I would recommend to keep your eyes closed. You are tricking your body that you are asleep, and using movement to achieve lucidity.
This works, and the cool thing is that you are mainly moving your fingers in your mind and not enough actual movement to let on to your body you are awake.
The finger moving also gives you the focus to stay awake too.
