RC's fail in Dreams...help!

Hey,

So I had a dream today where I ended up looking at the sky and noticing 5 or 6 different moons. I remembered such things in past dreams and realized it must be a dream. So I tried to do the hold your nose and breathe RC and it failed... I couldn't breathe through my nose. So then I tried flying, and one other thing I don't remember, but it all failed.

Then I looked at a DC and said "Man, there's freaking 5 moons which leads me to believe this is all a dream, yet it feels like it's not!"

I also saw all these dark clouds in the sky, then a part of them started splitting up in a perfectly shaped square and light shone out, which is very unrealistic. Which made me do the nose RC one more time, and it still failed.

I woke up thinking "DAMNIT!"

Any ideas on why the RC's are failing and keeping me from LD'ing?

Hmmm, that's tough. Don't you hate when that happens? I can't tell you (with any confidence) a true reason why your RC's are failing, but I can give you some advice: try even MORE RC's next time. I know you tried more than one, but I'd say even try more than what you did in your dream.

I take it you Reality Check regularly throughout the day; when you do this, make sure you do MULTIPLE Reality Checks. This will greatly increase your chances in becoming lucid if one Reality Check fails. I'm sorry I couldn't help you further, but I hope I helped in some way. Good luck in your next dream my friend!

Although your reality checks were failing you still knew you were dreaming right? I've had this happen where I realize I'm dreaming, do a reality check and it fails BUT I just know I'm dreaming. BTW my surefire reality check is jumping. In my dreams I tend to go reaalllllyyyyy high when I jump. Maybe give it a shot!

The real key is to mentally reality check. Asking yourself "How did I get here?" and "Does everything make sense?" is actually what you're after. Physical RCs like the nose plug test just exist to reinforce that mental check.
