in ETWOLD (Exploring the World of Lucid Dreaming... is that an accepted acronym here?), dr. laberge states that something like 75% of all LD's are from MILD/DILD and only a few are from WILD. this was one of the studies they did of 100 LD's by various subjects (or maybe all 100 were done by him... don't remember). i don't remember the exact numbers and i don't feel like looking them up, but it was roughly 75/25. so my question is this... it seems like EVERYTHING i read on this site is related to WILD's... a few on FILD's (which i tried everyday for about 2 weeks and i just can't fall back asleep quickly enough to do them). all of my LD's have been DILD's, but it seems like MILD/DILD gets the short end of the stick in a lot of threads. any idea why?
ok, i'm going to sleep now, and DAMN IT i'm GOING to have a LD tonight. i'll post my super duper awesome dream tomorrow.

the reason WILD gets so much attention is simple.
when you figure out how to do it, you can induce LDs at will. meaning whenever you want to, wake up in the night and BOOM. lucid dream.
so naturally everyone wants to know how to do it because it is probably the most reliable method once you get it working.

Firstly ETWOLD is an accepted acronym around here and is used often. Yeah as hellopotato said WILDs are useful when mastered but they are incredibly hard to do, most people can't achieve lucidity with them. Where as the DILD is easier but isn't always reliable.

We normally refer to it as EWOLD, though ETWOLD gets the same messege across.
Just adding, another reason is most people who have Lucid Dreams do so through DILDs as its the easiest and most common. People who have no idea what lucid dreams are, ussually don't WILD as for the most part they don't know what WILDing is. So when they have a Lucid, its almost certain to have been a DILD. WILDs are also VERY hard to get the hang of.

I always use FILD, but I think it is a variation of the WILD (cuz you also go from the wake state into the lucid state).
In my opinion WILD's are more exciting then DILD's. Instead of going to 'sleep', you don't go to 'sleep' when WILDing. You just enter your dream.

but i do have a question- once i master WILD, how long would it take if i could actually doit? i mean i need to get some sleep, coz lately i dont get enough.

I DILD'ed for years. Never knew about WILDs until I joined here. I tried for 3 weeks, different times of the day... right at night, WBTB, Afternoon naps, etc.
Finally did a WILD one night right after bed. (Even woke up right after and posted about it.. it was SOOO COOL!)
I did another later that week in an afternoon nap. Again, so cool. It also helped stop my sort of DILD dry spell.. had a few DILDs since then.
What's cool, as stated, is you go right into the dream. It may feel weird at first.. because you know you're dreaming right away.. the first time I wasn't sure, and thought I was still in bed trying to WILD. Then a voice from the dream world said "Open your eyes!" I remember thinking "no, if I do I'll wake up and have to start all over again..." but it worked!
Also with WILDs, I've found you start out "where you are" in real life.. in bed, on the couch, etc. At least most of the time.
I've only had 2 WILDs so far... I wouldn't say I can induce them at will. Sometimes I'm too tired and fall asleep (have to work on the willpower part of staying awake). It seems like if I'm just the right amount of "tired" it made it easier. Not too tired, but not wide awake either.
Relaxing slowing from head to toe is fun.. when I'm too tired, I fall asleep before I can make it to my feet.. lol
