ok... I don't know if anyones thought of it yet but what I'm doing is giving fantastic results. I simply RC everytime I enter a room... its great cause my dreams are never in one room the entire time. of course that is alot of RCs per day... but I've been having a ton of LDs thanks to it... I really recommend trying it.
Hey that's a really good idea! I guess you would get into a habit really quickly too. I'll have a go at this.

Yup. I have been doing this recently myself, and I can certainly confirm that it works extremely well.
So what kind of RC do you use? Finger-through-hand, the nose check, or something else?
I can't tell if that last post was sarcasm or not.
I usually do a nose plug... unless people are around, then I do a mental check.
Now that's a lot of RCs, lol. It would work, but are you sure you could stand to do an RC everytime you made the slightest bit of advancement in you day?
:bigteeth: I was just about to post a topic about this, my friend gave me the idea. I do a reality check whenever I see one of my dreamsigns, but now I also do one whenever I walk through a doorway, or go up or down stairs. I just started today though so I'm only hoping it will work. Seems like a great idea though.
I've been using a method some what similar. It gives fantastic results if you just reality check before opening a door. Simply walk toward the door but before opening it, mentally ask yourself if you are dreaming. Then imagine someone on the other end of the door, and upon opening it will be the reality check. This can become a habit every time you open a door.

Yeah thats a very simple, but yet brilliant idea thanks Metcalfracing. The simple methods like this are usually the ones that work the best.
I've seen this suggested before, but never carried out properly, and it's really great that you're getting results. The only thing I question, is how long before you burn out, and get so tired of RCing everytime you enter a room. I had a streak of LDs from doing tons of RCs a while ago, and since the streak ended, i've had maybe 3 lds, but then again I think I am just not motivated enough, and need some motivation to get back to it. Worries aside, if you are able to keep what you are doing up for a while, and don't get bored, then you have a great technique for yourself.Quote:

Well after like 28 days things become a subconsious habbit, maybe it will be anoying for a while, but after that ammount of time of doing it diligantily it will be second nature, you wont even think about it. (That could lead to problems though)
I wonder why it works so well if all your dreams are outdoors? :S Mine are too usually
I read this yesterday and thought it was a great idea. Although, I don't find myself ENTERing rooms when I'm dream, I can imagine seeing myself in an unfamiliar room and doing a reality check.
Unfortunately, I'm a very forgetful person and I walk around my house a lot; for some reason I can keep consistent with it. I'll give it a shot for a few weeks though and see how it works for me.

This actually sounds like quite a good idea :) I mean, rooms are things we see lots of in dreams so this method should work well... How long have you been doing the RC' for?Quote:

I think the best triggers you can choose to do RC's for (like walking through doorways) are the actions or scenarios you engage in a lot, but never think about. You have to take some time to stretch your scope of possible RC triggers, rather than just having it be something like a specific person, or your cat, etc. That's why something like walking through doorways is really good.
For example, I went to my dream journal to find a good RC trigger, and rather than choosing something like my girlfriend, I chose something by broadening my perspective on what was really going on in my dreams.
I had to rule out doorways for now because I personally don't go through many in my dreams... Sometimes I'm in one room, then another, and then most of the time I'm just outside.
I decided that a broad characteristic of my dreams is that I'm hardly ever alone; there are almost always other people in my dreams. I could do a reality check everytime I see someone for the first time, but I decided that doing that is a little too complicated as to when and how exactly I should remember to do a RC.
For me, and what I would assume would work well for many people, is to do a RC everytime I walk a considerable distance, and use that as an RC trigger. So I dont mean I should do an RC everytime I move across a room, but I could start doing RCs whenever I walk a considerable distance from one place to another. Like walking to the bathroom or kitchen. Walking to the door. Walking to class (I'm on a college campus). Walking to my car. Etc.
Hope this makes for a valuable technique.
I have had no luck with this method. Now I do RC's by trying to constatnly be aware of where I am and What I am doing. Then If something seems odd (or doesn't) I do a RC.

