Is it unreasonable of me to get frustrated so soon?

Ok I know it is unreasonable of me. Perhaps I want to vent. Perhaps I want to hear other people's stories.

I get frustrated because it should be achievable. It IS achievable so why aren't I doing it?

I have pretty good dream recall. I know a lot of my dream signs. I've had (DILD) lucid dreams in the past. So I should be able to do it. I wake up in the morning and think of all the dreams I had that I can recall pretty well and think "what a waste!"

Am I trying too many techniques at once? I am trying RC in order to DILD. I am trying WILD and FILD.

Am I better to try ONE technique thoroughly instead of mixing them up? I feel perhaps I should.

I am such an impatient person. I have been keeping a DJ for eight days now and feel I should have some results, lol. Arghh. If I could stick my own foot up my backside I would.

Like I said in another thread, I'd be typical and recommend time, practice and training and such, but to try and calm you down and motivate you a little bit, let me tell you a few things in the words of me.

Relax and stay calm, this kind of attitude will not help you, no offence. Frustration is a bad thing, it's similar to stress, and it kills our mind (not literally of course).

About techniques, do whatever you think is comfortable. All these people writing and typing tutorials are basically sharing bits of information or showing off going "Look at me I'm doing something complex", this can lead to jealousy and can take you down the wrong track. Yes, that's wrong. So do whatever you're comfortable with. Surprising as it sounds, but just getting tiny bits off tutorials and remembering them will help you make your decision on what to do.

Other than this, eight days isn't enough for Lucid Dreaming! I've been doing it for a year and I'm still rubbish, but then again that's just me. Sorry if I kind of got you out of motivation there but it's just a matter of patience and I've had my fair amount of Lucid Dreams. So do what I do, and be patient, and of course, if you don't want to listen to me, then don't. Forcing yourself to understand something understandable to you can be bad for you when it comes to this subject, this is why I'm saying this.

Again, don't be frustrated, that's why you're not doing it. Relax more, and be patient, it'll soon come. And eight days is good, but if it's not giving hardcore results, just keep being patient. :lol:

I am really enjoying this forum. It is a very active forum with lots to read and I'm very enthusiastic.

I'm sort of being tongue in cheek with my above post but the frustration and lack of patience with myself is real enough. I know I need to relax and calm down instead of being a spoiled brat but I sometimes need to be told, lol.

I love reading other people's success so jealousy isn't an issue for me. I really do want to know though if trying to concentrate on too many techniques at once is not a good idea.

Did other (successful) people focus on one technique at a time to find out what works? Or is mixing it up a bit ok?

Most people try different techniques at a pace that's comfortable to them. :)

I don't think its better to try one technique instead of more. I tried four or five last night and it worked. It does take alot of practise. Don't get discouraged! Dreams are fun, anyway for me, so instead of getting impatient for a lucid dream, relax and try your techniques, not worrying about whether or not you should be having a lucid dream, because eventually it will happen!

Oh, and also Bethany, don't be sorry, as I saw on the first line of your post. It's honestly okay to speak your mind on this forum! :)

I recommend you to stop trying. Seriously.

The best stuff thats happened to me dream-wise has been achieved through not trying. If you try too hard, you get no results. The only kind of lucid dream I have is when I can naturally know that I'm waking up, and thus am aware that I'm dreaming, but I can only do that by not trying. The same goes for recall. Log your dreams, do nothing else if autosuggestion stops working.

You have no business getting frustrated. At all. I have been working at this for over a year, and my dreaming experience is still limited to sporadic DILD's. Get over it-the lucids will come, give it time.

i mix it up. i do a WBTB and then try and WILD. after another brief awakening (whether the WILD was successful or not) i either do the "picture your backyard" technique by I H8 Reality, or just another quick WILD attempt. it depends on how awake i am after each brief awakening. but this could be an issue if you write in your DJ during the awakenings. it doesn't matter, all i am saying is mixing it up is okay.

