I'm going to sleep for 5 hours, then wake up and go to sleep again. But how long do I have to stay awake? And what can i do? Is it a good idea to walk around in my house and turn on my computer and stuff like that?

I would recommend only staying up long enough for you to use the bathroom, get a drink/something to eat or something like that. You usually dont want to stay up too long w/ a wbtb. You also dont want to do anything to wake you up completely or stimulate you (e.g. PC, TV, etc.) b/c it will be very hard trying to fall back asleep.
this is entirely subjective.
I have problems falling back asleep if I stay awake for too long. So I usually just stay up long enough to get a quick drink.
However, you will have to do your own experimentation. I dont reconmend over 45-60mins though.
Goodluck
The usual recommended times range from 15 minutes to 60 minutes. Some people find that 30 seconds is too long.
It's different for everyone, usually 45 mins will be enough.
Stay up long enough until you don't feel groggy or incredibly tired.
For me, no more than five minutes, but everyone is different.
I usually just make a quick stop at the bathroom.;)
Whatever is best for you. Experiment a bit and you'll find out eventually.
its just as james said. find watever works for u best.
Dr. Laberge's research showed that 60 minutes was optimal, however I only do it for a minute or two.
Laberge also cautioned that some of his subjects had a difficult time getting back to sleep after that amount of time though.
Yeah for me if I am awake more than 5 minutes I have a terrible time trying to get back to sleep. Also, I would advise against eating anything with sugar. Some people say they need a caffeinated drink or sugar to stay awake, but I think it only makes it harder to fall asleep. The harder it is to fall asleep, the more frustrated you get. I'm a morning person so as soon as I am up and doing something out of bed, I'm up and I can't really get back to sleep.
Its different for everyone...one way you can judge it is if you seem to be falling asleep right away going stright into a normal dream you probably are not staying awake long enough...on the other hand if you find yourself not being able to fall asleep at all don't stay awake for as long or don't even do any activity...you have to trail and error..start by just getting up using the bathroom stretching then going back to bed..if you fall asleep right away..next time maybe turn on the light wen u get up next time...if you find yourself to awake when going back to bed...next time try not even getting out of bed just wake up right in your dream journal and go back to bed ....hope this helps guys
