      My Dream Yoga Journey

      hello! I just started with Dream Yoga(eem, I started studying it a long time ago, but couldn't make the practices correctly)

      so today I started all the practices, but with a lot of intention, I want to tell you how is going along the days.
      My practice is a mix of the tutorial of billybob, and a mix of tibetan dream yoga..here is what I do, in a few words:

      1)awareness on surroundings, being observant
      2)aware and conscious of my breathing
      3)aware of my thoughts, doesn't let them drive me, don't daydream too much at a point of losing concentration
      4)aware of emotions and doesn't let them drive me.

      so, for today, I will work like this:

      _ = blank
      O = full

      that's mean how much I will work on each part

      1) _ _ _

      2) O O O

      3) O O _

      4) O _ _

      by the way, the only use of the practice 2) makes the others easier, I don't know why...

      because I will consider like if I am aware of my breathing, I am lucid, if not, I am not lucid, and I'm sure it will help me raise my awareness on dreams.

      so, let's see what happens!
      the practice is being applied all the day, it doesn't interfer with my habitual actions...

      ok

      thanks for reading

      bye!

      hey Mariano!

      these things are just the supportive practices for dream yoga -- the actual practice involves visualizations while you're falling asleep... are you doing that too? i'm interested to see how this works out for someone else since i'm working on sleep yoga (which is similar).

      hello!
      I simplified the practices into only two:
      1)breathing
      2)environment

      also, I'm registering the quantity of awareness I have on the days, being 100% aware almost all the time....
      yesterday I was in total 36% aware
      today 38%

      tomorrow I will try to get at least 50%

      =)

      Breathing = Aware of my breathing helps me calm my mind and thoughts, and not be driven by them, like emotions, emotions cause bad thoughts
      Environment = Aware of my environment means that I will observe things carefully, become more observant, and when I watch at objects, I will try like memorize them, taking mental photographys, and looking if something changes or not.

      What i want to know is how its possible to keep aware while watching TV or useing a computer, Because they should send you into a theta state.

      No not like WILDs. All of the processes are important.

      The exercises while falling asleep, keep your mind aware during the whole night. It gives you that extra chance of becoming conscious in your sleep.

      I've got a really good book on the subject, but I'm bad with books and have only bothered to read about half so far.

      ghost :

      I can be aware while doing these, I'm aware of my breathing..

      bushi:

      which book do you have? I think that the best book is Tibetan dream yoga of wangyal tenzin...
      Wilds follow the "basic" of sleep yoga, sleep yoga is the core

      arutad:

      at the end of the day I remember on what moments I was aware, so I make a almost precisely percentaje

      My actual problem is environment.
      To see all of it, I must stop, and start to register them on my mind....
      but, how can I do that all the time if I am doing another thing?
      also, making a mental map of every object in the room, is that possible?
      or, what means to be aware of the environment?

      ok, I will update.
      I didn't have any results yet...but because my focus wasn't at a 100%...
      the only thing, is that I think yesterday I had a vivid dream, not too much(it was a nightmare =P)
      and I said, "this is a dream, but if this is a dream, what is my brother doing here?, if he is here, then this is not a dream" !!
      very weird.

      my definitive practice is like this:

      Breathing = I always focus on my breath, to stay in the now, and to prevent senseless thoughts

      Environment = every time I enter into a room, I scan it(I observe everything very carefully), the scan lasts 10-30 seconds, if I must do it fast, then 3 seconds.
      if I am in a room for too much time, then every 5-15 minutes I scan it again.
      when I am walking around ( generally outside ) then I observe my surroundings carefully, not in a fully scan.

      the only difference is that I feel more aware at least on Real Life, I start to note new things, remember more things...is fun.

      here is the chart of progress:

      the percentaje equals to the time I'm aware, 100% means that I was aware ALL(absolutely) the day...

      day-awareness on environment-awareness on breathing-total

      1=30%42%=36%
      2=15%60%=38%
      3=5%35%=20%
      4=15%35%=25%
      5=51%90%=70%
      6=80%93%=87%
      7=43%43%=43%

      today I aiming for 90%97%

      ok, BYE!

      now what are the seven percentages?

      also, i've found that being aware of your footsteps when walking is helpful - there is such a thing as walking meditation.

      do you say to yourself during the day, "this is a dream... i'm pouring dream juice into my dream cup with my dream body etc. etc." ? that can make you lucid too.

