8 hours of sleep. So maybe it worked after all.
I will continue the self hypnosis thingie as it only takes 20 min or so and post more results once I get to 20 sessions or so....
I'm guessing the one by Forbes Blair? Cuz that one's a total rip off.
And also everybody (exclduing abnormal mental condition) is susceptible to hypnosis it's just that the depth of trance varies but you could change that by practicing fractionation.
Yep. I’m all into hypnosis. I even got this plan to log on over 3 hundred hours of inductions or until I've achieve neg. hallucination. So far I've only got less than 5 hrs.
I even have this theory that lucid dreaming is achieved becuz of hypnosis. You get into a trance state to bypass you conscious critcal factor and using autosuggestion establishes the selective thinking or maybe even your expectations itself causes it. The transition from wake to sleep or vice versa is actually a light trance state.
Yes, I meant trying it for LD. Can you recommend a method or book?
I think it is pretty good. I don't do very well the hypnosis CD's, I just kind of listen and hope that it will somehow plant a suggestion in my brain to become lucid. Maybe I'm not trying hard enough.
What is your method?
Hmmm...maybe it just takes a while. Maybe I should try more WILD. DILD is pretty much the only thing that has worked for me; I guess that just means you randomly become lucid! And that is so sporadic for me. I wonder if WILD is really the method you have to master if you want to become really good at LD. What percentage of your WILD's would you estimate are successful?
My main method right now is to just keep fractionating until the desired depth of trance is achieved and then implant the re-induction cue.
I also try to do the inductions when my mind is really sleepy. Like right before sleep or after sleeping for like 4 hours or so.
If I had access to the right kinds of drugs I might even be crazy enough to use them too.
Moonbeam and anybody else who might be interested in these avenues - if the hypnosis stuff doesn't end up helping in the end, we might start a thread on some NLP techniques that might be tried. I don't know why I hadn't thought of this before... I was really into NLP some years ago and have had and seen some amazing results from it. I'd need to brush up a bit first though.
Remind me in a couple weeks, if interested. I'll probably forget.
I'm a total newb, but I've been LD for a very long time. I've also been very interested in hypnosis for a long time, so it was only a matter of time before I attempted to combine the two. :P
First, all hypnosis is "self-hypnosis". One form of hypnosis is when you're driving and your thoughts are a thousand miles away and you suddenly realize you're at "Z" and don't remember passing by "X" or "Y". When you first began driving, you probably remember that you thought about *every* move you were making--how much pressure to put on the gas pedal, how fast you were going, using your turn signal properly, etc. Now, it's become such a second nature that you think about that fight you had with your mother the whole way home and don't even realize you've had to make "X" amount of turns and stops on the way home. At that point, you were in a trance. This is all that hypnosis really is. Simply put, "staring off into space".
[slight t/j] An interesting fact I'll put out there, is that our brains "beat" in the same way that our hearts "beat". Only your brain beats once every 90 minutes. It means that your brain shifts from using its right side to using it's left side and back again. How to know which side your brain is using? Glad you asked. :P One side of your nose is always at least slightly clearer than the other. Why is this relevent to your every day life? If your right side nostril is clearer, it's more of a time to do artistic things because you'll be better at that kind of thing in that moment. If your left side is clearer, it's more of a time when you should be balancing the checkbook, etc.[/end slight t/j]
My reason for mentioning this is that during that second when your brain is beating from one side to the other, you fall into a hypnotic state where you're staring off into space. SO even people who aren't incredibly receptive to hypnosis *still* are able to fall into that state.
Umm where was I going with this? Sorry... I can be so long winded sometimes.
Anyway, I've attempted to use my LD's a few times to get past a phobia I have by chanting a mantra dealing with the phobia... that I do not need it or want it. I still have the phobia. I did this during the time when I wasn't dreaming, but was in a lucid state and everything surrounding me (in the "dream" or whatever you want to call it) was all black.
Hopefully I didn't completely sound stupid just now. I'm going to work on toning down my posts.......
Sorry I haven't had luck using it for LD's I've tried a verity of things.
Self hypnosis is basically self-suggestion amid toward a specific desired result. It's the process of suggestion that counts. I believe thats personal to the individual, since what works for me might not work for you.
I am reluctant to explain because I have a hard time with explanation in writing. I wouldn't want the concept to come out wrong and be misinterpreted or taken wrong. So...
Simply, you would use a positive affirmation through self-suggestion that you will LD.
I really hope this helps.
Oh yes. There's a LOT out there about NLP. It is a modeling system at its root, developed by Bandler and Grinder a while back. That bit is interesting and explains how they came up with the methods employed. The methods themselves are more the RESULT of NLP rather than the tool itself. Some of the best of these methods came from studying the techniques of Milton Erickson, the brilliant hypnotist, Fritz Perls who developed Gestalt therapy, and Virginia Satir, an incredibly consistent and effective family therapist.
NLP stands for Neuro Linguistic Programming. I'm sure a quick search will yield a ton of stuff, some of which may be worthwhile. There are some terrific books out there too... I'm trying to remember one of my favorite authors right now... Gibbons? No... O'Conner. Joseph O'Conner. (I corresponded with him years ago - you'd think I could remember his name!)
I wasn't going to get into this now... but here's why I think it should be useful. I've pointed out before how everything we "experience" is nothing more than a representation - a map, if you will - which we build and maintain in our brains based on sensory input. We build the maps... and we can modify the maps. Responses are mapped, and responses are the key to all of this. Most of NLP is about "reprogramming" the map to bring about desired responses or get rid of those that aren't desirable.
So why not create a mapping that consistently ties the dream state to recognition of that dream state? That's really what we are trying to do anyway with all the reality checks and all else. NLP provides a "toolkit" to do just that.
This really needs to be a new thread... and again, I'm years out of touch on this stuff and really don't have the time to get into it in any depth right now. That's a good teaser though - and there is more than enough info "out there" that you don't need me anyway. I'd really rather participate in an experiment or series of discussions than try to teach it, as my qualifications aren't all that great.
I'd sure love to get my map straightened out! Three LDs or less in a month just isn't cutting it for me.
Great, thanks! I never heard of that. I'll get started looking, after I read maybe we can talk about it.
