I don't think so, I've had lucid dreams hours after having sex. As long as your bed is big enough to comfortably sleep next to your partner.
but how to improve recall except writing down them?
Just lay in bed and replay the last dream that you had in your head before getting up. You could also use a recorder and just describe your dreams on an mp3 or something.