I can feel your frustration. I'm too tired and lazy to read the other posts, but I know jdeadevilknows what he's talking about (I hope). A first, it's normal to really expect to have an LD really soon, and you'll want to try every technique at every possible time to maximize results. You need to relax, and take your time. Maybe take a break from everything for a few days. After not trying super hard to LD, I've gotten a few DILDs and a WILD or two in a row. Telling yourself that it should be happening and it's not is not a very good mindset. So is telling yourself that you're impatient. These thoughts have an amazing infuence that should net be underestimated, and although you've probably heard stories of people who have taken almost a year to have 1 LD, you can always have one if you think the right way and don't get too exited. For example, when WILDing, never think about how close you are to a dream or about LDing (I know it may sound counter-productive, but it's true). If you want, you can try being adopted to have a more experiences LDer guide you and make a schedule. PM me if you have any additional questions.

i've heard that stressing out about having an LD hurts your chances of having one. I've stopped trying to have them every night, I just try to think about it throughout my day but usually I don't. I don't have them very often, about 1 every 2 weeks if i'm lucky, but this year i've had around 4 or 5 and thats more than i've ever had. Don't worry, they will come. Usually what I do is just meditate before bed and then fall asleep, most of my LDs come from DILD

i myself don't think that adoption is necessary, plenty of forum members will help you whenever you need it. If you say you've had lucid dreams before then I don't think you necessarily NEED someone to adopt you, so don't get distressed if you don't get adopted. It's really hard to get adopted (if you noticed about 75% of the adopt me please threads go unread.) Just stick with it, don't get frustrated when you don't have a lucid dream, embrace the normal dream and record it.. memorize it.. remember the feeling and hopefully you will start to recall the feeling of being in a dream that will help you become lucid more often

Yeah I understand why you get frustrated, it's because when you attempt DILDs you kinda have to count on your subconscious. But when you do WILDs, it's completely up to you wether you enter a dream or not. WILDs might be a lot harder to do, but they sure are less frustrating to work at.. the process of watching your self fall asleep is already very interesting, weird stuff happening etc, and you can see the progress better too.

So you can try to WILD when frustrated, but you only been here two weeks? Don't worry then, the time it takes to get good at it all depends on the amount of time and thought you put into it.

Yeah I know what it's like, the important thing is to look to the future not the present for results, don't expect results now, but accept that they are indeed coming in the future, in any given amount of time, as long as you don't give up you can't fail.

It's ok to mix techniques like for example similar technics like dream journaling and RC's go good (I prefer something more abstract then RC's, I prefer to study the feelings of my dreams and learn their nature) And WBTB goes great with WILD or DEILD, or FILD, I don't recommend expecting WILDs too soon, but the results for learning to WILD will be much less random lucid dreams, I recommend DEILD though (it is a very effortless technique really), because thats my number one technique, I have a good tutorial as to how I do it, found here http://www.dreamviews.com/community/...1&postcount=77 if you wake up alot throughout the night the technique should be quite effective, you don't usualy use an alarm clock to wake up, I prefer to use my body clock to wake me up, and just have a time planned out and thinking about it often will often result in me waking up close to the correct time.

It took me forever. months. and months. not saying it will take you that long... just saying that even if it does, it's so worth it in the end. dont give up on it, and try not to think about it too much. you'll get it eventually :)

You should try autosuggestion to take advantage of your will, without stressing out. Look up some tutorials, but be sure to note the method. Tell yourself that you will have a DILD, and you will remember it when you wake up. If you want a WILD, tell yourself to wake up after every dream and remember. (You'll be surpreised at how well this works.) And, as everyone else had beaten to death, don't be stressed about it or want it excessively much. I've had two long LDs right after each other the night I stopped waking up at 3:30 to try to WILD.

I've been having lucid dreams from a very young age. I never had to work to get them, but I've found that nearly all of them occur in a weird stage of sleep I call, "over sleep." If I'm really beat or only get a few hours of sleep, it just won't happen. I say "over sleep" because nowadays people think four hours is enough. If you get about six to seven hours of good sleep though, the last hour is normally when you realize you're dreaming. It's as if your body is rested and wants to be active, but your body still happens to be asleep. When I'm actually trying to have a lucid dream though, I make sure I've got nothing to do the next day, because if you have obligations, your subconsious will interfere. I make sure I'm comfortable and that no one will wake me up even if I over sleep for an hour, because it's in that last hour that most lucid dreams happen. Feeling strong emotions right before you go to bed is often a catalyst too.

How I'm doing it....:)

1) Have a few permanant purpose/reason for LDing and it must be specific.

2) Don't push too hard when it comes to RCing (military style). It's best to custom make/design a RC that suits your needs for LDing and to make it as relaxed and chilled out as possible. The best ones are the ones that incorporate LD activities and RCing together as one action, that way you save dream time and effort and it also makes RCing more motivated and productive.

3) Do not be impatient, it will be your pitfall no kidding. It will come to you sooner or later. It all depends on how you do it, if it's effective, you will have an LD the same night you use it and that will induce another one in the next dream.
