It's difficult... I think the experts will say, if you practice enough and adjust the techniques to work for you, than you will be successful...
It's difficult for some and natural for others.
WILD is very very hard for some, a select lucky few seem to have the right formula going to get good at it.
I beleive those who are good at WILD naturally usualy gained the skill throughout growing up indirectly, maybe they think with senses and are very good at visualizing, if you do it your whole life it becomes very natural and easy. Then there are those who as a child frequently fell asleep well their mind is still awake, if it happens once it's much more likely to happen again and it probably did. Either case is very lucky, I know people in both catogories, who told me they developed it in childhood as long as they can remember.
Its hard for me, although I think I did one once, I had been lying there for about 30 minutes then the HI stopped, and, thinking I had failed, I checked the clock and went back to sleep. I didnt notice the clock had jumped ahead 2 hours. Im still debating on whether this was a false awakening or not, it is possible I did fall asleep for 2 hours...
Not at all, its the easiest way for me to do it. Though i have a lot of bad luck with sleep paralysis, and I hear freaky static-like noises before I start to dream.
It's mildly hard to enter SP, but other than that wilding beats the hell out of getting LDs with luck. WILDing allows you to directly enter a dream from the waking state, meaning insured LDs for me! The only problem is, too many people are afraid of Old Hag or aren't patient enough to WILD.
I can just wake up early in the morning, write down my dreams in my DJ, and go grab an energy drink from the fridge. Later on, in the afternoon, I'll become really tired because the spontaneous energy from the drink wore off, and I'll go into my room and do a 20 minute workout. I'll do whatever I can to wear myself out even more; so that I'm just about as tired as I would be if it were nighttime- but only this time, in the afternoon.
Being the afternoon, and there is still some moderate light outside, I'll find it more comfortable to sleep- hence the light coming off the windows and my family still being awake and about. (I find it very hard to sleep at night.)
I'll lie down in bed for a while, trying my hardest not to close my eyes and stuff, playing out possible dream scenarios in my mind. After a while, I'll close my eyes and relax. SP stages should hit in after about 10 minutes or so; and I can be in SP anywhere from 20 to 30 minutes since I closed my eyes.
Once I'm in SP, I can take off from there and jump into a dream easily- and all in time to wake up for dinner :D. This is my own personal WILD method and it works great for me :)
Should have had a "meh" option. It used to be really easy for me, but lately it just doesn't seem to work.
The truth
WILDing is hard for most people because most people say it is hard. And those people who say it is hard had people telling them it was hard before them.
WILDing, like all of Lucid Dreaming, is as hard as you make it, since dreaming is based on your expectations.
Thank you.
I also like(feel safer) wilding when my family is about (except i do it in the morning, unlike arxticknight). Yes they make alot of noise and ruin a few attempts or wake me from lds, but its not that bad.
I disagree. Going to sleep conscious is not hard because everyone says it is. Its hard because you have been falling asleep the same way all your life, and now you are trying to learn to fall asleep another way. The placebo surely helps make WILD hard, but thats not the main reason.Quote:

The first time I tried to WILD I came very close and had a cool experience. But ever since then I've just ended up laying there not moving for 20 minutes + and only feeing a small vibration every now and then. After long enough I just get frustrated and jerk out of it and try to go to sleep. The last time I tried I had no vibrations, but I was getting lots of hypnotic imagery, that may have just been me falling asleep though. But after a little while of HI, my brain would snap back into, "this isn't real," and I'd feel awake and at square one again. So I basically end up laying there for over an hour or more wishing I had never tried.
It's really annoying and making me lose all interest in WILDing. I don't know what I'm doing wrong, I just lie there and try not to move and feel disconnected from my body while keeping my mind passive.
You'll probably have to try longer than 20 minutes. 40 seems to be the average from what I read in another thread and personal experience. It's difficult to remain completely still like you should with your body sending you signals that it needs to move and there's an itch on your face, but that's what you must do. I've found that it doesn't matter what I think about, as long as I keep my mind awake and aware. Staying still takes care of the rest of it.
Galantamine makes it a lot easier too.
The energy drink pumps my body up and gets me energetic. Once it begins to wear off, I work out really hard to wear myself out even more. I don't do so that I can't keep my eyes open, but that I am moderately tired. Enough to where I can keep a train of thought going with my eyes closed in bed without falling asleep accidentally.
I'll lie down with my eyes closed and listen to my family. This helps to override the hallucinations and sounds that sometimes startle me and break my concentration. (meaning, if I hear voices inside of my head, I won't be able to recognize them because I am listening to my family.)
This helps make me feel more comfortable, and no, the my family's voices to do not distract me from going to sleep.
I think there should have been another option in the poll. "Hard to do naturally, but easy given the right supplements".
I'd say that WILDs are hard when you are not using the right technique, and could be very easy once you find your own way.
From my personal experience, most tutorials were not suited to me, at all. Their authors can only write them from their own experience, and everybody is different. It's not like writing a Photoshop tutorial were everyone can be expected to have the same software version...
So, trying to stick with some tutorial could lead to frustration, because you fall asleep faster, or slower than expected by the tutorial; because you're more "receptive" on the evening, the middle of the night, or the morning... or your mind reacts in a different way to the exercise given (does counting make you more sleepy, or on the contrary keeps you awake ? can you empty your head easily, or is it constantly buzzing with random thoughts, and emptiness is a counter-productive effort ?)... because your natural hypnogagic hallucinations are tactile sensations, sounds, or abstract thoughts, while the tutorial asks you to focus on images.
I had no success with the WILD tutorials I found, and yet I can now manage to get several WILDs per weeks with my own method (which happens to be best at 7 in the morning, just after hitting the snooze button, falling asleep immediately; and let me enter a LD in less than 1 minute whithout any long and unpleasant SP... not quite what you read on the usual WILDs)
My tutorial for those who have yet to succeed is : experiment on your own; notice how YOU enter sleep; read the existing tutorials, then adapt them to what you are, not the other way around.
It was wicked hard at first, but now after working at it it comes to me very easily. I guess its like everything else in life, the more you practice the easier it comes.
Yes and No.
Sometimes external things interfere with WILD attempts and make it hard.
When conditions are good, no distractions and I'm properly tired, WILDing is pretty easy.
It is easy when you know how

=P
Essentially, QFT
Another bottom line that always seems to pop up is that WILD is generally not for the first lucid. Although, trying WILDs will often spawn DILDs (Most often the first night after the person has given up all hope, just to spite them =P)
