Help me discover a good RC for myself

I am having trouble with RCs. So far, I have trained myself to check time frequently throughout the day and to look at my hands, but.....

I have never seen a clock / watch in my dreams. I have never seen numbers. I have never seen text.

The one time that I tried counting fingers and checking if I could push my finger through my palm, the check passed. I told myself "Nope, not a dream" and I immediately woke up.

So, it seems to me that the most common / easiest reality checks to perform are the ones I am having the hardest time with.

Any other suggestions?

best one and most reliable that i've used is hold your nose and tried to breath in. If you can't breath in your not dreaming. If you hold your nose and you can breath in well then your obviously dreaming.

I used to try and use the clock RC and stuff like that but the nose method is simply the best in my eyes.

I wear a watch ALL the time ... even when Im sleeping. And I made it a habit to check the time twice first thing after I wake up. This always works for me as an RC when I have false awakenings.

Maybe I just need more time with the watch. Mine never leaves my wrist - never ever, but I have not once seen it in a dream. Every time I check it, it always reads true.

The reason that the reality checks are failing could be because you are not taking them seriously enough which will pass over to the dream state which = failed reality checks. This used to happen to me alot when i would perform them without really thinking about it and not taking the reality check seriously.

So that could be the problem. Btw i think the most reliable is the finger counting reality check.

cmon..there is no such thing as reality check...
all those not stupid rc - lick your nose with tongue... close left eye.. and so on.. - are scoff..
you just dont get it do you? :)

when ever you remember to do an RC do this

1 realize what you were currently doing

2 say to yourself " hey my body and my mind is doin this!(eating, walking, thinking of how they make cheez-its, etc.)

3 detatch yourself from your own thoughts, so you are viewing your thoughts, body, and actions like a movie.

4 do that for how long you can, 30 sec, 1 min, 5 min, whatever as long as its not too short.

and thats it after that

this works because you are realizing what your mind thinks about, not only just your physical presence.

Okay, this is the simple reality check I use:

Simply think to yourself "Is this a dream? What am I doing right now? Where was I before? Where am I going? What day/time is it?"

Asking yourself these questions should easily reveal if you are dreaming or not.

But CAUTION: You DO want this reality check to become a habit; however, you DO NOT want the answer "no" to become part of the habit. In other words, every time you do the reality check, you need to really fully and completely question if you are dreaming and really think about it, otherwise you may end up passing off countless dreams as reality and missing tons of chances to attain lucidity.

Another thing i find very effective is to on numerous occasions throughout the day have a flash of alertness. By this i mean suddenly stop whatever you are doing, ask yourself if this is a dream and observe your surroundings.

I think the advantage this has over a reality check is that with this you can become instantly lucid because you will have a sudden awareness in the dream and on many occasions you won't have to observe your surroundings or anything else, you will become instantly lucid.
