is this a WILD?
lately I've been having experiences where I'll wake up from a dream - either lucid or not - and I don't open my eyes...I know I'm awake and I'll see my bedrrom if I open them but I keep them closed and I start imagining that I'm looking at my hands. pretty soon they start appearing - I can actually see them like I'm looking at my real hands. then more of the dream world starts materializing and I start dreaming again, but I'm not always lucid. is this what a WILD is? this never ever happens to me if I'm trying to fall asleep at night, it's usually early in the morning after a REM period.

Thats exactly what a WILD is. Actually, what your describing is the DEILD variant of the WILD method. Dream Exit Induced Lucid Dream(Also sometimes called "Dream Re-Entry")

Sounds like this here.
I think it's some form of a WILD.
I'm no expert though, so don't take my word for it.
EDIT: Awwwww Exo beat me to it. :D
I was right though!

Yea, that's like a mix of VILD/HIT and Re-entry... Make sure that you keep your mind awake and consciously pass into the dream so you don't lose lucidity.

Once i did the very same thing!
I had just woken up, and i closed my eyes, and tried to visualize my hands. And i moved them at will. When they looked real enough (keeping in mind it wasn't real), i begun clapping them. When they felt real enough, i was dreaming (i was in a courthouse), and very aware.
For a moment i doubted i was dreaming, because it feelt too real, but i've made the rule that if i'm in doubt, i should assume i'm dreaming. I never doubt when i'm awake.
