Um...don't they have drugs for that? That's always been my remedy when I can't go to bed. You can buy over the counter sleeping pills that will really put you out, but I don't know about long term remedies, or side effects.

Watch reality TV (not IDOL shows as they will wake you up with clubbing your head to make the pain go away) and you'll be asleep within 5 mins.

There are several legal and over the counter methods. I don't know anything about your lifestyle. I can tell you that Vitamins B-50 counter acts caffiene and alcohol related symptoms. Both use up B vitamins in the system. If I have had alcohol during th day and have trouble sleeping a B- 50 will get me to nighty night within an hour.
Melatonin is a natural substance the pineal gland normally produces. As we age apparently it produces less and less. In fact in later years it seems to tend to dry up and when they open it up in a dead person its common to find crystals they call "brain sand" in it.
You can get Melatonin in either liquid sublingual form at the health store, or tablet form at say Walmart or a grocery. If you take the tablet form, I have to take it like 3 hours before bed time, or it kicks in too late, like in the wee hours of the mornin when gping to bed say around 10. So take it ahead of time. Try not to drive after taking it.
Carbohydrates. Last resort if you have none of the above. Crackers, corn chips...non sugary carbs can get you there pretty quick like.
Really, Really last resort....about 2-3 hours before beddy bye, some real sugary stuff like frosted donuts will get the insulin to over compensate and put you into deep sleepytime..
Of course this is not for diabetics or others with insulin related problems. :dreaming:
Gluck!

This summer and into early fall, I suffered alot from being unable to get to sleep without great struggle. Reflecting inside myself, I saw this causing suffering and could not continue. This is good, you too have seen this. Seeing this, I was able to see the cause - horrible thoughts plaguing my mind preventing rest. Seeing the cause, and through insight and wisdom found in some books I've been reading, the path out of this suffering revealed itself. Rather than trying to push the terrible thoughts out of my mind, I embraced them. I opened my arms to them. Through embracing them; smiling at them, the conditions for them to arise were not longer present. Being so, they no longer manifest themselves so often. And when they do, I smile at them, and they subside. Through this insight and practicing mindful breathing when necessary, I no longer have much trouble getting to sleep and do not suffer so much because of it.
The power to overcome can also be found within yourself.

Thanks to all
Thank you to all of you who have responded
Insomnia is a pisser that i think everyone encounters at one point, some more then others :?
Again, i thank you all so much for your suggestions and i hope that this comes to the aid of others as well as it will to me.

P.S.
Legal sleep aides were going to be used as a last resort... but i guess in this case, in order to come to a final and permanent solution, i must get efficiant sleep for clarity of mind. Wish me luck :!:

Oh hell man, theres lots of ways to fix that.
1. Hit yourself in the head with a brick
2. Get Drunk
3. Sleep Aides, works especially well while drunk, may ease you into a nice "eternal" sleep
4. Jerk-off (some other topics say it works really well to both wake you up and put you to sleep)
5. Get off your ass and exercise a little.
6. Try eatin all that stuff with that stuff that makes you goto sleep, (can't remember the name, its in turkey, milk, and a few other things)
7. Avoid Caffeine and Chocolate
And If all else fails.. Pull out the secret weapon and attempt to watch
2001: A Space Odyssey!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(I don't know anyone who has sucessfully stayed awake that whole movie... Including myself)
