      Adraw's generic WILD

      Generic WILD technique

      Introduction
Being on dreamviews has always been an inspiration for me. I have found many people who helped me to understand what WILD really is. Using the knowledge they provided and according to my personal experience, i have found out, that many WILD methods and techniques share the same, never changing principles. What if we found out, what steps should be performed in each and every WILD attempt? What if we simply created a modular technique, which could be simply adjusted to needs of everyone? Wouldnt that be cool?

According to latest knowledge, I have created a preview of generic modular WILD technique, which reflects my current knowledge about WILD. I have made one simple image using free process modelling software, which can be easily downloaded at: http://www.download.com/BizAgi-Proce...-10829436.html

This software has exporting capabilities, so it is really easy to create models of processes {such as WILD and other techniques}. You may find modell made in BizAgi process modeller at: http://adraw.yweb.sk/dreamviews/gwild.bpm

      Modular WILD phases
My generalized WILD technique consists of 4 parts:
      1. Entry
      2. Preparation
      3. WILD core
      4. Exit

Entry and exit parts represent entry points of generalized WILD technique and possible outcomes of WILD attempts which you probably know yourself.

Preparation part contains tasks which everybody should perform before starting with WILD attempt. I will provide further explanation later on.

WILD core part concentrates on what is common for each and every WILD attempt and shows some {not all} variants of WILD. After exploring this part, you will no longer have problems with understanding many WILD techniques Dreamviews has collected over the years of its existence. Let me start with explaining what phases of generealized WILD really are.

      Entry
You probably know techniques like FILD or DEILD. These techniques take advantage of half dream state you are in, when you wake up in the middle of the night. FILD and DEILDs are form of WILD, major difference is, when you perform them.

Half dream state is an entry point for WILD attempt, just like a state when you are fully awake. Each and every WILD technique must take entry point into consideration. According to state of mind you are currently at, you have to/dont have to perform preparation steps, before performing attempt itself.

      Preparation
If you want to perform WILD, you simply have to prepare yourself for that attempt. Just take the famous relaxation which is crucial to speed up the process of WILD and to reduce many of itches and scratches and twitches. Each and every WILD technique starting from fully awake state takes relaxation phase into consideration{short relaxation is better than none}.

Now comes more fun. Read http://www.dreamviews.com/community/...ad.php?t=61525 for more information about sleep paralysis and falling asleep in general.

When you are relaxed enough, you should start to move your attention from external into internal world. You probably read many tutorials, and each tutorial uses different methods to perform this attention switch. This, or that way. When you move deeper and deeper into yourself, your external senses dont disturb you in process and they are starting to shut down themselves. Many WILD techniques use tricks such as holding the eyes still, not moving at all, or listening to white noise. Something, what causes external sensoric deprivation. Many people use their own imagination to create internal bodies only to get rid of external stimuli. Some people just daydream and let their thoughts do the rest.

Still. Concentrating on your inner self should be the first thing you make. Even if what you do is part of one of the later steps {such as active visualization}, first thing, that happens is, that you simply stop to care about your external body {and that is good}. Just let the external body go. Let the thoughts go.

All this moves your external attention inwards. Do it however you wish, just remember:

First relax, then sink deeper into yourself

If you manage to feel somehow within yourself, you are (excluding some details) nearly at the same place as you would be if you started at half dream entry point.

The last part of preparation is setting an anchor. Anchor is something (whatever), what reminds you to remain conscious, when everything else collapses into unconsciousness. You can find out more about anchors at: http://www.dreamviews.com/community/...ad.php?t=62282

Billybob made a good job telling us this generalization. Now... Recall some tutorials you readed recently. Each and every tutorial stresses not to fall asleep. Some of the tutorials use breathing, counting or mantra as an anchor. Just be aware, there is nothing magical about this aids. They are used only becouse we tend to fall asleep sooo easily when falling asleep.

Last step of the preparation is installing of the anchor. If you use counting, there is probably nothing to install, but if you use some suggestions, NLP aids or some sophisticated means of anchoring, you should at least reasure yourself, they will work. Once you install the anchor, you should let it do its work. If you think, feel, sense, that the anchor is not installed deeply enough, you should wait in this phase a little bit longer.

How do you know, that an anchor is not installed correctly? Thats simple. You are more concentrated on the anchor then on actuall content of WILD method. So once more... Be sure anchor is installed correctly and you believe it will work when needed.

      WILD core
Now. As you have prepared your body to fall asleep and your mind to remain aware within your sleeping body, you are ready to perform the technique you like. Just take whatever technique you like and perform the steps. Now, when you know, whats common for each technique, there is not much new in every single tutorial. Just the details about how to enter dream world. Pretty important details dont you think?

So which technique should you choose? Which is the best for the kind of personality you are? There are not as many types of WILD. So you dont have to try each technique to find out which technique suits you.

