For the last few nights Ive been waking up 5 hours after I fall asleep to try and lucid dream, but I cannot "slip" into my dream state.
Are there any good techniques to do this???

Here is what I would do. Maybe you are not in REM yet. Try waking up an hour later if you can.
Do you remember what time your REM is? ( what time you wake up naturally before going in REM.. We all do but not all of us remember)
If yes, set you alarm for 15 minutes after that way you are more tired and you get hallucinations much faster and more vivid. This helps me though not sure if it works 100%.
As for slipping in the dream you should just kind of be in one.. It's hard to explain and I used to search for the answer every day. If you reach SP just wait it out and when you feel it pass do a reality check. I always forget to do one and think I failed when I was in a dream!
Clarification:
Set your alarm an hour later (maybe)
Don't move until your body is asleep
When SP episode is over do a reality check.
Ta-da!
This is what I do. There is no guarantee.
You're talking about WILDing, right?
Yeah, the transition phase is really difficult. I also have never been able to "slip" into the dream. But I noticed that after the vibrations are done, I'll either fall asleep or simply be laying in bed. Most of the time though when I'm laying in bed it's actually a false awakening, so I actually did go into the dream, just not the scene I preffered o.o
So if you find yourself waking up after the vibrations have stopped, definitely do a reality check, you may be in the dream after all :)
i never feel my head 'fall asleep', although i often get SP to the extent that i dont feel my body at all.
i once read on here that you feel your mind "blink". Sometimes i feel like that has happened whilst I've been in SP for quite a while & had vibrations and HI, so i tentatively open my eyes, just to see my bedroom EXACTLY how it should be, so i do a reality check and realise i'm still awake...but im never quite sure. so i try to roll over, and end up (after quite a bit of effort) physically rolling over and losing the SP.
