Any tips for keeping the mind awake(WILD)

I'm still trying to attempt this WILD and no luck so far, but I have to admit that I have not been trying it a lot either. I just tried last night and in an attempt to not fall asleep as easily I slept in an uncomfortable position. Sleeping on my back straight. I of course feel asleep, but I did have a Lucid dream that night (a very useful one actually). That night I tried the best I could in keeping my mind clear to if that helps. Then my alarm clock woke me up at 4:50 and surprisingly i was still aid out on my back and I was going to try to wild again, but I felt absolutely horrible and dead! I went to sleep in a much more comfortable position and went back to bed.

Are there any tips to keeping the mind awake or any solution to my problem. I'll try to do WILD again tonight

i have few questions regarding wild...

      A) Does WILD has anything to do with meditation? do they use same pathways?

      B) what do you need to do to induce it?

      C) I read that wild can occur as flashes and as a full blown dream... is it true?

Sorry for my n00bishness in this field...

I can sometimes induce a WILD dream trough meditation, so at any point I want. You can WILD at any point really, you dont nessarily need 6 hrs of sleep but then, you need great meditation skills. Somebody with advanced med skills will be able to do it much easier.
You dont need anything to induce it.. meditation skills would be nice..visualisation skills would be nice. Zazen skills would be nice..
I use the flame lotus for visualisation but its not nessasary.
Sometimes I use black/white dot tibetian techniques.

The position you lay in doesnt really matter , though a sitting/half lotus postion is best you require yet great med skills to do so in that position..

To keep your mind busy, i just recommend visualisation..like the flame in the troat..or guide yourself in your mind eye..see yourself in a dream location..or focus on your third eye and slowly keep telling yourself you will soon be leaving your body and projecting into the astral, if you dont believe in the astral, just tell yourself your going into a dream. ^_^

Can you explain to me what the Flame lotus for visualization is or what the flame in the troat?

I tried doing WILD again, but failed again. At first I do that 1 I'm dreaming, 2 I'm dreaming etc., but I feel that if I do that then I'll never go to sleep. So i stopped and just visualize myself somewhere(usually my school and I end up having a dream later on about my school, but not WILD)). Also I can't visualize my dream location and doing the 1 I'm dreaming, 2 I'm dreaming at the same time. Hard to do for me unless I have myself in the dreaim saying it. I can't even get to the part where i see the hypnogagic(sp?) images or at least I don't remember it. Should I just visualize myself in a location saying 1 im dreaming, 2 im dreaming?

i asked someone this question a few months ago, and i think it was Lucius, he always has some good advice

in your mind, to keep it active before falling asleep, in your mind, visualize yourself driving a car, and concentrate hard, maybe Lucius can expand?

i agree with nightowl, and probably just about everybody on this board... i wanna try WILD, and attempt it, but it sometimes kinda works, but never really works well. also, ive read everything the internet has to say about it. so, if anyone (lucius) has any advice, it would be most helpful!

Whats the problem, is it not being able to fall asleep, or is it that you go out to fast?

A heck im just giving one big advice..(I was gonna give one for to fast and one for who cant fall asleep)

Keep talking to yourself in your mind for starters. But dont overflow yourself like for instance with the crazy 1 im dreaming, 2 im dreaming,3 im dreaming etc. Thats crap. You have to make sure you actually KNOW what you are thinking. Letting all your thoughts flow isnt good either because you wil start thinking random things and eventually you either go out cold or go like *snap damn i gotta keep thinking straight* and you start all over again.. you have to relax and closely monitor your mind.
Slowly talk to yourself and once again know what you are saying, the best would be doing some MILDS but stuff like "I am going into a dream in a moment".. "simply relax, its all going well" .. "Just let it all go.." ..
This is useful for beginners, the talking to yourself, comfort yourself its all going to be ok, you could also picture a loved or trusted one talking to you comforting you with his/her voice. This way you are being even more passive, but your mind wont wonder of. (later on this all isnt nessasary anymore)

Now relaxation exersises are useful, just relax all parts of your body one by one, the better you get it at the easier it will go. Tell yourself your body is getting weak, heavy and warm. But your mind is getting more aware and powerful. Picture energy from your body going to your mind, empowering your mind and astral body. Its not nessasary to lie on your back, you can do it all positions, just be comfertable.

Visualisation is good if you cant bring up the hypnotic imagery. I use the flame lotus but frankly, you can use anything. You can picture a book floating in front of you, or a basketball, or dollar bill. Doesnt matter, the flame lotus is just good because it is very detailed, the more detail something has the better(a flame and a flower have lots of detail) , but also the harder. You can also picture yourself walking around somewhere, or even better driving a car. Feel your hands on the wheel, hear the car roar, see the road pass by. That might work aswell(I dont do it but it might work)
This is usefull with MILDs, picture yourself in your previous non lucid dream and picture yourself spotting a dream sign and becoming lucid, then do some imagery with the dream. (flying works good, watch the clouds pass by, or space.) What might work extremely well is invoking a falling sensation..people seem to have succes with that. Imagine yourself falling down a endless black nothing. But the downside is you will probally end up falling downwhere in a dream or in the void(limbo land) and without any experience that might result in something not so usefull.

I am kinda short on time so if you have any more questions..Im not 100% if this is all so good..i use flame lotus+MILD sometimes and it works for me boom but i think all the above is useful.

I told you he had some useful, and practical things to say!

Do you think I should adhere to that pressing new frontier?
And leave in my wake a trip of fear? Or should I hold my head up high
And throw a wrench in spokes by, leaving the air behind me clear?

Mostly its just a matter of trying and finding your own way of doing things. Other peoples advice can be useful indeed, but everybody should be able to do it without to much effort with the right amount of practise. I think..

Well I just try to help out and teach the things I know to people. Im not extraordinary wise, intelligent or gifted. I simply view certain things from another point of view most people do, and open myself up for certain things. Thats concerning the things I tell you on AIM for instance.

My advice about practical things such as WILD are simply because Im somewhat experienced with it, so its only logic I can give some tips.
Im not really that special..when it comes to such things.

Each and everybody can learn to become very skilled at both LDing and other spiritual, super natural, occult whatever things. Its just that some people are just more motivated, passionate or sacrificing about it.

But i'd rather be kind and gentle then intelligent and wise..

Brah, I hate being seriousssssss, lol , though it is nessasary so much! Thats why I love the astral! I can be myself!

You know, in order to truely become good at this you need to be driven, you need to have a greater goal, that is really important. That what drives you gives you more will power...will power is the greatest weapon there is out there, will power flows from things such love and hope.
Find what truely drives you! Find your ultimate reason for doing this..find out your truth. ^_^ enough being serious for now lalaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

Wow, thank you a lot! Ill try again tonight using your advice.

I guess what my problem is that It takes me about 15-30 to go to bed and once I hit that mark I fall unconcious way to fast. Almost as if I blacked out

Last night night I tried doing that 1 im dreaming 2 im dreaming crap(I didnt read your post then) and when I got into the high 20's possibly low 30's, I COMPLETELY feel asleep suddenly. I can't even remember anything after like the 27th im dreaming shit. I very rarely see hypnogagic images to.

I'll apply your adivce tonight. Thank you so much
