Anyone having the same WILD problem?

So, I've been been practicing with a couple different techniques for dreaming. The one that gives me the most trouble is the WILD. I've tried the WILD at least 6 times over the past 2 months and it seems I cannot get over this little hump.

I usually go to bed and wake up about 4 hours later. I get up for about 2 minutes and return back to bed. I lie down on my back and start initiating the 61-point relaxation technique. I go through all the points, taking me about a total of 10 minutes and finally I am in a physical state of tranquility. Its really a beautiful state to be in. All the joints in my body seem heavy and very relaxed.

For about 20 more minutes I do a couple of different techniques: I tell myself (over and over again) that I will enter the Dream world and declare that for a while. Then I passively stare into the light patterns that form in my eyes. After that I picture myself in a dream state and that helps me center on my goal more.


So then something kicks in. I've been told is SP but im not 100% sure it is. It seems my heart seems to race a little. I seem to start twitching and I can feel my eyes feeling more pressure while the rapidly move around my closed eyes. My muscles seem to feel as if they are being tensed and relaxed repeatedly. [I could try to explain more but I dont think my words can really pinpoint the direct expirence.]

But then the feeling fades and I'm back to where i started. I'm very relaxed but I still know that I'm laying in bed. I have heard that when you are in SP: you are supposed to be witness to a dream scape forming in your closed eyelids. I don't see that. Just random light patterns.

It seems I can never transcend into a dream state consciously. Is there anything I am doing wrong? Any Mindsets i can try? Any feeling I am supposed to be feeling? Am i feeling something close to SP? I would really appreciate some feedback here. It's kind of frustrating to the point where I don't want to try WILD'ing anymore.

Any suggestions?

I'm similar sometimes, in that I get this chilling sensation through my body, which numbs my hands and feet if they go on for long enough, but it is not sleep paralysis itself and other than the physical sensations, I don't feel any closer to the dream state after these chilling sensations than I had before them.

I have a few questions: First, are you getting close to the point of falling asleep during any of this? It's obvious, but also very forgettable that in order to achieve a WILD, you do need to fall asleep. Also, do you ever reach the point where you begin to hear random noises/voices? Personally, I've never achieved a WILD, but I've been conscious enough to recognize these random noises as I am seemingly beginning to fall asleep (although I usually get too excited or alert, and snap right out of it at that point:shakehead:), but I haven't experienced sleep paralysis either. If you have heard these random noises around the time your heart races and your body twitches (or even if you haven't, since, like everone says, "everybody is different"), it's possible you legitimately were close to the dream state, and maybe sleep paralysis was trying to kick in, but the moment it began, you became alert to the point that the relaxation you'd been attempting to achieve was gone, along with your progress.

I can't tell for sure whether this might've been sleep paralysis, especially since I myself have never experienced sleep paralysis, but what I've found helpful these last few days when trying to WILD is thinking about some scene to focus on the entire time, which I have found makes it much easier to remain calm and not too alert, yet also stay conscious, when something like sleep paralysis (or whatever we're feeling) is kicking in. Personally, I sometimes imagine reaching out for somebody's hand, but not quite being able to reach it. It's very helpful, because it requires effort and keeps me conscious enough to WILD due to the effort of visualizing "reaching out" for that person's hand, yet it is generally a mostly constant visualization throughout the time I am attempting to WILD, and doesn't require effort to update and change over time. I've definitely noticed that if and when I have ever felt close to transitioning into sleep, this visualization, and the effort that goes into envisioning reaching out for somebody's hand, helps me to remain calm and undistracted...yet, since it is so constant, it's easy to maintain and not as easy to drift off with. You've probably read lots of other suggestions, which other people use as well, such as imagining yourself climbing stairs, riding a bike, etc., but personally, I like to think about this rather than actions like that, because I can continue to focus on it even when I feel something happening to my body, but this visualization itself is not enough to keep me overly alert and awake.

I would suggest finding a sort of visualization like this that works for you, other than just imagining the dream state. It's possible that what you're feeling could be sleep paralysis starting to kick in, but your visualizations of (whatever you're visualizing) isn't keeping you calm enough to be able to continue focusing on them even when something is happening to your body. It must be something that you are able to continue to calmly visualize amidst the twitching and heart racing without becoming distracted by these sensations.