Probably the biggest difference between techniques is, whether you want to be active in process of dream world construction or not. Many people like to create dream scenes from scratch. This requires pretty delicate imagination power, and not everybody has the capacity to do that (at least not at the first time). There are also differences between people in terms of sensoric channel they prefer to use. Simple way how to determine, which channel you are best at is taking a piece of text you wrote in the past and count words like see, hear, sense, (sensoric words) and find out which words do you use the most in your speech. This is pretty effective but in my opinion you wont need this, becouse you already subconsciously know, which channel do you like most.

Your preferred sensoric channel is used to determine which sense to use in active dream scene construction the most. If you are an audiophile, start creating your dream world from voices and sounds. If you are good with imagination, visualize stream of pictures. If you are good in sport, you should concentrate on your dream body the most.... I know you are getting what I mean . Dont use something you are not good at at first. The worse you are with sensoric channel you would like to use for construction, the more willpower you will need and the less successfull you will be. Dont worry if you are good only in one sense. As you construct the scene, another senses will improve in quality as the dream comes closer.

I wrote a lot about people, who want to be active in process of dream world construction. Yess that is interesting, but many people are not as good in visualizaion. There is a way how to have wilds even if you are not good in visualization and that is the passive way. This way has only one rule. Wait, wait wait... And dont fall asleep. You will get some kind of imagery or if not. Maybe some feeling or SP. Whatever. The same process as with active WILD happens also in passive WILD, but the scene which is created corresponds the scene of physical world.

Most important is not to fall asleep. When creative part of the the brain starts to work on its own. It starts to have its own inertia. I named it REM creative inertia for the sake of this generalized WILD guide. This creative inertia is included in each and every guide you will read (even if only implicitly). This special inertia has one property of great use. It simply
      .... Solidifies imagery

This creative inertia works like a miracle. You give the brain an idea and it automatically uses associations to construct sensoric experience. And it constructs them using memmory impressions stored within your head.

Still. When the brain switches from external into internal world, this ability causes lots of problems. As it activates, there is one transition period when consciousness is very volatile and it is really easily caught by reality of created imagery. And as the ability provides tons of memmory impressions, it is more and more intense as the dream nears. Here... you should use installed anchor to hold your consciousness coherent.

      Recovery and exit
Even if you are not successfull with wild, there is a probability, you will have some false awakening, and as it happens, you may use your anchor or some reality check to continue with dream lucidly.

If you manage retain consciousness during transition phase, REM inertia will fully solidify imagery and the scene will become solid enough for you to enter it. Still it is not easy not to wake up, or fall asleep within that scene. So first thing you have to do is to stabilize dream itself and yourself within a dream. This is even more important if you didnt "construct" dream body using active visualization

      Summary
WILD is pretty a straightforward technique, if you know what to expect. I believe that principles written here will help you to have your first WILDs and improve your next ones. My goal was to write a guide, which would somehow connect existing techniques and tutorials into a consistent text and "and picture ).

      TO COMMUNITY
Please, let me know about your opinion, I plan to make this guide better than it is now, so consider it a preview and lets discuss about it. You may download the image and also the source file and open it with provided program. I would be honored if anyone would make some changes into my work, so it becomes better. Thanx for your time people. Enjoy and let me know.

Thanks for such a great diagram! It really lets me see the process, and it's not as daunting as imagining it. I do think that diagram will help if ever I get around to WILD attempting.
Always know sometimes think it's me
But you know I know when it's a dream
I think I know I mean yes, but it's all wrong

      Wow dude !
      Phucking awsome.
I think you meantion pretty much here.
i read that you wrote that "the more willpower you will need the less successfull you will be". I found out after a while of LDing that it makes a lot of sense when it comes to if you're going to make it or not.
      Cool picture too

If you use a mantra as an anchor, I guess it would be helpful to use one like this:

"I'll realize that I dream and do reality checks."

So if you lose awareness, this may work as a second layer and induce a MILD, just in case. This should be a lot safer than counting.

How long is a WILD supposed to take? I tried for about an hour this morning, and all I got was a bit of numbness.

I would say. It takes a lot of time for some and some people manage to do it the first night they try it.

There are some important skills which have to be mastered before achieving wild.

      1. Deep relaxation
      2. Taming the mind

If you are already good at this, it is chance you will have your wild in short time. Maybe the biggest part of the problem for most of us are expectations. We are expecting something to happen, and it wont. Its like knocking on a wrong door.

i gota say wow, the diagram is great. you can easily see the process and see were your at and were you screwed up. one thing I've noticed is at one point a little bit after the mild numbness and vibration my mind goes whacked, my thoughts dont make sense, somethings i just listen to myself think becuase its crazy. example " hees.. shooting mars.., whhy we go theere?" in my mind its all very sleeply like. what stage do you think this is in? possibly its just nonsense.

I didnt explicitly give this a place in diagram, but this can manifest itself in any part of graph. If you are pretty tired, you may zone out when doing attention switch. If not as tired it may come when REM creative inertia sets fully in. Generally this kind of phaenomena is more present in later parts of process and is a sign that your brain is starting to play with memmory and constructing something new.

