I got this book- The Everything Dreams Book. It has a lot about interpretation, lucid dreaming, obe, power dreaming, etc. It got me motivated to learn obe and to try wild, as it had a section about LaBrege and MILD and WILD. It said you could do a wild before sleep. If I were to do that with counting on every breath, how long would that take?I know it varies from person to person, but I am asking for an average amount of time.
This is just a guess, based on what I've seen on the forum and from PMs, but I'm guessing 1-2 months is about the average for your first WILD. It took me three months of trying everye night, but some people to it within the first week.
The key is to stay committed to the process. Often, even though you fail at WILD, you will find yourself lucid anyway during the night. Kind of a MILD thing :)
Technically, you can WILD at the beginning of the night but dreams at the very onset of the night's sleep are generally very brief, flighty and not very vivid. They are basically glorified HI (Though, mid-day naps are said to be a different story in many cases. I've never had the luxury of finding out for myself.). Your efforts may be mis-focused if you try it that way. However, as Seeker pointed out, it could very well set the stage for a MILD later that night. Any attention to dreams and LDing is good as far as I'm concerned, as long as you're not so engulfed that it's working against you. (Remember, getting stressed about it is counter-productive).Quote:

Personally, I have best WILD luck when combined with WBTB. I awaken (by gentle alarm) about 5 3/4 - 6 1/4 hours after I go to sleep. Your optimal time may vary. The idea is to catch a REM period - or possibly slightly before - so that your brain is already in that mode when you perform WILD. That's the best way to enter a dream directly from the waking state.
