Tonight I plan on going to bed at midnight, getting up at 5:00am, then staying up for 20 minutes. I will then perform FILD. Does this sound good, or is FILD not meant to be used with WBTB?

I don't think that FILD would work good with WBTB.
I mean, I haven't tried it, but I just couldn't see it working.
You can go ahead and try it, but I would just stick to what works best.
You can still set your alarm to wake you up to perform a normal FILD.
Try WBTB, but don't stay up for more than a few minutes. FILD works good when your real tired