I made that diagram from what I readed and with consultation. Partially also from my own experience. Still it is my work and should be considered so

Maybe it would be helpful to clarify, how I made that diagram. According to reading and my improving experience, I have found out, that there are many key aspects which are recurrent in WILD induction techniques. I wanted to create a diagram (and still want to improve existing one), where you could clearly see, what kind of processes people usually go, when performing WILD.

      Why?

Simply becouse if the process is modularized and if agreed upon, you could speak more about details later on. As i am not really skillful in later phases of WILD so this diagram doesnt have to be that correct. Still I find the idea of generalisation interesting. Becouse if you take this diagram you may see DEILD or FILD as different entry point to this generalised procedure, or just speeded up version.

Anyways... Thanx for clearing things out DreamChaser.

Yeah. Lots of MILDs, lots of LD after blackout, but never direct transition. I am an software engineer. We do this a lot in our work. Try to conceptualise what we are learning. Try to generalise. I know it is hard to understand logic behind writing this guide. But still I have read many materials about WILD about OOBs about Astral projection. I have had experiences with sleep paralysis. About hypnagogic hallucinations, but never the direct transition.

I know, this removes credit from my work. But if you read carefully, you will find out that the text itself proposes to continue this work with help of experts.

I only feel sorry, that no expert joined this work till now. . What I would like to achieve is make the process of WILD more understandable. Not only for others, but also for myself. This is the reason, why I wrote this guide.

In our work, we are used to collaboration with experts to create functioning systems, which could be reused to increase effectiveness of our work. What I did is, I took other (often citated) tutorials made a compilation of them and graphical form of it.

Yes. I am unable to WILD for now. The direct transition into dream is something elusive to me. Still I am able to think and conceptualise pretty well. And If you want to, please help to improve this diagram with your experiences. I have the skills to conceptualize, you have the experiences ... Lets improve together

That diagram must be put on the top of the WILD thread, it is really great. The thought of which you haven't achive WILD, removes credit from your work is silly though. I mean anyone can easily understand that diagram and comprehend how WILD operate, at least theoratically. So I think you don't need to exprience it first, you have already had lots of information about it. You really know much, maybe it is preventing you from WILDing. I know it sounds silly, but you know, just a thought

The diagram is very good. I see almost no fault in it.

The wall of text is pretty daunting, however XD. But it has much info that would be useful to newbies.

      So, good job =)

On the diagram, Excitement Level to Awake should have High on the line leading to it.

Thanx for your support. I can really agree with you that the lots of information is preventing me from entering dream world directly. You know... I have built up a pretty large wall of expectations. Still I see some minor improvements and recently I had some hypnopompic paralysis experiences so this opens possibilities for quick direct dream entry. And possibly my first WILD. So lets just be patient {from my side }. About the top of the wild thread ... Its already there ... In simplified form . Take a look here:

Thank you for your valuable response arby.

      1. I see more potential problems in this diagram and that would be, that it is strictly sequential in its nature. Terms I mentioned like REM creative inertia dont take place only as a step in this diagram. Creative inertia ... Like i defined it is continous process which comes into play progressively. Maybe I should have placed Lapse of consciousness from waking into dream world as a step into this diagram instead of REM creative inertia. What do you think? That would make more sense and would correspond to sequential nature of this diagram.

      2. If you think carefully you will probably see, that this diagram has an anchor installation within it. I did not think about this concept before Billybob came and introduced it... But as soon as I saw it, really I found out to be really effective. It really seems that this can have really many implications. Just imagine:

Billybob mentioned pain anchor as an extreme example of this technique. This kind of anchor really is used only as a support to hold awareness. But there are other anchor possibilities. Like using some mantra or whatever linquistic. But mantra as an anchor is not only used as an awareness support but also can take advantage of prospective memory if formulated well. This opens a range of possibilities. Take a look at prospective memory related anchor as a safety net, just as reality check. This often help me to achieve my lucid dream. But I dont consider them WILDs becouse they are DILDs in their nature.

You know. This power of diagramming can make thinks easier at first sight, but if you take closer look at implications, man has to be really carefull in choosing terminology and explanations. Hope you {and other people here} will help me to clear things out and cover much of the WILD process yet keeping this as simple as possible.

Aah.. If only Thor would help. He cares a lot about clear terminology.

As long as it helps you with your WILD, my lack of self-discipline is irrelevant .

I was really impressed with this diagram. It really does include and cover most of the main issues with WILDing all in one nice littler neat diagram. Congratulations. I also think that this diagram should be included elsewhere in DVs.
The long worn out traveler was just now crossing the invisible film of clarity.
He found instantly that the lights were brighter and the grass really was greener.

Thanx for your response. This diagram forms the basis of the WILD tutorial in tutorial section, although, this version is more complete, becouse it contains also the Wall of text before the image.
