Breath Focus Help

I don't know why, but I have a bit of trouble with focusing on my breathing. I focus on it TOO much and I start to either get distracted or think about how I could focus my breathing which doesn't get me relaxed.

Does anybody have a special way? Like pretending to breathe in to different parts of the body? Or waves of breathing? I don't know. I'm thinking about it way too much and it's getting hard for me to WILD. I start either breathing really deeply, skip breathe, or forget to breathe at all!

I'm no expert on WILDing, but from what I've gathered it's about keeping your mind focused. Focusing on breathing can be practiced through meditation. Once you notice your thoughts going somewhere else, acknowledge them (don't judge them), and focus on your breathing again. In time you will be able to focus better. As for deep breathing, that doesn't seem to be a bad thing to me. Just means your body is getting relaxed, non?

I prefer to breath into 100 (by then your feeling pretty numb for me anyway) then switch to thinking Im on a beach and feel the wind (or telling myself I feel it) and that relaxes me more. The breathing relaxation just gets me bored around 200-250 breaths

Simply dont have problems with it... Thats what i can tell you. It is easier to tell, but harder to achieve. If you search for help, people often tell you to do something, or not. And the easiest way how to achieve it is to try it. You already know this for sure. You may try two means of approach:
1. Force your brain into breathing. And you will feel the results. Big measure from your side automatically invokes big measure from your subconscious. And there will be many thoughts coming into your head. You will have to have biiiiig and strong "willpower" to dismiss the thoughts. Which you probably dont have.

2. Start doing it and be an observer. Enjoy the tricks which brain tryes to distract you from what you are currently doing. Just observe and calmly decide to persist. Still feel like a observer. This is something like ignoring what happens. Just give the problems the attention they deserve {not more...you decide} and then... let them go. Now the breathing is what deserves attention most, so you just let other things go as unimportant and as if they were no fun.

After doing second approach. Your brain will find out, that you are serious about what you are doing. It will not question what you are doing as much {expect some recidive each time} as it questioned at the beginning. And this way you will build a confidence and so called willpower.

So this might be pretty interesting. .. Willpower is the power to let everything unimportant go... and not the feeling : I am the king.

So be slow and persistant. Have fun observing your brain reactions but calmly return to what you are doing after you get distracted. Smile, enjoy. And dont think about techniques as if they would bring you into WILD. THink of the wild as if it would come in time if it wants.

Let me just get a brief analysis on what you say. And dont get into fury after you read this ;).
I don't know why.... This is pretty interesting. You are probably confused. Thats pretty normal, when conscious fights with subconscious.
I have little trouble with focusing on my breating... Trouble. Thats becouse you are fighting. Forget the fight and think of it as of collaboration with partner which needs time to understand you. You must think of it as of collaboration. Or you will fight senseless fight.
I focus on it TOO much... I dont think, you are focusing too much. It is probably becouse you are controlling too much. But the observer stance will help, believe me. I've had this problem too. {and sometimes it reccurs}.
I start to either get distracted... Of course. If you use your mental power too much, you will loose mental stamina. And this distracts. Goal is to observe, not to controll. Goal is not to be angry when you get distracted, but to return where you want to be and be happy that brain was clever enough to tell you, that you were not where you wanted.
...or think about how I could focus my breathing... And now you probably know, how you would analyse this one. :D

Forgive me the way I analysed your words, but you know... If it helps. I will be happy even if you are not happy with the answer :D

Sorry. One more thing. Lots of people underevaluate the meaning of preparation. You need to prepare for this exercise aligning your conscious and subconscious. You know. IF your brain wants to think about day concerns, it might get pretty angry if you try to force it to think about lucids and breathing. First of all. It is wise to get comfortable. Second. Give the subconscious a minute {not more} to talk with you about what it wishes to do. {and tell the brain it has minute}. End the chat with subconscious telling that you are happy to know, what it wants. {this is the first part of alignment}. And then you present what you want. You should have no problems with internal agreement now, becouse you have given time for your inner self to tell you what it wanted to say.

And now start with whatever you wish.

Wow. Took me a few reads to understand that. Well you obviously know what you're talking about, (Don't worry, I'm not mad:)) I guess I didn't put enough information in my first post. I'm not really fighting it. I guess I'm more confused about what to do. I'll try what you talked about.

Sorry. I was just talking metaphorically. Sometimes my view of reality is different than view of others.

Btw. Have you found some interesting technique, which helped?

Stop all internal thoughts before focusing on breathing. Then once your mind is quieted, start to focus on your breathing, just gently on the edge of your consciousness. Focusing on your breathing is an excercise that is mainly used to keep the mind fully quieted and helps ward off distracting thoughts.

You don't necessarily have to breathe deep, unless there is a specific technique you are doing.
Just feel your breath, flow through your lungs and down into your stomach, then feel the gentle transition as it changes from in to out.

Don't let any thoughts enter this focus, you are the master of your mind... it does not control you, you control it.