Well, it didn't work for me. Because I lot of my dreams are outdoors, and when I'm inside I don't often go through doors, I just go to a different room.Quote:

Hey people,
I too am wondering what to base my RCs on. I know most of my dreams involve school based scenarios, but when I'm at school in real life it's too busy to remember to RC all the time.
I tried writing RC on my hand, but somehow I doubt that I'd have it written on my hand in a dream.
Even then, I doubt I would look at my hand either...
Any ideas?
Ps, I've heard that RCs count more if you first say you are in a dream and the RC prooves you're in real life.
And is it really quantity, not quaility? (it's just that if I kep reminding myself to RC all the time, I'd go crazy... that and I forget to do them...)
You don't have to look at your hand to *do* a RC. But if you had it written on your hand, it would give you a chance to look at something else to do a RC. In school, I was constantly checking the clock. I still today check the clock ALL of the time, so that's when I mostly do my RC's. So if you want to, write 'RC' on your hand, then when you happen to notice it, do a RC by looking at a clock.Quote:

The issue that I'm having with a lot of these methods is... you'll be in public while doing this. I don't want to be labeled as the wierd guy who picks his nose a lot. Thus, why I do it while exiting/entering a room... it happens a lot in dreams and its inconspicuous. In fact, if there are people in the room I usually just use a mental one. It takes longer, but with less effort. It just seems to me, adding more RCs would help for people that it isn't already helping, but I'm doing fine with what I'm doing now.
Oh, and if the door is closed when I come to it, I imagine something on the other side and try to press my hand through it before I grab the nob. This works especially well when your about to enter a restaurant or a public building.

Mental checks aren't as reliable as physical checks, and they may fail more often. I think the more reliable mental checks are those like looking at a clock and seeing if the numbers change oddly when you look away and look back, or looking at text and seeing if it changes oddly when you look back. Also, try looking at the back of your hands, looking for any oddities there, and if there are any oddities, make sure you can logically explain them completely, as if you can't you're probably dreaming and should do another more conclusive test. Also, when you RC, make sure that you do it very carefully and thoroughly, so that you do not make a dumb mistake like "I have eighteen fingers like always, not dreaming", and then wake up pissed off (though it probably will be a little less obvious than that).Quote:

I have an idea for subtly modifying this method to get around both the problem of doing reliable RCs in public, and also the possibility that most of your dreams are out-doors.
Instead of saying that you will do an RC every time you enter a room, say instead that you will do an RC for every room that you are in. In other words, if I'm in the kitchen and I walk into the dining room, I'm now "obligated," as it were, to perform an RC before I exit that room - preferably right away, but not necessarily. If I'm in a public place, I can either wait until I don't feel embarrassed to do the nose RC, or otherwise discretely examine my hands and see if I can push them through each other - remember, a good RC requires both that you seriously consider that you might be dreaming, and also that you perform a tangible test. Likewise, if I walk outside or I walk inside, that counts as changing location, as well as, say, entering or exiting a car, or a significant change of location while outside (you could add or remove from that list depending on what you think is necessary).
While the delay in performing an RC may seem unwise at first, I have a feeling that after doing this for a while you will eventually begin to get a mental "itch" every time you enter a new room, that can only be scratched by RCing. I can compare it to the fact that every time I go to the bathroom, afterwards my hands feel dirty until I wash them - even if they're not dirty at all - which makes it so that I never forget to wash my hands before exiting a bathroom.
That was perhaps a not very elegant analogy, but it fits the bill.
thats what I do, every time I find myself in a new place I RC.
Good idea metcalfracing, I read on The Lucidity Institute's forum that they do a similar thing during their lucidity bootcamps.
To increase awareness, everytime they walk through a doorway they are supposed to think 'doors of perception' and/or touch the doorway, keeping a tally through the day of how many they missed.
That's just supposed to increase awareness, so doing a reality check would be even better I'd imagine.
However I'm lazy, touching the doorway sounds easier!
Very Interresting. I see very well how this Could work.
For you perhaps it is best to do an RC uppon entering a Room, since you say you frequently leave and enter different rooms in your Dreams.
Maybe we can think of things that are even more common in Dreams.
For me that'd have to be:
-Being with friends (RCing everytime I meet a friend)
-When you're in a place you haven't been before (happens all the time in my dreams)
-When I'm at some event/festival/party (happens all the time in my dreams)
-When I feel Fear; From only a little fear to extreme anxiety (Fear is very common in Dreams)
etc...
How about that? Can some of you help me expand this list? What things/actions/situations/sensations/emotions..etc do you encounter in basically every dream?

Recently I noticed that often in the morning I had my bladder full, and every now and then it entered my dreams. In my dreams I was pissing :D (not mechanically, only dreaming about it) I'm sure it's pretty common anyways. So I decided to RC every time I piss. This actually worked for me, 2 days after starting :D just drink a bit in the evening and it will work wonders. I've had 3 lucids in one week after starting this.
Room entering one is great aswell I would imagine, as entering a room is more common than pissing :)
