Dream journal & meditation -> awareness -> LD
I sometimes keep a dream journal but I know a lot of people don’t. I would like to encourage others to keep one if they are serious about Lding though. The reason is “awareness.” To me, without awareness there will be no lucid dream. If a person has a little awareness they will be able to remember a dream better. More awareness will equal wondering if one is dreaming. Even more awareness lets a person know they are dreaming and start to control it. It doesn’t stop there though. Even within the dream, the more awareness a person can muster up, the longer, clearer, and more intense the dream will be. In a way, awareness is almost like juice for a “dream muscle.”
There are other ways to increase awareness though. One can just become in touch with the senses during the day taking time to see the beauty, smell the freshness, taste the spice, and, feel the texture of life.
A third and to me maybe even more important way to increase awareness is through meditation. Many different disciplines have rich meditation traditions to draw from and as far as I am concerned most if not all of the big established meditation traditions have a lot to offer. In fact, many of my first experiences with lucid dreaming came as a result of dozing off during meditation. I would also be willing to assume that if there was a poll taken that the heavy-duty lucid dreamers on this board are much more likely to either meditate regularly or have tried so in the past.