      not exactly, of what I read from the book and from Never's experience, the main point is to bring the mind to the present moment.
      before, like 2 months ago, I tryied to do the practice, but in another way, that didn't like, this practice was directly from the book of the rinpoche....the only thing that kept happening is that when I often hear my breath, my mind automatically says "this is a dream", so that's help me to remember that I must be aware, on all aspects.
      the seven porcentajes? don't understand them?
      they explain the quantity of awareness I have done on this days, for example, on day 1, I was 40% aware of my breathing....etc...

      anyways, I was going to update with something:

      since my dream yoga practice ends 5 minutes before I go to sleep, I was thinking, ¿why not to be "on the present moment", "aware of my breathing" , every time I go to sleep?
      it would be like meditation.
      so when I go to sleep, I will do that, I will be aware of my breathing(this means that I will be in the present moment and I won't let any senseless thought drive me, or make me daydream, I MEAN, EXACTLY LIKE IN DAY), until I fall asleep(aware or not)

      this will help me to make more advances on concentration and awareness =)

      ok, that's it

      bye!

      Hi there. I'm also on a Dream Yoga journey - nice to see some fellow travellers
      I think that it is very important to do the night-practices (like mentioned) It helps you to sleep more lightly - and thereby it is easier to attain lucidity during your dreams - Being aware in the daytime is of course important, and I believe "watching your breathing" and clearing your mind is the key - all that stuff about scanning the room for things is not neccessary - it will only make your mind wander as fast as a horse can run. Attaining "Rigpa" is having a clear mind and being present in the moment - the only thing on your mind should be a "This is all a dream" whispering in the back of your head keeping all other thoughts away. (like a mantra)
      Not an easy task and I must admit that I was more succesful with the western approach, but it is all a question of time and dedication before I will reap the benefits of dreamyoga (lucid EVERY night!)

      i agree with TJuulsgaard. keeping track of percentages is a bit of a distraction from the main point of this. mindfulness can be a very simple thing... i think instead of trying to block negative thoughts you should work with them and learn to neither accept nor reject them, rather, let them dissolve into space. and saying "this is a dream" can't be an empty phrase - every time you repeat it you should increase your presence and act with the kind of awareness you want to have when asleep and dreaming.

      I don't think so, it helps me, I can detect things faster, and I feel more aware.
      and no, It doesn't make my mind wander

      really want to know how are you going with it =)

      keeping track of percentages is a bit of a distraction from the main point of this. mindfulness can be a very simple thing...
      having percentajes motivates me to be more aware....and to know how good I am doing

      i think instead of trying to block negative thoughts you should work with them and learn to neither accept nor reject them, rather, let them dissolve into space.
      yeah, I do something like that, every negative thought dissapear when I am aware...

      and saying "this is a dream" can't be an empty phrase - every time you repeat it you should increase your presence and act with the kind of awareness you want to have when asleep and dreaming.
      ooh yes, it does, every time I say it I remember to be more aware....

      so, I will start the night practice too

      This is the first time I've ever heard about dream yoga -- and I'm a long-time yoga practitioner! Two of my favourite things brought together... I can't wait to learn more about it.

      Thanks for sharing -- I look forward to learning more about your journey.

      Kundalini yoga, mostly -- admittedly at a very low level. Mostly I just practice by myself at home as opposed to under the guidance of a qualified teacher. I used to be really into it -- did it for a couple hours every single day.

      Now I consider myself lucky if I do it one hour a couple of times a week, but I'm determined to bring that up to at least 5 times a week in order to help with my lucid dreaming.

      I'm definitely going to request a book on tibetan dream yoga at my local library and check it out. Thanks again for the tip!

      yes, they say it's best to practice with a teacher, but not everybody can go there and be teached(tibet?)
      they say kundalini it's a bit dangerous if not practiced right, do you know why?
      tell me how are you going with this practice, if you need help,feel free to ask!

      cygnus, why did you say that??

      I will update a bit more.
      I don't have any LD at the moment, but it's ok. I still can't do the night practice, I can't visualize right...

      this is my final schedule for doing dream yoga:

      Dream Yoga = Always aware of Breathing, Being In the Now,Feeling The Body As A Whole

      Meditation = Perfect for concentration, also helps for LD,do it before bed, and after every night waking ...

      Reality Check = just...do it

      Night Practice Of Dream Yoga = Helps a lot in general, also on awareness....! when doing it, also add "I'm dreaming" and really believe what you are saying

      Dream Journal = it's important...

      that's all

      bye!
