Not fully sure i was lucid

Ok i have been trying to recognize signs in dreams for a short while now, i tent to nip my nose closed and try to breath through it when im drifting off to test, someone told me when you are dreaming you can often breath through your nose when doing this.

So last night i went to bed around 12:00, i then woke up at 5:15 and got a drink, upon returning to bed i tried the nose thing again and after a few times drifting off i could breath through my nose plugged, my immediate thought was to try a light switch and the next thing i knew i was crouched at the top of the stairs flicking the light switch with no success.

Now even though i had tried these two dream sign i never thought to myself "Hold on, im dreaming" my mind just quickly shifted and i was walking down the street with my parents. So is it possible i was just dreaming about being lucid? or could i actually have been close to lucid and not fully realized it?

If at any point you knew you were dreaming, you were lucid.

Sounds like very low-level lucidity at best. But you should be glad that you actually performed the test in the dream so you're most definitely on the road to success. :banana:

It's definititely possible to fail a Reality Check and still not become lucid. You'll go "Whoa 6 fingers?", then cut one off and continue doing your business.

Generally you can be considered lucid if you have the conscious thought "Holy cow, this is a dream and I am the dreamer".
From my experience, when I go lucid, it's totally different then before and there's no doubt when I wake up, that I was lucid. It is a conscious realization that totally alters your perception. I go lucid and everything becomes insanely real and crisp. Also consciousness kicks in and you actually feel a strong sense of identity. This makes remembering easier as well.

So, since you didn't actually realize you were dreaming I'd say you weren't really lucid. Before my first lucid, I had a couple of those dreams where I'd see a dream sign and just think "Man, this is like in this one dream I had", and then just go on. Stick to your procedure, you'll have success soon enough.

Yeah i found the site a few days ago and decided to post after last nights dream, for some reason i can remember ALOT about last nights dreams but had no control, i was driving a car at one point and the steering would not work, the car was from a game i had been playing on my xbox during the day.

I have been reading some peoples posts about thier LD's and am finding this more and more amazing.

Do you ever feel bummed out after an LD because all the fun stuff you just did was a dream?

How does it matter? :) It still feels real. It's still super fun. Apart from that, it's only the present moment that you can experience, so you could feel quite the same about waking reality. Also LDs can have a profound influence on your waking life.


I rather think that when you wake up after a cool normal dream, you tend to think "Damn, t'was only a dream". You never realized until you woke up so it takes all the fun out of the dream because while you were dreaming you actually thought it's real. Your happiness in the dream depended on your belief that it's completely real. But if you go lucid while you're dreaming you actually know that it's only a dream so you can enjoy the dream to the fullest and often you'll wake up with a feeling of deep happiness. Your measure of happiness will then be reshifted with being lucid.

It sounds really fun :) iv had dreams where iv got things and woke up then realized DAMN! it was a dream, but i suppose like you said when your lucid you know its a dream, thanks :D