That's my advice...you may just be getting too alert when something starts happening. Personally, it feels as though I automatically tune in as soon as I start feeling something, and this is the urge you have to be able to resist effortlessly, without thinking about it. The moment you get distracted and tune in to these sensations, you've likely lost any chance at achieving whatever was to follow these initial sensations. And, if you ask me, that's where your visualization must come in handy. If you find the right visualization, it should allow you to not become distracted when you begin to feel something happening (while your visualization effortlessly continues as it was), and then, you may be able to find out whether these heart-racing, twitching sensations actually lead to something, such as sleep paralysis, immediately afterwards by remaining calm.

As I mentioned, I haven't yet achieved a WILD, so I'm probably not the right person to be talking...but hopefully my advice helps anyway.

Pretty much this exact same thing happens to me! I don't know if this is what happens to you, but I become completely relaxed, get the heavy feeling in my limbs, all while anchoring myself by counting my breaths or something. Then my mind kind of drifts, but I'm still counting in the back of mind (almost subconciously). Then I get the noises etc., but sort of without actually realising, because my mind is still on other things. Then, as soon as I really REALISE I'm hearing them, they go! So I guess that I need to have them but not focus on them. But then I'd probably slip into a normal sleep. It's such a fine line between being too aware and not aware enough, it's just practice I guess. Sorry, my rambling probably wasn't too much help haha... ah well if anyone else has any tips, feel free to share!

Sounds like fake SP to me. It happens when you get extremely relaxed and expect something to magically happen. It's a shame that many WILD guides place such a large emphasis on SP, without so much as mentioning the even more crucial step, which is the proper guidance of hypnagogic imagery.

Well when I attempt to WILD, I just lay there and after awhile my heart starts to race and like a feeling of adrenaline but then it just fades away and I give up and just turn onto my side to go to sleep.....This is what always happens when I TRY to wild. I have never seen a dream "form" before my eyes....All of my WILDs occured when I woke up in the middle of the night allready in SP and then jumped out and i'm Lucid. And when your in SP, youll know it. Even then, that dosent always mean you will have a Lucid.

That's exactly what I was trying to convey. Its almost like an adrenaline rush [which i absolutely love]. But no dream scape actually forms in front of my eyes. I feel like maybe I have stimulated a deep fascination with dreaming, that entering it consciously gets me too excited. Which doesn't lead to any progress. And I when i lay there for a long amount of time [an hour or so.] I feel that I have missed my window and I just lay on my side and go back to sleep. It seems that I can only actually enter "sleep" when my mind starts to wander.

And to the response above, I do feel an intense weight on my body while I'm in this state. It seems like my blanket has "3 folded it's own weight." It just seems that the hump is impossible to get over.

Also, I don't remember hearing sounds. But maybe ill try tonight and see what I can feel and hear. Maybe listening to instrumental music would help? I'm really not sure.


But for now I have to maintain doing Reality Checks and initiating a Lucid dream inside a regular dream. I've been doing this technique thats a version of a WILD but not at all at the same time:

I wake up after 6 hours of sleep. Stay awake for an hour, eating breakfast, reading the newspaper, checking my email, ect. Then I reflect in my dream journal for a while and then try to go back to sleep. Its like a WILD yet I induce the dream from inside, so its consider a DILD. No SP, no conscience initiation. But the thing is, when I wake, its easier to remember that I just feel asleep and that it is a dream. Its very unusual. Has anyone tried this before?

My WILD attempts are exactly the same as yours; relaxing state, adrenalin rush, feeling like falling or travel by speed of light but after that... only color patterns or just darkness and pressure on my eyes.

First all that freak´d me up(when i first try´d it) but now i getting use to it(or that what i though) Until last night.

I have been practising this method for a few time now (every time i try to sleep or even try to take a nap) But last nigt there was those sounds!:eek:
After some time when i was entered the SP state (or what i think of)I heard soud familiar like white noise... (if you have seen movie The Ring then you know what i mean :) ) And that scared crap out of me... i just had to wake up and check my tv so it was unplugged...(scary shit, if you excuse me)

Well after all that i went into my regular sleeping state and no LD:s :(
woke up and wrote my DJ and check´d my mail´s and wrote here :) so now ill try go back to sleep and catch some more boogy monsers :lol:

But all the same, i cant enter that dream state either.. even i have done exactly all the things that i have learn´d from here...I guess its all just long practise...
