In the WBTB method,you sleep for 5 hours or so and then you have to wake yourself completly up and write in your dream journal,read about lucid dreaming ect. for an hour or so. But I am not the type of person that can fall asleep when I am not tired. So,after I went back to bed,I wouldn't not fall asleep for probably a long time,since I am completly awake. What should I do? Please help.
Heres a solution: Wake up for a shorter amount time and go to bed sooner. Works for me half of the time. I think what happens is that I expect my self to have a lucid dream a particular night and no matter how short I stay up I still have several lucid dreams. Try this and let me know how it works for you.
Also, you don't have to do MILD, WILD, or HILD when you are doing WBTB. It helps but for me I found that I don't need to do it.
So try to stay out of bed shorter and see how that works.
I'll try it but I'm not sure it will work beacause once I'm out of bed,its really hard to get back to sleep.
Try staying in bed and not getting out. Then try to go back to sleep. That works for me too.
Well,then what do I do? Just lay there? I always do that when I wake up at night and I havn't had a lucid dream.
I think everyone here needs to learn how to go to sleep. Maybe everyones gettin too excited, or too ahead of themselves. I jsut lay there, dont stress, and asleep I go. And with only 5 hours of sleep my bodies still tired. My guess is most of you would be able to sleep fine if it weren't for the fact that you were trying to sleep.
I have been having trouble falling asleep forever. I just can't stop thinking "gotta go to sleep"
How long do you take to fall back to sleep. Are there any drinks you can drink to make you tired. Anyone have any suggestions.
What if you try a sleeping pill? Just a suggestion.
It takes me usually an hour or more to fall asleep at night. umm...I don't like warm milk(eww) or tea(someone suggested that)
I'm on enough medication as it is. I don't think my parents would let me take anything else. :P
Hmm, try not waking up just staying asleep. I should rename it the Bed Method. LOL.
I tend to wake up several times during the night and I sometimes have spontaneous ld's.
Any other suggestions anyone might have?

taking melatonin at night keeps me tired when I wake up after just 5 hours. When I take 3mg I stay a bit tired physically for 8 hours at least. Thats a bit more natural, and maybe you coud try that. Of course its good to figure out a way to fall aleep without any pills. When I was an insomniac back in the day, I used relaxing music. Used to be the only way I could fall asleep. Id put in a cd and fall asleep usually half-way thorugh it. And by the time I got used to doing that, Id fall asleep after just one song.
My parents don't want me to become dependent on medication so they would never let me take sleeping pills.
Well if it takes you an hour to fall asleep, that's really not a problem. Most of the people here are teenagers, which I think is the reason they have trouble falling asleep. Just DON'T think "I have to fall asleep." Why would you think that unless you had something URGENT to go to early in the morning?

I think he means, right when you wake up, dont move, close your eyes and think lucid, or stay aware. You can have WILD's like that sometimes or just get lucid right after the dream starts. Might be a good idea for someone who has trouble falling back asleep.Quote:

I think "I have to fall asleep" because I have school in the morning(during the school time) and my dad nags me and nags me to get up int the morning and I am usually really tired and not ready to get up because I couldn't stop falling asleep. Plus,if I don't get enough sleep,I get a headache.

try looking at messsage boards during the day and when you go asleep you dont even ahve to get out of bed, just stay in bed and try your best to be calm and fall asleep again. This works for me like half of the time i do it.

I'm thinking that I will be able to become lucid tonight since last night,I told myself "remember your dream" and I did!!! And I havn't in a really long time. So if I tell myself to become lucid then maybe I'll become lucid. Or,if I keep reminding myself next time I see one of my dream signs,I'm dreaming then I can become lucid.
Exaclty you are on the right track. Your expecting to have a lucid dream plays a key role in having a lucid dream. Thats why I think the WBTB works well for me even if I dont do a mild or wild after I wake up. Cuz I am setting my self up for a lucid dream by thinking in advance and also by reading about articles online that helps.

With all of these 13 year olds on the forum you're quite old. Im 19 myself. I rememebr when I was younger I had bad insomnia and later learned that its very common to go through that during pueberty with all those damn chemicals raging through the body at night.Quote:

I think thiers different levels of insomnia. If you had NO sleep, you would be legally insane.
Beleive me,they were not insane. They were in my GATE class(gifted and talented education)
I'm not challenging this guys intellegence. But if you do not sleep at all, I don't care how gifted you are you will lose your mind. The body needs some sleep.
Oh sleeping is so yummy. :-P Unless you sleep too long. Then that screws with your mind. lol

Well,I still don't think I have insomia. I get enough sleep and stuff. It just takes me a while. Plus,I'm pretty sure this guy didn't get any sleep for a looooonnnng time. But i dunno.. your probably right . I mean,the body does need SOME sleep.

Just thought I'd jump in here with a tip:
I used to have trouble falling asleep through my teens and early 20's too. I don't recommend using pills, especially things like melatonin. When you're young, your body should be producing plenty of melatonin already.
I recommend learning self-hypnosis. It's cheap (it's free actually), it's easy, it's safe, and it's effective if you practice it enough. There's tons of good books at Amazon for S.H. But a great intro for newbies is "The Idiot's Guide to Hypnosis."

I give this tip to people because it worked for me. When I was in my early teens I had hella hard times falling asleep. I'd lie awake for up to two hours staring at the ceiling above my room.
The solution was that I started listening to music/the radio every night when I went to bed. (Or if you like to read get a few of those recorded books lol) A few months later I started to fall asleep easier, in around 30 minutes to an hour. Now I don't even need the radio anymore. ;)
It could just be a phase we all go through where your metabolism is too high or something. But listening to stuff really helped.

And also yes, there are different levels of insomnia. Serious insomnia leads to sleep deprivation which can cause death and extreme fatigue.

EDIT: Oh yes on the original question. Just don't stay up long. Get up, open your window. Do something menial. Then go back to bed. If you wake up way earlier then you are used to you won't have any trouble getting back to sleep.
You should take big deep breaths so that you hyperventilate. You'll get lightheaded and dizzy and most likely fall alseep. ;)

I used to think my parents would never buy me anything.. even when they bought me whatever I wanted, I'd still be like, "No, they'll never get me that." ;)
Why wouldn't they get you a book? I'm sure they'd want to help you sleep properly.
I dunno...maybe. I really want a lucid dreaming book too. I'll ask for them for Christmas....(my parents don't buy me anything...but maybe books..?) :P
