Hear horrible screeching sound during WILD

      Ello everybody, im new,
thanks to the information on this forum i almost succeeded in having my first wild last night. What went wrong is that i heard this horrible screeching sound echo throughout my bedroom.
It scared the shit out of me and i opened my eyes (which had alot of difficulty readjusting might i add). It felt like there was a demon of some sort in the room. Perhaps it was only a car in traffic (i live near a main road, close to the city) but the screech echoed?? Perhaps i just need to get used to this scary shit that you get during SP....Any advice would be great

Oh and it was also a WILD attempt without sleeping before hand...

That's just audio hypnagogia. It's a normal part of a WILD. Ignore it. It means you're another step closer to entering the dream. (It's a good thing.)

Scary shit happens when you enter the hypnogogic phase, but it's normal. Just be glad you didn't get visual hypnagogia and see the "demon" as well. I would have crapped my pants.

well evangela let me welcome you to dreamviews. hope you find what you're lookin for. anyway its perfectly normal. those are auditory hallucinations (hearing things that aren't there). its all in your head and its part of wilding/sp. it probably wasnt a car. when i go to sleep with earplugs, it happens to me alot. for example I might hear someone shouting my name very loud, loud screeching like you said (that's usually the one that happens most),a loud drum beating, or voices. your not crazy, its normal for sp/wilding. like wakatadreamer said, it means you're closer to entering the dream. keep at it, and stay enthusiastic. don't fear it, embrace it.

Yeah that's right, just auditory hallucinations associated with Sleep Paralysis. The thing about auditory hallucinations is that they can range from a bunch of loud, inaudible noises to full-fledged conversations! So its very easy to become startled by all this; but you have to learn to try and ignore them when you're WILDing though. Once you keep practicing the WILD technique, you'll become more accustomed to the extremities of SP.

      Haha, sounds scary
I tried WILD yesterday evening, before sleeping.. However, never came past the body paralyzing and streaks of color and light part. After 10 minutes of that I just stopped.

You shouldnt have given up on it so early. You should give WILDs a little bit more than 10 minutes. And you shouls try doing them after about 5 hours of sleep (WBTB); they work a lot better that way.

Thanks, I will try that tomorrow (it's 1:31 AM here in the Netherlands, so a bit too late).

This is completely irrelevant, but my grandmother's from the Netherlands. lol
But yeah, Im sure you will get it, if not the first time then definitely the second time; remember to breath slowly and remain still no matter what.

thankyou all for the help, but i have another quesiton....you know that stage during WILDing where you feel like you REALLY need to move, what happens if you've tried WILDing for around say 1 hour and then theres this little pain that grows and grows until its unbareable. What do i do then? Its really fustrating having to wait that long and then have something like that happen aswell....

That wasn't an actual WILD. You just reached the Hypnagogic state, where visual and auditory hallucinations are the norm. The curious thing about Hypnagocic imagery is that it always come with the knowledge that you are dreaming. You automatically know what you are experiencing is not real.

The main difference between HI and lucid dreaming is that you don't have a dream body during HI. You aren't directly interacting with the dream. It becomes a regular dream (lucid or not) the moment you can shake loose a dream body and interact with the dream.

I hate when that happens. Usually you try to fall asleep before this starts to happen; but if or when it does, you have to try to ignore. You have to remember that its your body testing you to see if you're awake. Your body knows that you wouldnt react to this pain/comfortableness if you were unconscious, so you have to try and "forget" about it. Another thing that could be causing this is when parts of your body starts to fall asleep; so try to keep all parts of your body even in means of pressure (ex. dont lean on one side more than the other), b/c not doing *so could lead to nerve compression, which can be painful and/or uncomfortable.

      EDIT:*so

thanks WolfeDreamer, i think it might be nerve compression, it normally feels like my arm/hand/leg (it varies) is on fire after the tingling. Maybe it will help if i lie down on my back rather than on my side. When im usually sleeping on my side i automatically swap sides when it begins to hurt while im dreaming. But thats a little harder if im WILDing.

I had that too when I tried WILD. Felt like someone was pushing a needle further and further into my leg (heh). Was not very painful though, only reason I stopped because I had to go to the toilet So yeah, don't forget to visit the bathroom BEFORE you try to WILD.

      No problem.
And Idk if you guys are familiar w/ Clarity (the Queen and overall Master of WILDing); but she says, in her WILD guide, to ignore the pain/uncomfortableness; but sometimes the pain just seems to get unbearable.
And I also keep my arms by my side too

Yeah, I usually use the bathroom b/4 I go to sleep but I also drink a bottle of water or glass of milk so I will be forced to get up and not just roll over like the bum that I am. lol

I was wondering what that throbbing pain was in my wrist and hand when i was trying to WILD [after about 10 minutes of trying]. It felt as though my arm had its blood supply cut off but i wasn't leaning on it, as i was lying on my back . Odd feeling, i counldn't keep going because of the pain, i thought something was wrong...

Yeah, the pain from nerve compression will definitely cut a WILD attempt short. I cant tell you the number of times that Ive failed a WILD b/c of this.
So that's why I just try to keep every part of my body balanced and even; I lay on my back and keep my arms by my side, but even this doesnt work all the time.
