      Confused about WILD!

OK, i thought the idea of a WILD was to stay as still as possible until you fell asleep...i also read somewhere that when you have an itch or an urge to swallow that this is a test from your body to see if you are still awake...but recently i have read a couple of posts saying you don't have to be completely still to WILD, so im just wondering what everyone's opinions were, do you have to be still or can you move when you need to and still complete it? i feel it might make it easier for me if you can move because i think when i know i cant move im way to focused on my body to fall asleep... thanks.

IMO it is ok to swallow because your body does that while asleep anyway. It can be difficult to avoid itching because it's very distracting and sometimes painful. I think its best to try and ignore the itches, but if you cant, itch yourself and continue the wild. It may set you back a bit, but it's much better than having the urge to itch for 30-45 min.(Some itches wont go away)

      Hey,

Things are kinda iffy with swallowing while WILDing. I think it all depends on your frame of mind. If you feel like swallowing, and try to stave it off but then give in, you will be thinking to yourself "great, I messed it up", and this will cause you to ACTUALLY mess up through power of suggestion.

I recommend swallowing as soon as you feel you have to, then forgetting about it and not thinking it might mess up your progress. If you find yourself having to swallow constantly, try to focus on something different, like an external constant sound (as defined in my advice on WILDs article), which will focus your attention away from swallowing. I find that focusing on your breathing only enhances the swallowing urges.

You're right to feel confused, the issue of swallowing is somewhat iffy. Hope my advice helps.

OK thanks, but what about if you feel uncomfortable should you just roll over, cos i figured when you are going to sleep normally i might lay there for 5 minutes get uncomfortable roll over and then fall asleep within a couple of minutes, so why should this not be the case for WILDing? I mean what i read a minute ago about just going to sleep normally and moving when you feel like it, until you feel really sleepy and then focusing on your breathing for a couple of minutes, just to take you through the transition makes more sense to me than sitting there for an hour with a relaxed body and then not getting any further, just thinking outloud Im going to try just pretending to go to sleep normally tonight and then when i feel on the verge of slipping away im goignn to focus on breathing and keep still then and see if get any further with WILD cos atm i think im way to focused on feelings in my body and its stopping me from falling asleep or getting anyway, thanks for you help

There's no actual science to this, but in my opinion the reason that moving about during your WILD is frowned upon is simply because you'll be laying there longer.

Let me explain. When going to sleep normally, you'll notice that you do indeed toss and turn before actually falling asleep, but you'll also notice that this extends your amount of time awake (hence the term "tossing and turning all night"). With normal sleep, you eventually lose consciousness, then you enter SP after falling unconscious. The idea for WILD is to get to SP as quickly as possible (while conscious), so you'll be laying there for less time, and be less tempted to give up. Tossing and turning, scratching, and swallowing may indeed extend your time laying there.

Im going to try just pretending to go to sleep normally tonight and then when i feel on the verge of slipping away im goignn to focus on breathing and keep still then and see if get any further with WILD cos atm i think im way to focused on feelings in my body and its stopping me from falling asleep or getting anyway, thanks for you help
I think that's a good idea. Try that and see how it works. I know that thinking too much about WILDing is one of the many ways you can fail at WILDing. One thing for sure is that you need to experiment and find out what works good for you personally.

      Good luck in your endeavors!!

It does make sense that you would be laying there longer, ill try both ways in the future and see how it goes

i dont know much about WILDS and all that and im more of a beginner, but from what ive read and been able to accomplish, all i have to do for a WILD is wake up from dreaming and just close my eyes and concentrate slightly on what i see. Then things start to happen like i hear noises and i slowly start going into a dream. Its hard though because once im i start to think too much about being lucid and i wake up
