Calling all meditators... (more help with FILD?)

I'm sure other posts like this exist but I could not find them on the search feature...

Anyway, for all those who meditate, how have you adapted your practice to give you more lucid dreams. How have you used it to strengthen various intentions regarding your LD methods?

I am posting this because I've been an avid meditator for several years but recently have noticed that I still lack the self-control to follow through with my LDing intentions.

For example, I have been trying the FILD technique for several weeks, even designign a hand alarm so that I could wake up but then go back to sleep right away. Unfortunately, when I do become conscious enough to start moving my fingers I then don't fall asleep and then as soon as I stop moving I fall asleep. This lack of control is really frustrating and I feel like I should be able to correct it through meditating.

Does anyone have any advice?

I meditate a few times a week, would by no means call myself a regular meditator. I've tried FILD several times and got it to work once. From the one successful experience my advice is to -

- use whatever sleep position you usually fall asleep in (i.e if it is a really strange position, still go with that)
- make sure you do it in the middle of the night when you are VERY tired and will fall back asleep at any instant,
- prop up your hand that will be doing the finger motion in some way so the motion doesnt rub against the bed/pillow etc

just some ideas. Let me know how you go!

I did it once on my first try but failed on my second (last night). When it worked my first time I was incredibly tired and very very close to falling asleep. The FILD technique popped into my head at the last moment and I moved my fingers a couple times without thinking about it much at all..I pretty much just focused on the movement.

The technique I think is just another way of keeping you conscious while your body falls asleep. It's easier for me to use because when I try to keep myself awake in my head (i.e. 1 I'm dreaming..2 I'm dreaming..etc) my thoughts tend to trail and I just fall asleep. If I'm doing a small movement that's physical I can focus my attention on that while I fall asleep.

No, I don't use it to strenghten intentions. If you read on the subject of Tibetan Dream yoga, you will understand that their meditation has to do with quieting of the mind and focus. Not getting distracted by miscellaneous thoughts running through your mind. The better you get at that, the less likely you will become distracted by the unreasonable events and emotions in your dreams. As a result, you are less likely to be consumed by the dream fantasy - and hence obtain awareness.
