Anyone had this problem?

When going to bed at night, I plug my CD player into the speakers, and wait for the beeps, which signal me to do reality checks. ( the salcube.com timer )
I always sit in bed, get alarmed by the beeps, and then do my reality checks.

However, as many of you may know, it is not easy to fall asleep when in this situation. It keeps you awake, anticipating; like the night before christmas.

Last night, I actually turned off the CD player, unplugged the speakers, and I fell asleep with little problem after.

Even after waking up hours later to attempt a WBTB, I could not fall asleep knowing that I was waiting for the beeps. :roll:


This problem is why I will probably never use the beep system again.
And why im trying the "Anchor" lucid aid tonight. :lol:

I REALLY HOPE you didn't buy that timer. It sounds like a very stupid concept to me, but im sure saltcube drummed it up to sound like a great product. Obviously you cannot sleep well if your speakers are beeping every so often, ESPECIALLY if your mind is subconsciously expecting/ anticipating it. Definetely don't use this timer anymore. Do your reality checks consistently throughout the DAY until is is just natural for you to randomly think "oooo! reality check!" so that when your dreaming you will have the same habit. But when you go to sleep, dont worry or even think about reality checks, except for checking for false awakenings.

Maybe have it running at night for one or two nights and not do the reality checks so you get a bit more used to it and then start conditioning yourself to respond after that. I would try keeping it up since ultimately you will start getting less excited or anticipate it less as it becomes more routine.

Have it running it sometimes in the day as well might get you used to it so you forget about it between the beeps.

If you are serious about sending signals to yourself to do reality checks during your dreams, then there is an amazing product out there. It is a sleep mask thats extremely comfortable, and it has a radar that detects rapid eye movement. WHen you enter REM sleep (and your problem dreaming then) it sends flashes of light, which you will see during your dreams. It can often come in the form of lightning or firecrackers (for me). IT does cost money of course and i cannot find the direct link but just Google lucid dream products and its very popular youll find it. Im pretty sure its made by lucidity-institute where Stephen LaBerge does his research.

I'd rely on other ways than that cube thing to do reality checks. No dreams if you're not sleeping.
